CD Projekt Red promised fans of its most recent release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, that the game would have 16 separate free DLC downloads eventually. They're very close to fulfilling that promise as they've
just announced what their sixteenth and last DLC is. While most of the content has been fairly light (a new costume, ooooo), their last offering is something of use, provided you completed the game or are close to doing so: A New Game Plus.
The New Game Plus is something every video game that has an ending should include. It's usually defined as the ability to restart the game over again, but retain all the experience and items you gathered throughout the game. Since this can make a second playthrough extremely easy, there are sometimes extra challenges planted along the way that only somebody with a New Game Plus could reach.
Chrono Trigger started the trend as we know it in 1995, but few games have followed it. Now The Witcher 3 has one, yet it's oddly separate from the main game. But it's free!
Even though you may have reached the New Game Plus, you might not have reached the end of the game. Projekt Red has plans for more Witcher 3 DLC, the paying kind. Two more expansions will add thirty hours of new content to the game, they say, starting with the release of
Hearts of Stone in October. The second paid DLC will be called
Blood and Wine and will come out within the first three months of 2016.
