1. Backstory:

Filim was born and raised in a rather small village in Valenwood. He was cared for by his father, Endras, and his mother, Distel all his life. He and his father hunted during the day and he helped his mother cook at night. Being a Bosmer, Filim was naturally gifted in archery, but he knew he would never posses the abilities of his father. Endras could put an arrow straight through a deer's neck at 100 paces easily. Filim was always so proud.

One day, a traveller arrived in their small village. Filim and his father greeted the man on their way into the forests. He was a tall, fair-haired Nord named Honard. Honard told them of his adventures all over Tamriel, and how his homeland, Skyrim, had erupted with chaos as a result of a civil war being fought between the Imperial legion and the Stormcloak rebellion.

Honard told them how the Emperor signed a treaty that outlawed the worship of a deity named Talos. This upset many Nords because they did not take kindly to being told what to do, especially not who to worship. A man by the name of Ulfric Stormcloak began a rebellion to push the Imperial legion out of Skyrim so they could freely worship Talos without fear of execution.

Filim and his father bid their goodbyes to Honard and continued on with their day as if any other. They hunted much game, and return to the village later that evening to find their house was gone. In its place laid ashes, burnt rubble, and a singed, lifeless carcass of a female Bosmer. Distel. Filim and his father were absolutely stunned. Who could have done this? Just then, three High Elven soldiers in fancy armor approached them. They accused Endras of harboring a fugitive and sympathizing with a worshipper of Talos.

As they readied their swords and maces, Endras told Filim to take the bag of septims he hid in the tree they skinned their prey at and leave Valenwood, as it would not be safe for him. Endras then attacked the soldiers as Filim ran as fast as he could to that tree. As he ran, Filim heard his father yell what would be his final words, "Talos be with you, my son."

Filim pondered his options that night in the wilderness. He had to leave Valenwood, but where would he go? Hammerfell? Cyrodiil? High Rock? He knew there were ongoing hostilities in Hammerfell, plus the Alik'r desert he'd heard of didn't seem like a very good place to hunt, and that is all he knew how to do. He was fairly certain the soldiers who had killed his father were Imperial soldiers, as they had murdered him for "sympathizing with a Talos worshipper," so the Imperial homeland, Cyrodiil, was out of question.

Then he remembered what his father had yelled right before his death, "Talos be with you, my son." Skyrim. Filim had to go to Skyrim and fight for Talos, and for his mother and father.

He set out that morning and used every septim he had on a cart through Cyrodiil, to Skyrim. It was a long journey, but Filim finally arrived in Skyrim. He had nothing but the clothes on his back, but he was determined to avenge his parents' deaths and to right the wrong that had been done at the hands of the Imperial legion.

- Only carry 10 lockpicks

Lastly, I have a very strict rule that I read about on here (I forgot who started the thread. I apologize!) that I will attempt at implementing but it may be a bit too much for me. We'll see :)

- If I loot any armor from dead enemies/chest/etc., I will roll a six-sided dice. If the dice shows a positive number, then the peice of gear will fit Filim and he CAN wear it. If the dice shows a negative number, the piece of gear doesn't fit Filim and he CANNOT wear it. (This does not apply to armor I purchase in shops.)

The above restriction may seem a bit overboard (I know I thought it was when I first read about it.), but it seems like A LOT of fun and will add a whole new aspect of realism to the game. :)

I will be writing a diary for Filim's day-to-day life, so check back often!

This play style and these restrictions were inspired by BIGwooly and his Nord Refugee Character Diary - Hrisskar III.

Check him out! :)

Not sure if you want comments here, but if you want to be a bit more accurate in the backstory:

Valenwood is actually part of the Aldmeri Dominion. The High Elves laid claim to Valenwood:

Literally translated as "Home of the Elves", the Aldmeri Dominion was an empire that as of 2E 830 made up the realms of Summerset Isle and Valenwood. It was formed when the heirs of the Camoran Dynasty began to fight over the Valenwood throne. A faction of Bosmer attempted to make peace with their enemies in the Colovian Estates by offering part of the Valenwood territory in exchange for the faction's claimant.

The Altmer, upon hearing of this, invaded Valenwood, citing a stewardship clause in a thousand year old treaty.[1] The Altmer established the Thalmor as the government in Valenwood on behalf of their claimant Camoran Anxemes (whose ascendants made the original treaty a thousand years before). As the Empire was still recovering from the Interregnum, the Colovian armies were easily forced back by the Elves and the Aldmeri Dominion was born. The Thalmor strengthened its hold on Valenwood province during the foundations of the Third Empire and Bosmer tribes continued to skirmish with the Colovian Estates under the rule of the High Elves.

With the Empire reunited under Tiber Septim the attacks subsided although each side remained encamped on the border waiting for a decisive battle. At sea, the Elven forces were considerably more powerful and the Dominion was able to hold the southern waters from the Cape of the Blue Divide to the Topal Bay. The Elves made allies with some Reachmen, the Maormer of Pyandonea, and the Elsweyr Confederacy. Although there was no formal declaration of war, Tamriel was divided between the Empire and the Dominion in an unfolding clash of civilizations. The catastrophic use of the Numidium ended the long confrontation, resulting in the surrender of the Summerset Isles and the human conquest of Tamriel. The Dominion would represent the last time the elves of Tamriel ruled sovereign kingdoms on the continent, the final legacy of the Direnni and Aldmer holdings.

Later, in 4E 29, the Aldmeri Dominion was re-established across the Imperial provinces of Valenwood and the Summerset Isles, which were renamed Alinor. Once the Void Nights (4E 98-100) ended, the Thalmor (who govern the Aldmeri Dominion) claimed to have caused the return of Masser and Secunda. The Thalmor also developed a friendly relationship with the former Imperial province of Elsweyr in the form of two client states, Anequina and Pelletine.

Later, in 4E 171, the Thalmor invaded Hammerfell and Cyrodiil after Titus Mede II rejected their Ultimatum. Aldmeri forces would push deep into both provinces, taking many cities, including the Imperial City. The Thalmor then faced their greatest defeat (later known as the Battle of the Red Ring), in which they lost all of their forces in Cyrodiil. Despite this, due mainly to the exhaustion of the Imperial Legions, the Great War ended with the White-Gold Concordat, which resulted in Talos worship being outlawed in the Empire and a significant portion of southern Hammerfell becoming part of the Dominion. However, Hammerfell rejected the treaty and left the Empire, continuing to fight the Thalmor until 4E 180, when the Second Treaty of Stros M'kai was signed by both sides, resulting in the Aldmeri forces pulling out of Hammerfell and a territorial status quo.[2]

"TES5: Skyrim" takes place in 4E 200, which as of that time, Valenwood is still under High Elf control.

It's an interesting play through though, good luck with it!

Let me know if you want me to edit/'delete my post.

Part of the fun for me in roleplaying is actually researching the backstory of the races and going from there. A big thing you may have missed on and could easily integrate into your play restrictions will be The Green Pact. Do some research, it will open your eyes.

I write this as I lie in bed at the Sleeping Giant Inn, in a small village named Riverwood. I arrived in Skyrim today, and shortly after crossing the border, I met a Stormcloack scout named Ralof. He escorted me to the nearest village, Riverwood, and offered me some supplies. I declined though, it simply wouldn't feel right if I accepted his gift as he had already helped me enough.

After Ralof and I departed, I crossed the river and followed a dirt path west, picking herbs as I went. Before my father allowed me to use a bow, I always picked herbs for him when he took me into the forests. We would often sell our surplus at the market in Arenthia and he said the herbs brought in a decent amount of coin. As I followed the path, I came across a fox. Hunting without a bow is difficult, not only because it is harder to kill, but because beating a little fox with your bare fists until its heart stops makes you feel like some kind of barbarian. Oh well. I'll sell the pelt tomorrow, should make me a little coin, at least.

Tomorrow, I'll continue to pick herbs and beat animals, in a different direction. Maybe I'll retrace the path Ralof and I walked, but for tonight, I sleep.

Yes, I understand that Vallenwood is still under Aldmeri Dominion control, but my character doesn't. He's lived in somehwhat isolation, with just him and his parents, all of his life, only going to Arenthia to sell he and his father's surplus. I was afraid of making Filim believe they were Imperials, but I think it will prove to be an interesting plot twists when he discovers his parents' murderers were actually the Thalmor, not Imperials. :)

I'm fine with you leaving your comment up. Thank you for commenting, actually. It means a lot :)

Are you keeping up with a diary for your character as well? I'd be more than happy to check it out. Thanks again!

Today was... interesting, to say the least. I left early this morning and retraced the road Ralof and I came into town on. I proceeded down the road and eventually came across a group of three bandits camped near the road. They didn't chase me, like I feared. They just unsheathed their weapons and told me to back off, but they didn't have to tell me twice! I ran down that road faster than a fox being chased by a bear!

As I continued down the road, I came across a well-dressed couple of travelers being escorted by a soldier in a reddish uniform. I tried to make conversation, but one of the travelers told me they were in a hurry. He said something about a wedding in a town named Solitude.

A few paces after parting ways with the travelers, I began to think about the soldier. I had yet to see a soldier in such a uniform. It was crafted with some sort of leather and chain mail. Was he a mercenary? A sellsword? Probably.

Not long after parting ways with the couple, I saw a deer on the road. I approached it quietly, but it spotted me and began running past me, down the road. I bumped through the couple and their mercenary with the deer still in my sights. I chased it for a few more paces, then it ran into the bandit camp. The bandits stood up from their dirt seats around their campfire and began beating it. In a desperate attempt of survival, the deer dodged one of their blows and ran down the road, towards the couple and their mercenary.

Two of the three bandits chased after the deer while one stayed at their camp. The two bandits met the mercenary and the travelers face to face and the fight began. The woman stepped back while her husband and the mercenary began fighting the bandits. For a man with nothing but a steel dagger, her husband was making short work of the bandits. He and his mercenary killed the lightly armored Orc bandit, then turned their attention on the more heavily armored Nord bandit. Blows were exchanged, then I decided I'd join in and help out the travelers. All I had was my fists, but that's better than nothing, isn't it?

The three of us then took down the Nord bandit with ease, considering our strength in numbers, but after we finished off the bandits, they turned on me. I must have accidentally punched one of them during the chaos! They began chasing me down the road, but I've been chased by much worse. I climbed a cluster of jagged rocks and slid to safety. I was back in Riverwood before they even made their way around those rocks, I bet!

I waited a few hours and returned back to the spot where all of the fighting had occurred. The traveling couple and their mercenary were gone, but the female bandit remained at her camp, not even taking notice that two of her friends lie dead on the road. I looked at this as a gift from Talos. Earlier today, there were three bandits at that camp. Now, there is only one. If I could clear the bandit from that camp, I wouldn't have to stay at the inn, and that alone would save me 10 septims a night. Another day though. Once I get the equipment, with Talos as my witness, that camp will be mine.

I looted a steel sword, dagger, and nice set of fur armor off one of the bandits, not to mention a few septims. The sword wouldn't be of much use, I'm afraid. I'm not one for swinging swords, and it would just weigh me down. I sold the sword and the rest of my surplus and headed to the inn.

Not only am I going to sleep with a new set of armor and a shiny new dagger, I'm also going to sleep 318 septims richer than I was when I arrived in Skyrim! Tomorrow, the bow Alvor, the blacksmith, has will be mine!

The night air in Skyrim is cool, no doubt. I'm writing this as I eat cooked beef and drink ale (courtesy of the Sleeping Giant Inn) around the camp fire at, what was yesterday the camp of three ruthless bandits, what is now the camp one of one Bosmer hunter.

I awoke at 8 this morning and headed straight to Alvor's forge where he was crafting some sort of long, two handed weapon. Maybe a battle axe, or a war hammer. That doesn't matter though. I didn't go there for a war hammer, I went there for a bow. I left Alvor's forge about 250 septims poorer, but I now had a bow, and 30 iron arrows.

I headed to the hills behind the bandit camp. I crouched behind a tree with an arrow in the quiver of my new bow, ready to be released into the woman's skull. As soon as she turned around, I let the arrow fly and it struck home in the woman's back. She spun around and immediately spotted me and pulled out a bow of her own, but it was too late, I had already gotten off another arrow into her thigh, but she was quick. She released an arrow and it landed. The pain exploded in my shoulder. Raising my bow for a counter attack seemed impossible, but I knew it had it had to be done. I did not come this far from Valenwood to be stopped by the likes of this filth.

I raised my bow and took aim, despite the pain burning away at my shoulder. I released the arrow and it pierce her neck. She screamed in pain, then fell on the ground, gasping for air. I approached her as she squirmed on the ground, her face was turning purple. I could no longer watch the woman suffer and decided to end her pain. I shoved my dagger into her heart, and soon she was no longer squirming. She laid there, limp and lifeless.

I removed the arrow from my shoulder at the camp and cleaned it off at the river. I now had my own place to rest, for free. I also found some enchanted robes and a treasure map at the camp. I should be able to get a good price for the robes, and the treasure looks like it's just north of Riverwood. I'll have to check that out in the morning, but for tonight, I sleep with my dagger by my side. "You never know what will creep up on you in the wilderness," my father always said.

I thank Talos for guiding me through another skirmish late last night. After I wrote yesterday's journal entry, I took one last swig of ale and called it a night. As the insects of the night hummed me to sleep, I heard a man's voice off in the distance.

"Is anybody there?" the man yelled. I arose from my bed roll to find the man only a few feeble paces from my camp. I grabbed my bow and slung the sheathe of arrows around me. I gained a vantage point over the man and began sinking arrows into him with fine accuracy. He was down in a few arrows, but I prevailed from the battle without a scratch.

After that ordeal, I was hesitant about sleeping in the forest, but I really had no other choice. It was too early in the morning to travel to Riverwood, and I had to get some sleep.

I headed straight to Riverwood after waking up this morning. I was absolutely giddy about the treasure map I had found, but I'd tried not to get my hopes up. I didn't want to be disappointed if nothing was there.

I crossed the river and followed the trail west to a huge, overturned tree. The map was absolutely correct. Inside the hollow stump of the tree was a chest. Luckily, the chest wasn't locked with an advanced lock, as I only have four lock picks and I'm not very skilled at lock picking anyway. Inside the chest was a garnet, 25 septims, a circlet, and a soul gem. I sold them all at the Riverwood Trader and made myself about 75 septims!

Now, I sit around my campfire eating venison and drinking water out of a tankard. Life here in this land isn't all so bad, but I feel empty. Life without my parents is so.. different. I used to strive to make them proud, now what do I do? Now, I strive to keep their memory alive, although their bodies are not. I strive to avenge their deaths, and with Talos as my witness, I will not stop hunting until I have done just that.

Yesterday was a great day. I woke up around 6 A.M. and decided to hunt south of my camp, considering I had yet to venture in that direction. Not long after I set out, I came across a camp of three bandits. One was tanning leather, while the other two sat around the campfire and sung songs. Very badly.

I moved in to get a closer look, but they spotted me. The two tone-deaf bandits stood up and began chasing me with their weapons unsheathed, while the third stayed back and took shots at me with his bow. I immediately took off running in the direction of my camp, but the bandit archer was proficient with his bow. Thank Talos he wasn't able to land a single arrow, but I heard the "twip" of an arrow just barely missing me numerous times.

I finally managed to lose the bandits and hide behind a group of rocks. I heard them wandering around the rocks searching for me, but by the grace of Talos, they didn't find me. After they fled back to their camp, I walked to Riverwood to buy some arrows and sell the animal pelts I collected.

I continued hunting for the rest of the day until about 5 P.M. when I headed back to my camp. I napped for a few hours and was awoken by the howl of a wolf, far off in the distance. I laid in my bed roll for about ten more minutes, then decided I would head back to the bandit camp. Ambushing them would be much easier in the cover of darkness anyway. I didn't like the odds, three on one, but I knew if I could suprise them with an arrow, then wait until they stopped searching for me, then hit them again, I could defeat them. I just needed to remain hidden.

So I set off towards the camp with my bow at hand and a sheathe of arrows strapped to my back. I snuck from tree to tree until I finally reached the camp, but I was a bit confused-- not to mention relieved-- when I arrived. On the ground next to the camp fire lied the two tone-deaf bandits with a single arrow sticking out of each of their skulls. I was perplexed, but right as I began to thank Talos for this amazing gift, I heard a man yell in the distance.

"You cannot best me!" he screamed. I rushed toward the man's voice to find the bandit that was tanning leather earlier that day in an archery dual with who seemed to be a local hunter. The bandit had one arrow protruding from his chest, while the hunter had three protruding from her torso. The bandit sunk another arrow into the woman's shoulder and she screamed in agonizing pain, then sunk down to the ground, leaning against a tree.

The bandit dropped his bow and pulled out two daggers, one in each hand, and began approaching the hunter. I knew I only had one shot. If my finger slipped, if I didn't pull the bow string back enough, if I didn't analyze the wind resistance and arrow drop correctly, it would be the end of this poor woman's life.

I drew an arrow and set it in the quiver of my trusty bow. I held my breath and lined up the shot. I could smell the woman's blood from where I was. She had a river of crimson flowing down her body, but that just made me even more determined to save her. I released the arrow and it soared through the air. It seemed like it flew forever, but it finally made contact with the bandits skull. He fell to his knees, then on his face, blood gushing from his temples.

I ran over to the woman and gave her a healing potion I had found at my camp when I first arrived there. I removed the arrows from her body and carried her to the river where I helped her clean up.

She was a Redguard, and introduced herself as Ancola. She thanked me for saving her life, and I thanked her for helping me kill those bandits. We parted ways and I headed back to my camp.

My eyelids are heavy and I continuously yawn, but I had to record my achievement. I saved a woman's life. I know my parents would be so proud of me. Oh father, if only you could have seen that shot!

I write this in a cozy bed at the Dead Man's Drink, an inn in a small town named Falkreath. It's early in the morning, but I figured I'd right a short entry for the day.

I woke up this morning and went to Riverwood to sell some of the gear I found at the bandits' roadside camp last night. After I finished selling the last of their supplies, I browsed Alvor's selection of weapons. A nice wooden bow with a frost enchantment caught my eye. He told me the frost enchantment would prove to be very useful because it would slow my target down, allowing for an easier follow-up shot. It was priced at a hefty 434 septims, but I only had a bit more than that.

I told him I'd have to think about it, and I'd return the next day with my decision. I spent the rest of the day hunting in the forests of Falkreath hold, but when the sun began to set, I foolishly continued hunting when I should have returned to my camp. I soon found myself lost in the wilderness.

I wandered around aimlessly until I eventually ran into a group of hunters huddled around a campfire. They pointed me to the nearest road and I followed it to Falkreath. Now I lay in this warm bed drinking a cold ale. Thank Talos for guiding me to this bed tonight. I will return to Riverwood in the morning and purchase the bow from Alvor, as well as sell the herbs and animal pelts I collected today, but for now, I will sleep a very deep sleep.

The campfire is warm, and this cooked venison is so delicious. I had a prosperous day, and I think I may have uncovered something about my parents' deaths.

I left Falkreath at noon and traveled to Riverwood. I purchased the bow from Alvor and replenished my supply of arrows, then headed to the woods to test out my new bow. Alvor was right, the frost enchantment really worked! I will now able to land a second shot on a fleeing elk with much greater ease! This will make hunting much easier.

I continued to hunt well into the afternoon when it happened. I landed an arrow into an unsuspecting deer and it fled. I chased it onto the road until it lead me into three High Elves. One was wearing elegant mage robes, while the other two were wearing the same fancy armor as my father's killers. I was stunned. My body froze, I felt helpless. I was sure they would recognize and slay me, just as they had slain my father that night, but they didn't. They ignored me as of I wasn't even there. I was relieved.

I casually fled the area, walking as fast as I could without making myself look suspicious. I headed in the direction of Riverwood so I could cook my dinner for the night before heading back to camp. On my way there, I noticed a pathway branching off from the main road. I told myself not to follow it, but my curiosity got the best of me. I walked down the pathway to find a large Nord guarding a door. He unsheathed his sword and told me to back off. Well, his exact words were, "Back off or I'll smash your puny, elven face into the dirt and laugh as you bleed to death."

I stood there for a second, then what he said actually hit me. I retreated to the road and let the guard be. On my way to my camp from Riverwood, I wondered what he might be guarding. I've decided I'll sleep for a few hours, then wake up early in the morning and ambush the guard under the cover of the night while he is drowsy, then investigate what was behind the door. It seems like a good enough plan, but I'm a bit hesitant about killing a man who's done no wrong to me. He's probably just bandit scum who has killed plenty of innocent people anyway, and I have no probably killing him if he is.

I will leave my journal here in case anyone finds it. If this is my last entry, then you will know what happened with the guard. Talos guide me through my hunt tonight. The prey may be different, but it is still a hunt all the same.

Hey I like your story, but the dialogue the Nord uses in the passage above is not one of the Nord's default wood elf banter responses. So if your not trying to be factually correct, then it's pretty creative I guess.

Well your writing is very descriptive, and paints a picture nicely. The way you construct your sentences seem as if someone in Skyrim was actually saying it, so no complaints, pretty good.

The sun is setting here in Falkreath hold. I write this at the bandit camp the Redguard hunter (Ancola was her name, I believe) cleared for me the other night.

I awoke at 4 A.M. sharp this morning and headed to the door the intimidating Nord was guarding. I snuck around until I finally gained a vantage point over the man. He was asleep and hugging a bottle of ale as if it was his own mother. I sent an arrow his way and it penetrated his neck, sending him into a permanent sleep. I doubled-checked to make sure he was dead, then entered the door.

I creeped slowly on the dirt floor, avoiding the glow from the torches on the wall. I came into a large room with an undrawn bridge to the left, and two bandits mining ore to the right. There must have been a lever to draw the bridge, but the bandits would have surely noticed if the bridge suddenly lowered. No, I would have needed to neutralize the bandits before drawing the bridge. I reached into my sheathe of arrows to find that I only had two left. I didn't expect to kill both bandits with one arrow, so I turned around and left.

I went to Riverwood and bought a new set of arrows, then headed to the woods northeast of the town. Not long into my hunt, I came across a woman in the forest staring off into the distance. Thinking she was just an ordinary hunter, I greeted her politely and began to walk away, but then she drew her bow and took aim. At me!

I took cover behind a tree and placed an arrow in my quiver. Just as I abandoned the tree to fire, she conjured some sort of transparent wolf. I was stunned. I had never seen anything like this in my life. Father once told me a story of mages who raised the dead and summoned creatures from Oblivion, but this still took me by surprise. I blindly released the arrow and took off. I did not stop running until I was safely inside the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood.

The innkeeper, Delphine, asked me why I was so out of breath. I recalled the encounter with the woman and she told me the woman conjured a "Familiar" that took the form of a ghostly wolf. She said she didn't have a problem with magic like most of the people in Skyrim, but the school of Conjuration was evil.

"Raising the dead is inhumane, and summoning such creatures into our world is just plain wrong. If they were meant to be here, the gods would have put them here." she said. After her little rant, I ordered an ale to go and thanked her for informing me of what I encountered. I hunted in Falkreath hold for the rest of the afternoon and retreated to camp as the sun set.

Now I lay here assessing my options. I have 20 arrows, plenty enough to kill the two bandits, but I'm still a bit on the rocks about attacking them. They're doing no wrong in there, but I'm more than sure they've done their fair share of wrongdoings in the past. Plus, I want to venture beyond that bridge. I'll rest for tonight, and attack them before sunrise. Talos guide me against the men tomorrow, and whatever I may find beyond that bridge.
