No footage yet of The Witcher 3's first consumer demos at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego, but first impressions from those that were there seem to be solid.

Games Radar provided an overview of the demo, saying it showed our hero, er, protagonist Geralt dealing with a trio of witches, a hulking werewolf, and dealing with an evil tree. There was one decision point in battle with the tree where Geralt can apparently decide to kill it or not, the demo player killed it. Also, apparently there were a few glitches with the voices in the demo, but luckily Geralt's voice actor Doug Cockle was on hand to do them live, along with other characters like the old ladies.

IGN's Steve Butts was impressed with what he saw in the demo. Geralt had several "amazing abilities" to choose from, Butts said.

"The combat is super intense, very visceral. Super bloody, of course," Butt said.

Butts said that CD Projekt Red is committed to keeping The Witcher series at its customary tough difficulty level. He said at higher difficulty levels instead of simply having harder to kill enemies, enemies will gain new allies to shift the balance of the fights.

The panel also included an announcement of a coffee table lore book called The World of the Witcher, which will include art and details about The Witcher world. The book will launch along with the game.

The game will be out Feb. 24 on PS4, Xbox One, and Windows.
