I think I got hooked the first time I made the walk from Whiterun to Ivarstead ... I'd spent half an hour in this monochrome winter wasteland, and then I reached the forests near Ivarstead, and it's this explosion of color ... I think I spent 10 minutes just staring at the screen in wonder.

Then there was the time Liddie Bug and I were fighting some Draugr Deathlords and I got stuck in a water trap (forget the name of the dungeon) and she was stuck fighting the Draugr alone ... I'd had her as a follower for the entire run, so she was pretty much a single-handed heavy armor murder machine at that point, but they were too much for her. I heard her crying "I submit," and then ... THEN ... "no, not like this," and I FREAKED. THE. F. OUT. I'm screaming at my computer "You hurt Liddie! I will kill you! I will kill you til you die from it! You don't TOUCH my Lydia! I will raise you from the dead and kill you again, you worthless zombie pukes! I'm coming, Lydia!"
That's when I realized Skyrim had probably got into my brain.

So I made a new character today. It's a male Nord with blonde hair and a knotted beard with long flowing hair, with one blind eye and one hazel - almost yellow - eye. I was trying to go for the whole Viking warrior god thing. Hard to do on PS3 unfortunately but I think I pulled it off. I named him Hakon One-Eye. :) Quite proud of how he turned out. So anyway, I created this dude for a few reasons: one, to do the Imperial side of the civil war. I have this headcanon for him that he's half Imperial half Nord and so he feels torn but agrees with the Empire's ideals. Two, to do a playthrough with a male character (all my others are female), because after watching a few Skyrim LPs, I noticed there were a few dialogue differences for men versus women. So I wanted to experience them. And the third and really unintended reason is to do a playthrough as a sneaky archer and hear all those hidden dialogues you don't get if you're not sneaking. At first I really intended for him to be a badass one handed warrior.. But somehow, as things went along, I found I enjoyed the sneaky archer thing more than bashing heads in with an axe. So there's that.
Apologies for rambling, now here are tonight's wow moments.
First one was finding out that you can actually help the Companions kill the giant when you first run into them, even on console, if you run over fast enough.
Second happened when Hakon was entering Whiterun the first time alongside the Companions and right as the little scene between the blacksmith and the Battle-Born guy goes on, Aela spouts off next to me, "Not even Ysmir himself would have enough patience for all this rabble."
Made me laugh aloud. Perfect timing, that was.
And finally, realizing that Draugr actually seem to apologize to you as they attack. On Hakon's first time through Bleakfall Barrow, two different Draugr said, "Unslaad Krosis." Right as they were charging at Hakon to attack. I know there are different theories as to why exactly they say that, but I tend to think they're apologizing. Why else say it when about to attack? And oddly enough I never noticed that on my main character and first playthrough, or any others besides this one. That's either because I'm playing a Nord this time around, or because I just didn't notice, or maybe it happened and I'm only realizing it now because I've been attempting to learn Dovahzuul bit by bit. Either way, it was pretty neat.
So those are my wow moments, for tonight's Skyrim session anyways. :D

This is not so much a Wow moment as it is a "Oh good, that's handy" moment.

I play on pc and I was doing an Oblivian Walker roleplay. For some reason..(I think it was the Hircine quest glitching on me), I never received the medal even after I had obtained every artefact. ANNOYING!

Fast forward to Dawnguard and as soon as I get my little mitts around that bow, the "Oblivian Walker" medal pops up on my screen.

    Huh...awesome. :D

Just thought you should know in case you have encountered the same problem.

That doesn't make any sense, though, since the bow is an Aedric artefact. o_O
I've experienced some "lag" with the Steam achievement notifications (although not with Skyrim) in the past; perhaps that was what happened? Anyway, glad that you got your reward. :D It's one that I have yet to unlock.

I had a "wow" moment a couple days ago when I discovered that wards could be used to block spider spit.
I was very low level (like 4), and ran into a giant spider with hundreds, if not 1000+ health (it was from the Immersive Creatures mod). It was way too dangerous to fight in melee (and I had no arrows), so I spammed Conjure Familiar and every once in a while (the wolves didn't last more than a few seconds each) switching to Flames and Lesser Ward. Every time the spider (Giant Nightbite Spider I think its name was) spat at me, I raised my ward, and then immediately attacked with Flames until the spider spat again. Took like twenty minutes, but I did kill that thing without dying myself.

I have since found out that if you have the DLC "Dawnguard" installed, for some reason, it knocks the Masque of Clavicus Vile out of the list of Daedric Artefacts. That's the only reason why I think I got the achievement after I got Auriel's Bow. It was many, many levels apart so I don't think lag was a factor.

Either way... I was very glad I got the achievement as I created that character specifically to get it.

I modded my Xbox save, and one of the things included was instant recharge on dragon shouts, so, I fus ro dah'd some guy from Solidtude many many times, so my game would start to lag and freeze, and then... since I decided to not stop pressing the button, The game finally unfroze and the guy had disapeared. After a while I was venturing the wilds of skyrim and I had found his body in the river that was in central Riften....

Right when I got the game was my "oh wow" moment. I was very impressed with the graphics and then I saw that dragon from the trailer as well and I was thinking that I knew I got my money worth. That is always a satisfying experience for me, and the more I can say that the more happy I am.

The most epic and "wow" moment is the first time i killed dragon. that took place in the riverwood, just a normal night walking in the village to go to inn when i heard a dragon. I battled the dragon all night, and whew! that was epic. and wow! I killed a dragon! :D

the other hilarious moment and still a wow for me was the first time i played skyrim charging into a giant's camp with my basic sword and armor hoping to get good stuff to them but they sent me flying in the air. XD :D :D

A hilarious moment happened to me during the Boethiah quest. Out of nowhere as I was watching cultists kill each other, a Frost Troll appears and starts beating on them all. Easy playthrough for me.

I just had a great WOW! moment. I basically levelled myself up to demigod status thanks to adjusting the experience levels way up in Skytweak. I am now level 88, with around 2000 health, and sporting an absolutely ridiculous set of armour. But that isn't the awesome moment I wanted to share.

So, I went out to do some mammoth hunting. A dragon comes along, naturally. I slay him, continue my hunting, and head back to Whiterun. The Dragon Rising quest starts up, so I head toward Dragonsreach from Breezehome. All of a sudden, I am confronted with not one, but five legendary dragons attacking Whiterun!

This is how Skyrim is supposed to be.

Let me guess: "Gaan Lah Haas! Gaan Lah Haas! Gaan Lah Haas!" etc. etc. :D
Drain Vitality spam is bad enough with one dragon; I don't think I want to find out what it's like with five...

I had a kind of a "wow" moment last night, when I visited Shor's Stone with a new character. That town is almost always (99 %) attacked by wolves/bandits/spiders/skeevers/elk the first time I visit it. This time was no exception... first came a random thief. Then after a couple minutes came three bandits. A couple minutes from that a single skeever showed up.

To top it all off, a Stormcloak patrol plus two giants decided to stroll through the town not long after the skeever had been killed. And what would a Skyrim NPC be without the usual "stop-to-gawk-at-corpses" routine... both the Stormcloaks and the giants did it.

Here's the first giant paying his respects (?) to the dead skeever. (Yes, I do have a mod that expands Shor's Stone.)

My first wow moment happened when my character put his two-handed battleaxe behind the neck of a bandit and gave five or more hits with his knee in the face of the bandit, in a really fast speed!

My wife was by my side watching and screamed a "WTF!!?!?!?!?!" .

And one day I saw Mjoll (as my follower) doing the exactly same "fatality".

I had a lot of WTF moments that everybody already posted: giants, mammots, Blackreach, landscapes...

Most of them are from the expansions. Vanilla Skyrim is pretty unremarkable imo, except for certain quest- related dungeons such as Blackreach. The Forgotten vale from Dawnguard and its associated quest is easily better than anything in the main game, and is what woved me the most. Another one is Solstheim, is very nostalgic.

The first time I killed a dragon I did it face to face, but this time I stood atop the tower and shot an arrow through the crenellations. I got a kill cam shot of an arrow flying right into the centre of the dragons forehead. That felt pretty cool. I love seeing the dragons fly overhead as I'm riding on my horse too.

My Wow moment came pretty early in the game. I was roaming around the plains of Whiterun, killing deer for... meat (yeah, definitely meat) when suddenly I came across a water-hole. There were some mudcrabs in there, so I promptly killed them. But then I noticed a HUGE mudcrab. At first I readily fired two Firebolts at it, which didn't affect it at all. Then I finally noticed it wasn't a living mudcrab, rather it was a giant Mudcrab FOSSIL! By Akatosh, are you kidding me?

I was really low level at the time (around 6-7), and my 2nd dragon showed up while I was trekking through the fields outside Whiterun. I thought, well, I'm about to die (I was a pure mage), and out of nowhere, this giant shows up and attacks the dragon with me, and the dragon dies in a curbstomp battle against the giant. It was so awesome. All hail giant bro.

Your 'wow' moment is just the same as me! Well, I also loved to kill the dragon and that's the 'wow' moment that I was going to talk about. It was very thrilling.

My first "wow" moment was when the Greybeards first called down to me after beating my first dragon. That was just really amazing, what with the sky going all dark and stuff. Awesome.

I just tried to kill a Giant. I suppose that's all that needs to be said. It didn't end well for me when it threw me about a mile.
