What does the STORE command do in the inventory menu

Hi. I've noticed sometimes when I'm going though my inventory that I can press X (360 version) to store an item and it will disappear from my inventory. I'm pretty new to Skyrim and don't have a house yet so I don't know where the stuff is going. Does anyone know what this command does? Sorry if this has already been answered but I've googled it and searched these forums and haven't found the answer.

If you're clicked on a chest, a body or something that contain an object, you're giving it that thing. If you press x on your items during regular play, you just drop it on the floor. The safest way to store an item is too do it in your own house as I think anywhere else, it will disappear after a while. Basically, if you store it, you may lose it unless it's your own house.
