What do you wish someone had told you, before taking on the Dragonborn DLC

I recently upgraded to the legendary edition, having already put a couple hundred hours in to the vanilla (with a very few mod tweaks). So now I'm going to tackle the DLCs before doing some mod overhauling. First things first I'm going to take on the Dragonborn DLC. I hear there is a pretender to the title of dovahkiin, and I want to sort them out. Before I charge in, however, is there anything I should know?
Obviously I'm fairly competent, generally (depending on who you ask), but there are often little quirks that I'd like to be prepared for. For instance, before playing the main game, I wish someone had told me to leave all chickens alone. Can anyone think of anything they wish they had been told before starting the Dragonborn DLC?

Get prepared to spend some money as an... investment. It will pay off later, true, but initially, it can get a little bit annoying. Be prepared to run around like a fool looking for big books and armour sets, (they are again, worth all that running, though.)

And most importantly, be prepared to get beaten to a pulp by a giant frost giant who is immune to almost every enchantment you throw at him, except maybe fire damage. His name is Karstaag, and he is the single hardest enemy I've faced in the game, even harder than the ebony warrior. :ashstab::ashstab:

... That the new graphics for the crashing waves of water would get me dizzy and nauseated...

If you played Morrowind, Dragonborn DLC's soundtrack might give you flashbacks. :beermug:

Don't go into Solsthiem below level 25.

Get some kind of fire resistance or super over-powered armor because ash spawns are a huge pain.

    Leave ash guardians alone.

Be prepared for mob-attacks ranging from 5 to 20 enemies at once.

Lurkers and Seekers will duplicate if you don't kill them fast enough.

Hoard scrolls of guardian circle and fire storm, they'll come in handy during the last fight.

Werebears, Burnt Spriggans, Bull Netches, Ash Guardians, and Reaver Lords are unfairly op.

If you are an archer, bring an absurd amount of arrows as you cannot retrieve arrows from Seekers even with the Hunter's Discipline perk.

To leave Apocrypha, read the book you used to get in again.

You'll need an inhaler from all the ash you'll be breathing.

That Miraak was a cheap motherfluffer who can regenerate his health from Shouting a dragon to death. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO KNOW, LIFE!

    That grasshoppers could be deadly!

Oh, and to bring my asthma medication for all the ash.

And don't get me started on Miraak and his kleptomania.

Does anyone know how to stop Neloth and the people outside to stop attacking you the second you get to Tel Mireth?

Hi- if the folks at Tel Mithryn are attacking you, either you have committed some crime against them or their faction or you are experiencing a bug of some sort. They shouldn't be doing this. You probably got this sorted by now, but just in case, didn't wanna leave you hanging.

As for Solstheim, I wish I had known about Miraak and his inter-dimensional, continent-skipping soul sucking powers, that low-down, dirty B!

It's good to gather all the alchemy ingredients there- even the ones that seem the same as common ones from Skyrim, because chances are, they aren't. Grass pods and Ashen grass pods look identical in the world but do very different things in potions. Emperor Parasol Moss versus hanging moss is the same story; look identical, very different effects, super rare ingredient. Awesome place for alchemists to get good stuff. If you are into alchemy at all, I also recommend frequently checking the merchants that sell ingredients for local specialties and buying whatever they have if you can afford it, and if you are venturing in Solstheim, you can afford pretty much whatever you want.

I wish someone had told me that if I sided with the cute little Rieklings and got a pack mule extra follower who could also fight and equip some items (yay!) that I would lose a merchant, and that I would feel that loss very, very greatly as I trundled my gynormous sacks of treasure and loot of all kinds all over Solstheim, leaving piles of loot like massive breadcrumb trails wherever I went because there was just SO much of it, and so few merchants, with such limited funds to spend buying my stuff! Argh. That quest still gets me, both sides are fun to play. How to choose!
