*Plot*
The Empire has fallen, but the outcome of the fall wasn't what any wanted. The last remaining super powers of Tamriel fought one last devastating war, a war from which Tamriel would never recover. The very terrain itself shook from the battle cries, the magic, and the swords of warriors and mages. The deceased would be reincarnated by necromancers and biological warfare and treachery would reign down on the kings, queens, and peasants. There were no laws in this era of bloodshed and death.
Years later, after the Last War, peasants are being controlled by their Kings. Cyrodill's once-great cities are being stripped for their wood and stone, and used to build palaces for kings and queens and meager huts for the peasants. This is the era you are born in, the era of religious politics, book burnings, and the constant fear of your village being burned to the ground by the king's "noble" knights.
Restrictions:
You can belong to only one major guild.
This RP is taking place in Cyrodiil, but your character can be raised in another province, so long as they make it to Cyrodiil.
The State of the Cities:
Anvil- The city, after the Last War, returned to its previous pirating ways. Its chapel was destroyed, its castle looted, and the stone houses eventually collapsed due to wear-and-tear. All that remains is a castle inhabited by a pirate king and huts occupied by the king's minions. The Redguard king's name is Avik and he controls his lessors with an ebony fist.
Kvatch- Kvatch was destroyed and the only thing that remains in its wake is a small town. The town is constantly harassed by Anvil's marauders and pirates for taxes and women. The men are constantly in fear of their town being destroyed and their wives and daughters being taken away and violated. The women are constantly in fear of their men and sons being slaughtered or enslaved. The only thing keeping the town afloat at all is the Chapel. The Chapel attracts pilgrims and caravans from all across Cyrodiil and even, at times, beyond. However, despite all the hard times Kvatch has fallen on, there is rumor that a young monarch is planning to turn things around for Kvatch.
Skingrad- Home to the Fighter's Guild, Skingrad, is a heavily barricaded city full of fighters. The whole city is a guild hall and the mercenaries will only let recruits, landowners, kings, and bards into the city. They ignore Kvatch's please for help and have even, at times, aided the pirates if offered enough coin. The city is ruled by a tribunal formed of a Nord, Hjar; an Orc, Mulush; and a Khajiit, Do'Amder.
Chorrol- Another power-city of its time, Chorrol is in constant conflict with the pirates of Anvil and the Landowners of Bruma. As such, it has evolved its combat and is home to some of the finest smiths, merchants, and warriors excluding Skingrad. The Fighters of Skingrad will often buy homes in Chorrol when they retire. However, not only is it constantly threatened, there is more that would make someone second guess living here. The city hates magic and will try and hunt down the colleges of the mages. They have found many of the colleges but, oddly enough, the one college to the north of them has remained untouched by the warriors. The king's name is Crito, a ferocious warrior and a tactful general.
Bruma- Bruma was home to one of the first major Bard's College in Cyrodiil, and the city prospered from this. However, after the College split up to better handle the new laws, or in this case lack of laws, the cities' economy crashed. Many of the men and women that lived in the city grew tired of the lack of money and protection being offered to them. Quite a few took off to the various mountains and forest that surround the city, taking with them as much as they could carry. Years later, the city would disappear completely. The cities' wood was harvested by the men and mer for their new towns. These towns would eventually come into the possession of rich landowners, knowing that they could use the village people for cheap manual labor.
Cheydinhall- The city was destroyed by a large force of peasants in an attempt to destroy the Dark Brotherhood within. Much to their dismay, however, the only thing they couldn't destroy was the Dark Brotherhood's lair, Cheydinhall's walls, and a good number of houses. The city was then inhabited by the villagers that began to build huts within the city walls. The remaining stone houses were bought by the rich and the Dark Brotherhood was soon forgotten. Instead, the townspeople spent their time worshiping at the Chapel and the wealthy spent their time enjoying lives delicacies. One of these delicacies is the Bard's College of Cheydinhall. The Bard's College in Cheydinhall is the largest in all of Cyrodiil and the most exclusive.
Bravil & Leyawiin- Bravil and Leyawiin were taken back by Elsweyr. The province, seeing that the Empire was almost utterly destroyed, launched an invasion and successfully captured the two cities and their surrounding land as soon as the Last War began. The cities now have few men or mer and are primarily inhabited by Khajiiti and Argonians. (These two cities will not be used in this RP due to them being too hostile).
Imperial City- The Imperial City was completely and utterly destroyed before, during, and after, the Last War. Everything, even the huts in the Waterfront, were looted by bandits, thieves, and the various super powers that once ruled Tamriel. The Thieves Guild has taken it upon themselves to set up a black market in the cities' abandoned sewers. They will often keep peasants away by spreading rumors of marauders and monsters that supposedly live in the sewers.
The State of the Powers:
The North- Owned by five very wealthy landowners that rule several, separate villages. They are: an Altmer by the name of Ancotar, a Breton by the name Astien, an Imperial by the name of Adrian, another Imperial by the name of Castus, and another Breton by the name of Ambroise.
Anvil- One of the few powers that remain in Cyrodiil. The king, Avik, rules much of western Cyrodiil and much of the ocean. They will take what they want which, much to the dismay of the citizens of Cyrodiil, is more often than not women, gold, and slaves. Anvil's borders end at Chorral and Skingrad.
Skingrad- Though its main purpose is to house the Fighter's Guild, it is a force to be reckoned with. The fighters of the Fighter's Guild are some of the most well trained men in all of Cyrodiil and yet never try to expand their borders past their city walls. The city is ruled by a tribunal formed of a Nord, Hjar; an Orc, Mulush; and a Khajiit, Do'Amder.
The Eastern half of Cyrodiil- Largely untamed except for Cheydinhall. South of Cheydinhall lies the dangerous marshes that have claimed countless lives and are often rumored to be impossible to navigate unless you're an Argonian.
Cheydinhall- Largely believed to be the new Imperial City, Cheydinhall is the richest and most luxurious city in all of Cyrodiil. It has everything someone would want in a city: a well funded Bard's College, an assassin's guild willing to kill anyone, a well built and fully functional chapel, and a flourishing economy. Of course it also has: muddied water, constantly threatened and attacked by raiders, homeless beggars, weakened walls, and disease galore. The king, Antonius, is a fair man but loves luxury. He believes he is entitled to wealth in all of its forms.
Chorrol- The second greatest city of its time, Chorrol is constantly threatened by nearly all of its neighbors nearly all of the time. Its walls are crumbling, its chapel is made of cracked stone, and yet the city has some of the best smiths in all of Cyrodiil. The king, Crito, is a desperate man trying to keep an old city alive in a time when everything wants inside the walls. His hair is solid white due to the amount of difficulty and effort it takes into keeping Chorrol and its inhabitants safe. However, he has a grudge against the mages for unknown reasons.
The State of the Guilds:
The Mages Guild- the Cyrodiil splinter organizations (Synod and all that) was unprepared for the fall of the Empire and they fell with it, but the College of Winterhold managed to plant multiple, small schools for magic throughout Cyrodiil. Of course, they are always prejudiced against and have even suffered attacks by raiders. The only reason they manage to stay alive at all are the rich landowners. The landowners see magic as a useful tool for them to use but don't want anyone else to have it so they will often kill those that try to teach magic to the poor. Their largest and most useful college lies hidden in a mountain in the Colovian Highlands
The Thieves Guild- They're having the time of their life, they are at their most powerful state they've ever been in. Their headquarters is in the Imperial City Sewers.
The Dark Brotherhood- They were used many times during the Last War, and have remained a valuable asset to the rich. Due to the Morag Tong only being available in Morrowind, the Dark Brotherhood soon grew in enough power to launch a full on, behind the scenes, war with the Morag Tong, successfully wiping the organization out. Only a handful of members managed to escape the Dark Brotherhood's wrath. The Dark Brotherhood's headquarter is in Cheydinhall.
The Bard's College- They aren't allowed to delve in to history anymore but they are still allowed to practice music and entertainment and will often be hired by kings for centuries at a time. The Bard's College has managed to expand southward to Cyrodiil, its goal is to secretly store Tamriel's history and literacy, and so they've hidden books of knowledge in their various schools. Their headquarters is in Cheydinhall.
The Fighter's Guild- They were so often employed as mercenaries during the Last War that they've changed their motives entirely, they are now considered the Knights of the Kings by the peasants. They're employed when Civil Wars get out of hand or when the landowners want to remind the peasants whose in charge. The Fighter's Guild have their city of Skingrad.
