Call it a guide, call it a rant.

This is not about role playing your in-game character. This is in reference to the story Roleplay area of these forums.
But this is my opinion on what makes a good role play and how I play/write my character.

    Relax... and be patient.
All the stories here will suffer from one of these maladies.
They can and will survive. Stalling of story, lack of participation, conflicting schedules, differences of skill and experience. Emotional writers, detailed writers, one liners, "I was with everyone and answer everyone". Just realize its all just for fun and your enjoyment and relax.

But there are ways of setting up for death of a story. Losing a leader is one way. Godmodding, lack of a what next, transient characters, and poor concepts of story are some other ways. Trying to recruit too fast can also contribute.

These are the recommended reading for the use of the RP Forum.

These will help with recruiting and forming story groups.

The Taverns act as crossovers. They are Neutral so no actual harm should be done in them. But these are in character meet & greets. Think of them as places to start your character and to meet those interested in having a story told. I mean, for heavens sakes, they are TAVERNS! Have a drink and get chummy. Talk about the meaning of life, Politics, the local news, gossip over plots, have dinner and meals and parties, start up and transition from story to story.

I often get asked for help in understanding what this all means and how it all really works...

All I have to say about this is create a character.

And keep in mind certain things to make your life easier.
Try to stay to the lore and skills of skyrim/TES.
    Make yourself a good backstory.
You should give a brief description in your character sheet of this but don't reveal everything.
Secret pasts make a good story.
A blank slate is not recommended. Have a idea of what you want in your character.

If you write like I do, enjoy yourself. Creating a character will change you. Suddenly you are thinking about their motivations, how they react, and finding them to be living breathing parts of you.

They will surprise you on how they treat the world you and your group create. I play mine when in story with his own purpose, and his actions are his. If you want a clue on combat this is how I treat it.

Have a in game character twin. Then play him/her with the idea of keeping to your "Story" motivations and skill set.
The beauty of Skyrim is the way you play is what you learn and get better at.
This also allows you to get a feel for your character.
What he/he does in game can be written in story... hence it makes combat easier to make real.

I want to express some things here too.

An appreciation of story and characters and the greatness that is TES and Skyrim is what brings us together. But interests will move on and I want to discuss something not often thought of; the ending of a character. Or of a story.

We get into our stories with the abandon of a creative juiced junkie.
    We have grand plans.
Except for how we are going to finish.

    A fade into the sunset.
A death. A blaze of glory.
A simple walk into a tavern and fade away...

What about if your interests fade and you (gasp) decide to leave these fabulous forums for something else or a RL interest? Do you have a escape plan? A exit strategy?
I mean you have spent time building and crafting a character and he/she interacts with other characters just like you do... shouldn't they get a ending that pays respect to the story and your interactions?

The other two tavern threads should probably be stickied... and maybe add an additional one for Riften. Then all four corners of the map would be covered for starting areas... almost :D

Hopefully it will help newcomers find a story and or help create interesting stories.

Anyone willing to post an article on story creation??

Thank you guys for your ratings, likes and reputation. Gemini I added those other taverns the reason I never did at the beginning was that the Role Play area needed to grow first. And having everyone meet in one place made more sense. But now it thrives, new stories daily, lots and lots of fresh story posts in the existing threads. And thankfully as a mod its got to be the quietest area of the forum. problems solve themselves almost. course we have Rayven and Andante and the sage advice early in the process to thanks for that.

I don't think there is roleplaying you play the game the way you Want to you chose you're own path you can be the warrior or hunter or assassin you can be the silent one or the sneaky one Or the you can be the fast or slow one do it how you want to Be how you would imagen you're dream player to be just enjoy Doing it i may not have answer you're question but that's all the Advice i can give you :Dragonborn: Happy hunting

You realise I wrote this about how to write a role play character for our role play section on the forums not how to role play in game. Right?

I love the philosophy behind the way you play. Very deep :)

Yeah... My Olaf is a good guy in role play, but a vampire lord in-game. Anyway to make this work? Like not feeding on innocents?

How about being a Dragonborn Assassin with werewolf powers? You seem that's overpowered? I don't think so. My character, Caelalilian, is all about power and trying to destroy the one person she hates the most: Caellian. She also wants to smell fear on people to satisfy her hunger to fight Caellian.

Caellian, on the other hand is only a Dragonborn/Frost Ranger/Adventurer, who seeks challenges and explores the world at his own disposal.

Both of them destined to fight each other for the rest of their dragon's life span (10,000 years).

lol, No, I never mentioned over-powered. He just didn't seem like a good-guy vampire after that. Oh well, he got accidently deleted.
