Is there really any reason to purchase more than one house in Skyrim? I drop 25k gold on the Solitude house...moved my wife there...and noticed, there was no difference. I thought maybe her store would make more, or she would have more gold to barter with.

Bit disappointed...but maybe I'm missing something?

I would just buy one specific house and then when either you're bored or have finished everything you can go back and role-play as a normal citizen or something. Bit unrealistic having more than one house. That's just me though.

Because as you get up in levels you have nothing else to spend money on. I have all the houses but only use one.

I've bought most of the houses. I haven't gotten far enough in Windhelm yet to purchase that one yet.

If there was one DLC or mod I'd love to see it would be a player owned keep. Where you have your own forge, blacksmithing tools, enchanting and alchemy tables, kitchen and maybe a wandering merchant that would hang out near the front of the keep (kind of like the khajiit caravans) where you could sell off stuff or buy supplies. it would also have about a dozen manniquins and about the same in weapon display racks and plaques. You'd have to earn it, maybe by becoming thane of 50% of the holds or doing some quest that unlocks it.... wishful thinking

I am just buying the cheap one next time. Dropped a huge packet to buy the one in solitude for the wife. First time back I hunted the house for her only to find her asleep in the straw in the cellar. Ungrateful cow:sadface:

I bought all the houses because I can ;). But seriously, I wanted to see which house was the best and what they all had to offer. This is my first character so I didn't know what each had. I like them all except the house in Windhelm. It's a bloody mess. I heard that I should have paid the $500 gold to have the murders mess cleaned up but I power clicked through the decorations list. Apparently the option to clean up should be picked first because once you buy any decoration, the clean up option goes away.
It would have been a great house if everything worked and there werent bones and blood all over the place.
With that said, top picks are Solitude and Markarth.

Starting over...with no crafting or enchanting. Base difficulty. Make things a little tougher, not to mention don't want to waste coin on a solitude house or waste perks on things like pickpocketing and lockpicking.

Think I'll try a paladin type character

no that house is glitched. atleast on xbox because i never got the option to clean up the mess. but thats my fav so far. havent bought the one in riften or markarth. dont really wanna live in riften or sleep on a stone bed. ive tried it in the field and my whole body was sore for like 2 days.

The house in Riften is like a Walk in closet but has good storage and a 2 mannekins for armor display. The house in Markarth has a real bed in it, not a Flinstone stone slab. extra weapons racks and display cases. It was very well done.

Actually one of the biggest downers in Skyrim i must admit.
I heard you can invest in a local business to make more gold. I haven't done that yet but will be looking into it.

If you do not fast travel, as part of your RP or simply to add some difficulty, having all the houses is helpful I imagine.

I bought Breezehome first them Proudspire. I can offer that if you are OCD and need to keep your armor in one chest, weapons in another, etc. Having more than one house is mandatory because none of them offer enough storage in just one location. I have taken Proudspire as my residence and use Breezehome as an armory. Still need more room though... The horror of having to put staffs in with blades is almost too much to bear. : )

Is there any difference in the houses you buy or like the brotherhood or college? I know the college I get the key to the Mage quarters so it's private but right now I've got all my stuff at the new brotherhood sanctuary and I'm debating if it's worth buying a house. When I get married will my wife treat either one of those like a house? I actually really like the arch Mage room thinking I wanna stay there

I do not trust guild granted rooms, purchased home chests only for me.

Your wife cannot stay in the Arch Mage room, even if she was one of the students. Really annoyed me having to pay money for a real house. It seems perfectly safe for storage, add in the storage from your student room, and Mages guild seems to have more storage than you can shake a stick at.
