Does anybody else feel like the main quest was the worst part of the game? It was really disappointing for me because even though the main quest is only ~20 hrs or so long it was the thing i was most excited for in this game.

Things i disliked about the main questline:

-Feeling of being a "special" character with a destiny to destroy Alduin, i would much rather have been a normal person who perhaps became a master of the voice another way and decided to stand against alduin.

-Annoying random dragons. Sucks when im on my way to a quest, still far away from the area then BOOM get attacked by an dragon who kills my horse and leaves me stranded and over encumbered from looting the bones and scales.

-The lack of urgency against the dragon menace, for the greatest threat to the whole living and undead world alduin sure didn't do much in the 256 in-game days played by my character before the main story was finished. Maybe if i was being attacked by mobs of 4-5 dragons at a time or by ultra powerful resurrected dragons i would have had more of an interest in actually doing the main quest.

-Easy final boss, yes alduin was too easy, maybe it was because i was level 50 by the time i fought him and maybe i was only on expert, but i was expecting the "world eater" to dent my Armour a little.

-The ending was such an anticlimax, i actually stood on the throat of the world for 5 minutes waiting for one of the flying dragons to initiate another conversation because i couldn't actually believe i had finished the story.

-The strange way nobody knows who i am even after i saved all of skyrim from alduin. Apart from the occasional guard there was no big celebration of the victory which left me slightly dissapointed.

The main quest isnt bad by any means but i felt like it was the worst part of the game.

Anybody else agree with me/feel this way?

Uh you pretty much are Special in Oblivion.. Also they even said that so i don't why you get even get mad at that.

I am pretty sure that The game is all about Dragons too...

I agree all he did was get Dragons alive again

Agree with that... Aludin was the boss and he should have been harder, Like they are doing with the legendary dragons..

    Lol.

    Spoiler

The People in Savangarde will always remember. I hope

I have met a few boring quests. But it def it not the Worst Part of Skyrim.

Becoming a "master of the voice" another way would mean spending eighty years in silent meditation in High Hrothgar, contemplating the teachings of Jurgen Windcaller and taking a vow of nonviolence.

That doesn't sound like a very fun quest.

Fighting Alduin, and the entire last part of the main quest, was very anti-climatic, I agree.

The player will always be special in Elder Scroll games. Because they are the working hand of the Gods. Particularly since Morrowind. The player starts as a prisoner. Either being released or finding their way out through the passing of events. But nobody really knows WHY you're there. In fact in Oblivion you wake up in a cell NOBODY is EVER supposed to be placed in. Because it's the Emperor's escape route. The cell is just for show. While they never say it directly, the lore writers of the Elder Scrolls are saying that the Gods themselves have directly chosen and placed a singularly special individual to be their hand in the world. Not all players choose to acknowledge this. Hell, half the time when Hadvar or Ralof say "It's probably best if we split up" I say "I agree" and wander off. Never giving Farengar the dragonstone is a terrific way to NEVER have dragons but still have access to Whiterun. When the option to say "You mean this stone?" pops up I just exit the conversation and walk away. Not conversing the Farengar ever again is a blessing more than an inconvenience.

My point is if you play the main story in any Elder Scroll you have to wrap your mind around the fact that you ARE special. You are the avatar of the will of the Divines. Hence your spectacular destiny and particularly gifted abilities. Not to mention your ability to pack up to 600 pounds on your person without ever once purchasing a BACKPACK.

Would it kill Bethesda to give me at least the option to display a damn rucksack?

    It was anticlimactic, I agree.
Otherwise, it wasn't a bad story though.

Imo, the Dark Brotherhood quest line is the most interesting.

I agree, it is just so boring that I don't want to play it again. Ever. I hate all those parts when you have to spend time with those boring Greybeards... Luckily game has many good sidequests so that doesn't matter. No one can force you to play that main quest. : D

I'm hoping that next Elder Scrolls game would have interesting and fun main quest.

It was a ton better than Oblivion's main quest though.
I didn't get s**t when working for Martin. First he makes me give up a hard-earned Daedric Artifact, then he makes me go through some huge dungeon to get Tiber Septim's armor.
And what do I get for it? Another f**king quest!

So I joined the Dark Brotherhood, because they give some good rewards for my hard work.

At least in Skyrim you get kick@$$ dragon shouts. FUS RO DAAAAAH!!!!!!

I found it far more interesting than some of the other quest lines: at least there is a variety of things to do. I agree Alduin was too easy. Maybe he should level up more aggressively.

Like many people, I agree that Alduin was really easy. what really bothered me was that Alduin, the World-Eater, pretty much the strongest dragon there is in the game, not only hits like a little girl, but he barely shouts as well. I was expecting him to use a ton of shouts against me, maybe slowing down time and using other shouts to rip me to shreds, but no, he sits there and tries to bite you.
Heck, my Orc warrior killed him in three hits. Now THAT'S disappointing.

Also, a quick side note, one thing I really love about the Elder Scrolls game is how fun and interesting the Dark Brotherhood is. Both in terms of lore and in terms of gameplay, they pretty much have the most fun quests in the game.

It wasn't bad. Companions was worse. In my list of my favorite questlines, it comes in fourth. Thieves Guild was the best questline in my opinion.

I Disagree. The Companions was one of my favorite, Being a nobody, Slowly climbing the ranks, traveling with them, Becoming a Werewolf, Being the leader, Being able to train when getting no money lost, taking stuff that you werent able too before. (Well you wont get in trouble if people see you)

Ah come on guys...you join the:- Thieves guild:- you're the chosen one
Mage Guild:- accidentally the chosen one
DB: Very much the chosen one
Companions: Really who cares (a horrible quest line)
    etc, etc

Virtually everything you touch (not just in Skyrim, but in all Elder Scrolls games) results in you being the `chosen one` (maybe a few new scriptwriters needed....;) )

How can you NOT feel special :)

I agree with Alduin being anti-climatic, but I think it's for the same reason that every other enemy is easy to defeat - artificial intelligence. Like or hate everything else, it's harder to NOT become OP'd simply because of the fact nothing in this game has a good AI for fighting (I don't even mean just for an enemy to know when to run/hide, but I mean how, where, when to strike and alternative fighting methods), just like Bethesda's other games.

Otherwise, I agree with the others - these games are always about being that "special person that saves the world from another day of doom..."

As far as the big quests go, I'd rank them:
    1. Dark Brotherhood
    2. Thieves Guild
    3. Civil War
    4. College of Winterhold
    5. Main Quest
    6. Companions

I had more trouble fighting bears than I did Alduin.

The final showdown with Alduin could have been so much better, think about it. You find Sovngarde a smoldering, barren wasteland. Smoke still rising from dimming fires, the charred husks of bodies strewn everywhere. Alduin sits upon the Hall of Valor's summit, what was once a gathering of eternal song and drink now a destroyed and broken building.

But now you fight him in a field right outside.

Why are people acting like the Civil War was even good? Literally it was so frustrating how little effort went into it. Identical on both sides and just such a lazy story.

I don't think it was very good, but I enjoyed killing Ulfric so much I had to have it kind of high.

I did the main quest with my first Character. i found it ok.

But then I did the faction quests. Thieves guild is the best for me, followed by Dark Brotherhood.

College and Civil War were interesting but not my favorite.

The Companions, the idea behind it is nice, but the way the quest line develops doesn't bring much to the table in my point of view.

Now with my other character, I rarely even touch the main quest before level 50...
