The game won't let me break into Proudspire to get the Unusual Gem

I got a key off the guy at the Fletcher's, but it is called "Key to Solitude Fletcher." I go to Proudspire (and try all three doors) - and the key doesn't work.

I really do not want to fork over 25,000G to buy a house when all I want from it is the Unusual Gem inside it.

Also, I am playing the PS3 version, and I believe I have the latest version.

I'm not sure what the Key to the Solitude Fletcher has to do with the gem or getting in to Proudspire, but to my knowledge, the only way to get into the manor is to buy it.

That has been patched so the key no longer works.

Fortunately, I have a save before I swiped that key.

Unfortunately, I now need 25,000G for a house, when I currently "live" out of the Arch-Mage's quarters in Winterhold (I am Arch-Mage.)
