Maces are stronger...but if you value speed i would say axes since they strike faster.

I was wondering about the armor penetration making up for lack of speed, anyone know how useful bleeding damage is btw thanks Arthur

I like Hack&Slash, but I stack it with other DoT effects like Fire, and Frostbite venom/Lingering poison. If you can land Critical Charges, then you can keep running, while they bleed/burn out. With those 3 perks, Axes approach the DPS of Swords. Bonebreaker doesn't make that much difference. I like Axe, and Sword, because they both strike at the same speed, and you can add a Crit to some strikes. For me, that's optimal, but dual Axes isn't bad either. With Dual Flurry/Savagery, and Elemental Fury, you don't even Need to enchant them.

If only you could launch someone's head off their shoulders would Mace be significantly better. I don't mean chop, I mean LAUNCH, like hit a Thalmor's head over the wall of Northwatch Keep! Seems silly that the mace beheading would be the same as axe/sword, doesn't it?

Honestly, I don't mind either weapon.

When you put it that way I think I will crush the bones of my enemies even with the beheading problem

For some reason I can not picture an Orc berserker armed with anything other than two war axes.

If you put the Rusty mace in a chest before you finish the quest you can retrieve it after you've been awarded The Mace of Molag Bal. I haven't tried it myself yet to see if it works.

You know, you have 2 hands right? You could have one of each in both hands...

Neither hack and slash nor bone breaker are very good. So don't let those perks factor into your decision too much. Axes swing faster than maces but aren't as powerful as maces. And if that's not enough to sway you either, haha just go for cosmetics.
I like maces when I'm going for a barbarian vibe, I think there's something inherently more brutal about smashing someone's skull in with a blunt object rather than using an edged weapon.

Don't waste any perk points in armor penetration. Think about it for a second. How many enemies actually wear armor and of those how many wear good armor?

Just play the game and see what you like. I prefer axes.

I love the mace and how it crashes into enemies with boatloads of force.

Dual axes. Fast, efficient, looks better. And from what I witnessed in the past is the extra bleeding damage in similar to a poison or burning effect. Not much damage but something that is continuos while ur attacking. I haVe to admit all the axes in the game look pretty awesome too.... While the maces... Ehhhh.... Even the dragon bone mace looks like poo... And that's all I use right now...

Axes, that's route I'd go if I were you. I've never been a fan of blunt weapons myself. Typically I never duel wield either as I tend to favor either an axe/sword and shield, or a Great Sword.

Maces should burst skulls like popped pimples, a mace beheading someone is just silly. I'd love it if maces splattered skull shards and chunks of brain matter all over the place, but they don't. So I generally don't use them on my melee characters.

Axes for an orc just seem thematically correct to me. You're berserk, you're flailing around like a madman. You should have an axe. Axes and Orcs go together like peas and carrots. Which orcs also like, I believe.

Axes for your orc would be best, because it fits better and the concept of maces being dual wielded is weird.

Actually, it's peas and honey. Why peas and honey? It keeps them from rolling off the knife.

Keeps them from rolling off the axe, you mean. Orcs eat with axes, too.
