Werewolf skill tree not available

DL'd Dawnguard...Loaded a save with a toon that was already a werewolf from the Companions quest line. When I try to access the skill tree in Beast form, it informs me that the character menu is not accessible in beast form?

Feed on a corpse or two and then try to access the skill tree.

I think you get your first perk point after you feed on 5 humanish corpses, undead and animals don't count. After you feed on a few you should get a message appear in the top left corner saying you got a perk point though the message only appears briefly, once that appears you should be able to go into the perk tree.

I am my Avatar. Never loaded the game while online after I got Dawnguard.
