Aldmeri Dominion
The name "Argonian" was first given to the man lizards by our Aldmer Ancestor Torpal the Pilot. These beast call themselves The Saxhleel, which in the native tongue (Jel) translates to people of the root. The Argonian facial expressions are often misleading, an Argonian will rattle his gills when about to attack. However this is a low hard to distinguish noise.
Argonians are not born naturally intelligent, rather instinctive. Through the drinking of Hist Sap an Argonian gains increased cognitive ability. It also determines their form. There are 5 main tribes of Argonians.
Agacephs: Most have needle-like faces and vary in color from bright green to orange. Found in inner Argonia, near the Hist.
Archeins. These at one time were the leaders, since the reign of Tiber Septim, their influence has been in decline.
Paatru. Are the most toad like of the race. Short and simple of mind.
Sarpa. These are the winged Argonians. This tribe is nearly extinct. The reason is unknown.
Nagas: They are described as having "huge mouths filled with dripping needle-like fangs". Usually seven to eight feet tall, the Nagas appear to be more snake-like than other Argonians. When the other races were attempting to put plantations into Argonia, they generally acted as highway robbers; however, since the other races ceased trying to put plantations in Argonia, they have left the roads and have gone back into the inner swamps. One would be wise to avoid a confrontation with a Naga unless you have an abundance of back up.
While many Argonians are gifted in the art of illusion magick, the females more so. Males tend to be more physically gifted.
On the social structure of Argonians
Individuals belong to clutches, clutches belong to tribes, tribes seem to be interdependent for internal affairs with their own executive authority. There is an enormous variety of authorities ranging from warlords, to tribal chiefs, chieftains, kings, and priest kings
Currently the majority of power resides in an Xileel political party.Much like our own Thalmor they are an ethnocentric group, caring only about advancing the causes of Argonia.
