Later this year, at least in Japan, the worlds of Atlus's Shin Megami Tensei and Nintendo's Fire Emblem will merge in one Wii U game. We still don't know much, other than the gameplay will be completely different from what's typically expected of either series. How'd you like a new trailer for the game? How'd you like TWO trailers?
Once again, not much about the gameplay is revealed, but a lot more about the story is. It centers around a character named Tsubasa and follows her quest to become an idol. Singing and performing will be a central part of the plot, and this is based on old Japanese folklore and beliefs. "In Japan, similar to Greek mythology, there's the idea of the gods being connected to the arts," says Atlus producer Shinjiro Takada. "It's a shamanistic element that's been interpreted by Atlus. The idea is, Japanese priestesses would dance and the dancing would bring them closer to the gods. We wanted to spin this in an Atlus way, so all the characters in the game have some connection to the arts, and that connection and their ability to express themselves attracts the Mirages to them. People who are good at singing or dancing or acting have really strong bonds with Mirages."

Both trailers lean heavily on the SMT side of the crossover, but Chrom from Fire Emblem does make an appearance here.

Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem for Wii U will begin showing up in Japanese stores on December 26. A Western release is planned, but details have still not been laid out regarding it.
