I was working a job for Aela the Huntress and then out of nowhere I got a note saying she'd died. She wasn't with me when she died and I have no idea how. But now that she's dead I can't turn in the quest she had me on and the other Companions won't give me any more work because I'm "already working a job for Aela." Is this a glitch or what? Thanks.

Sounds like bad luck depending on where you are quest wise. Just load an older save? I went through something close to that and had to suck up spending 30 minutes playing only to have to go back. Oh by the way, save often!

She died............ that must be a glitch, if you didn't dismiss her as a companion she should have been with you when she died, if you dismissed her, she shouldn't have died..........hmmmm.............
Do this...
Enter into your console with the tilde key " ~ " then type " Player.moveto 1a697 " this should instantly move you to her location in whatever state she may be in. If she's dead, which it sounds like she is, you may spawn on her body. If this is the case just enter the console command " resurrect 1 " while targeting her. If however you either don't get teleported to her or her body happens to of disappeared then simply run this command " Placeatme 1a697 " in which she'll spawn on you, give that a shot while standing in Jorrvask (Or whatever the Companions' hall is called). Apparently doing any of this will have issues with quest givers attached to the NPC such as Skjorn and Vilkas but it's worth a shot, aside from that there'd be one last try you can do...
I'm assuming she died during the "Silver Hand" part as she tends to take a moment to actually spawn, not sure which part you're on but I'll give you the IDs for each main part of the Companions quest chain, all you have to do is enter the stage ID in the proper location.
Command is " Setstage <Quest ID> <Stage #> " don't use the brackets, just enter the numbers and use a space between the ID and the Stage #. Look below for a full listing of the Companions' quest chain ID, you can also just complete the part of the quest you were on and see if that skips you ahead or not.

Same thing happened to me.Went to do animal extermination with Aela.When I got there the saber tooth was already dead.Aela has since died many hours ago and when she did it came up quest had failed and was removed from quest list.The companions still say I am working for Aela and can not get another job

XBOX 360 Level 52, Companions, RESCUE MISSION, Talk to Iddra is broke. Iddra is at the far end on the chamber whose claw-like "gate" will not open (nothing hot to activate). The falmer inside is dead; Aela The Huntress somehow stabbed him thru the gate. The map shows the gate is the only way in. Iddra doesn't hardly move, show she won't come close enough to activate. Without completing this quest, the companians' jobs are closed. What to do?

As far as the companions go, they won't give you another job until you've completed your current assignment. That shouldn't stop other folks from giving you jobs, only companion jobs.

I think I just got another double-up, finding the War Council book. I actually have it in my items list, but it won't show me the dialog option to give to the Arcaneum orc. In the cave where my map says to go, the 4-lever puzzle won't open the gate-none of the 16 possible combinations. I'd opened it before but now it's closed. I'd hoped I could do another walk thru. I can't discard it as a quest item.
The 3rd piece of the Galidaur (sp?) amulet (Forbidden Knowledge quest) is at the bottom of a shallow pool, according to the marker, but it's nowhere to be seen. I've revisited the place (fought off the Draugrs) hoping for a reset/reload without any luck.

I'm taking this is the thread to post for repeat quest problems, so I'll just post my issue:
My second character is a level 17 on the Xbox 360, and I'm currenly on the "Dark Brotherhood Forever" quest. I successfully killed both the Visiting Noble and the Traveling Dignitary, but every time I kill someone from the Indolent Farmer I repeat the quest: approach the Night Mother, go to Ivarstead, etc. Can anyone help?

I've got the same issue, Aela is dead, ages ago. Then I realised I still had one of her missions in my list, kill the wolf in Winterhold. I can't complete the mission even if I killed the wolf and I'm only trying to do these missions so that I can ditch my werewolf curse!!! No other Companions will give me work... any other ways to get rid of the Werewolf? I'm on 360 btw, so can't use console commands.
