Hi, first let me apologise if I'm posting this is the wrong section.

Anyways onto the matter at hand, my enchanting level is currently at 38, I've been doing the good old 'Enchant banish onto iron daggers trick' bare in mind I have the 1.5 patch so my smithing doesn't rise so quickly (28) ..

Basically I wanna know if I'm doing this right, I buy all the petty/lesser filled soul gems from the Mage dude in Dragons Reach, wait for 2 days and buy yet again, then goto the Enchantment stone and enchant my daggers with Banish and then sell them back to store for profit...

I have the black star but I don't see how that would be a better idea, cause after every enchant of have to leave and go refill correct? So the process would be very very very slow! Or am I missing something.

You're doing it right. As you said, the black star would be very tedious for leveling enchanting, it's only benefits are that it doesn't break when used, and can hold human souls. Mine is an ornament in my house :p

The way the Black Star is good for levelling enchanting is with a weapon requiring a charge. You can strike something down with an Iron Sword of Embers, then the Black Star captures it's soul. Then you immediately charge your Iron Sword of Embers back to full, kill something else, capture soul, recharge immediately, etc.

This is how I did it, I went to the College of Winterhold, went around the whole building and found lots of soul gems. As XbSuper and Streets said I used the Black Star and just enchanted anything I saw......

Ah I see it's only really good for when the weapons enchantment needs recharging, is that way quicker than enchanting items with banish or not?

From what I understand, the charge needed by the weapon is of no consequence. What matters is the charge that the soul gem can potentially provide. So for instance if your weapon is just slightly discharged and you recharge it with, say a grand soul, then the enchanting will be increased in proportion to the grand soul being used and not in proportion to the actual charge used up by the weapon.

That just about sums it up if I am right :)

The UESP Skyrim:Enchanting - UESPWiki says enchanting items gives biggest overall skill increase. Disenchanting new items gives better increases for more valuable enchantments, but only takes you so far. Recharging weapons gives small to moderate increase. It says the fastest way after you have disenchanted all/most of the enchantments, is to enchant new things with valuable enchantments, and you already have banish, the best one. Take a nap in your bed for rested or well rested bonus, and activate the Mage Stone to make it go quicker.

yeah thats correct. i dont understand why you think its going slow though. enchanting levels so fast compared to smithing and alchemy it isnt even funny. actually, upon a second read i guess i might understand why. you first off should get soul trap. second off, forget stupid little farengar. what you want to do is go to the college of winterhold, specifically, the hall of countenance. in there, at the right time of day, there will be 4 merchants who all sell soul gems. buy all filled cheap gems, AS WELL AS empty ones. do your enchanting with the filled ones then head out into the tundra. most animals have petty or lesser souls, which is perfect. just run around soul trapping deer, foxes, wolves, whatever. don't pay any mind to whether the soul is lesser or petty, it doesn't matter at all. the merchants tend to have more empty than full so this will give you a TON of gems to work with. oh, and i forgot to mention, the enchanting table at the college has two display cases with soul gems in them that are free to take. some of the mages have filled and empty soul gems in their rooms as well, if you're okay with stealing.

also, you should to the college's questline. you will find dozens of gems, a lot of which are filled, during just the first few quests.

good luck man, but be warned, the extra effect perk makes all but mages pretty overpowered. the first time i got the perk i was playing a heavy armor spellsword. not half an hour after enchanting the crap out of all my stuff i quit because my sword was doing 200 damage from enchantments plus another 75 of frost/shock. my health was twice what it was, same with magicka. it just stopped being fun for me. on the other hand, with a pure mage i LOVED it. what it does is basically allow you to wear whatever type of outfit you want, since you can enchant almost to the level the pre-enchanted mage robes are. this freedom is really nice since it's fun to get to wear the evil looking black mage robes without basically being screwed on spell cost and regen.
