The Last Guardian, long thought to be an abandoned game despite Sony's insistence that it was active, made a surprise appearance during the last E3. Since then people have been hungry for new footage, and Fumito Ueda, the game's long-standing director, may be about to provide just that.
Ueda hinted as much when he tweeted a new photo from the game today: it's the foot of Trico, the massive birdlike griffin-creature that the game centers around, behind a cage. "We are thinking about how to take Trico to the Makuhari (in a new and different way)," Ueda said. Makuhari is the place where this year's Tokyo Game Show, or TGS, will take place.
The Last Guardian is the follow-up to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, two critically acclaimed games that were released for the Playstation 2. The heyday of the PS2 was quite a while ago, but that's how long people have been waiting -- nearly as long as they've been waiting for Shenmue 3, an itch that was also finally scratched at this year's E3.
Tolyo Game Show begins in a week, on September 17. An appearance by The Last Guardian at TGS would not be surprising.
