Revenant of Shadows
I made this a very long time ago and am re-posting it. Anyway, here explains the process to beginners, and anyone that has an interest in Oblivion nowadays, like myself.

Greetings novitiates and guests who will be reading this guide. And a warm welcome to those newly members who have just signed up here on the forum. The video that had a much descriptive form of this guide in practice has been deleted, due to it's heavy content and making people sick with symptoms of nausea and mental hysteria and the fact it was an earlier creation of this example.
Now to you novitiates and fellow guests I have taken the time to present this guide to you in a written form, with the love I have for Oblivion, as such, the least I expect is contentment on your part.
introductionu.png
As an introduction of the media content that is not present with us today I will demonstrate in words the scenario of the creation process of black soul gems, plus the fundamentals of the gems and we'll be taking a look at the fundamentals of souls later on in this presentation.
To begin lets ask ourselves what exactly is a black soul gem and what is purpose for acquiring one? The answer, of course, is of no surprise that dealing with anything in the black arts carries a mystifying sensation of power and evil and dear fellow reader, you can take my word for it that this is no side stepping the question, that if you have felt this, then you have a clear understanding of what motivates you in attaining one. Pure simple maliciousness.
Now a back-track to our question. What is this mysterious gem, that to whom you all my fellow readers will never see in any cabinet or shelf in any guild in all of Cyrodiil?
The question now is beginning to compel you more and more with a thick shadow of anxiousness to understand what is hidden from you and what is shrouded in only the darkest caves and the derelict strongholds which has served to protect the arts of the menacing necromancers and what screams who guard it leaves traces of unforetold malice in the blood stains on the walls. Ask yourself dear reader and novitiates of the necromance why... why are YOU bound from such dark arcane knowledge.
This question dear reader needs only to be focused to the myopic administration of your mages guild for they in their blatant ignorance shade over that which they themselves fear. They cast the shadow of true darkness covering the real knowledge and wisdom
in all things arcane yet they deceive you by their smoke and mirrors in preaching what they falsely perceive to be of as good and of light and filling your books with their preconceived ambiguities of what a mage should learn.
Their minds are so compelled by the thought of the consequences and potential for greater power one can have in acquiring such arcane tools of "evil" (i.e. the preconceived term of a miss understanding) in ones position.
This also shows the lack of faith and distrust they have in their own pupils. By the Divines!!!
The myopic cretons who cloak themselves in fine robes and run your guilds are no different than those who bath in the blood of their fellow man hacking away at every limb. To separate ones self from the exploration in the dark realms of the human anatomy and bodily disfigurement in mutilation in such a sweet serenity surrounded by his or her fellow recluses, thus is the way of the necromancer, is to eat your brain internally and pl*** it out.
Why consider a Grand soul gem any less of an evil to a black soul gem? For a grand soul gem's soul purpose is to incarcerate an animals soul and leave him or her exposed to a mere idiotic intent by a dumb fool in mage's robes. But this is fine however, compared to a black soul gem used by the gifted freelance and ex patriots of the guild to exercise their creativity and ingenuity in learning new things, to incarcerate a simple biped?!?
Dear fellow reader a soul is a soul of essence unto essence unto essences of all things in one and the barriers set by the balding fools who have the cheek to waltz around your guilds like some high divine putrid brightly lit detritious dragging from Uriel septems backside in silky robes is a novelty you shouldn't let limit your free mind, my dear fellow reader...

Phase 1: Grand Soul Gem(s) Attainment
The grand soul gems as you all know are used to entrap the souls of creatures unlike Azures star and black soul gems that are used for entrapping NPC's (i.e. Humans).
The first phase in creating a black soul gem requires a grand soul gem, listed below are some of their common locations.
Areas & Building
  • Chorrol Mages Guild (× 2)
  • Arcane University, Arch-Mage's Lobby
  • Arcane University, Mage's Quarters
  • Crayfish Cave, Steep
  • Drakelowe, Basement
  • Nornal Ageasel
  • Squandered Mine Wind Holes
  • Mystic Emporium
  • _______________________________________
NPC's
  • Angalmo
  • Felen Relas
  • Ardaline §
  • Selena Orania
  • Eilonwy
  • Alves Uvenim

Black Souls (1600)
Humanoids (the ten races of Tamriel), Vampires and Dremora are NPCs and their souls can only be trapped in black soul gems.
Soul Strengths
There are six possible soul strengths:
Soul LevelSoul Strength
Petty 150
Lesser 300
Common 800
Greater 1200
Grand 1600
Black 1600
As you can see a black soul vs a Grand soul are equal.
Points of reference
A creature's soul strength is determined in one of two ways.
  1. Most standard creatures have fixed souls. For example, every Flame Atronach will have a common soul, regardless of location or player character's level.
  2. Most unique creatures and some other creatures have a soul strength based upon the player character's level--either the PC's level or an offset of the PC's level.

Phase 4: Dates and time of the Shade of the Revenant
Most important thing to remember in the corruption process of these gems that it is by thy Revenant's grace that you presented these gems. The shade of thy Revenant only appears at certain times and these you need to remember upon visiting an altar.
Dates for the Shade of the Revenant
Day - Date
1 Last Seed 27
9 Heartfire 4
17 Heartfire 12
25 Heartfire 20
33 Heartfire 28
41 Frostfall 6
49 Frostfall 14
57 Frostfall 22
65 Frostfall 30

Phase 5: Locating the Altar of the Revenant
Time to saddle up the horse and set out for the corruption process.
Here is listed a map and the coordinates of altar locations.

Phase 6: Black Soul Gem Creating Process

Upon arriving at the Alter, one will see the void of the purple shade of thy revenant glooming over the Altar of corruption. This altar is treated as any other chest in Oblivion, thus for you to corrupt a grand soul gem with grace of thy revenant,
insert the empty grand soul gem inside of it.
In the spells menu select a soul trap spell and cast it on the altar.
Open it again and retrieve the black soul gem gifted to you by the shade of thy revenant's grace.
Cast a soul trap on an NPC (i.e. Humanoid) just as you would with a soul trap on a creature.

Phase 7: Fundamentals of Black Soul Gems
Soul: ID: Weight: Value: Capacity:
empty 00000192 0.5 500
grand 000382E0 0.5 1200
empty 0003C7FC 0 0 1600 0 1600
empty 001EC14 0.5 500

Special soul gems that can capture NPC souls as well as creatures; see Black Soul Gems for details.
  • The third variety listed (ID 0003C7FC) is a quest-specific variety used during the Cheydinhal Recommendation, and is actually a standard Grand Soul Gem (it cannot be used to trap NPC souls). Using these quest-specific soul gems is not recommended (see the quest bugs).
  • The fourth variety listed (ID 0001EC14) is never found in game, and cannot be used if added through the console.

Grand Soul Gem VS Black Soul Gem?
Work it out
The Necromancer's way...

BUGS
A glitch exists which allows you to create multiple Black Soul Gems from the same Grand Soul Gem. If you place at least three (Some say two) filled Grand Soul Gems grouped on the same inventory line into the altar and cast the Soul Trap spell, all three will still be present along with the Black Soul Gem when you open the container. You can repeat this process, but all the gems must be removed and returned to the altar each time, or the entire group of Grand Soul Gems will disappear once you have cast an equal number of soul trap spells as there are gems in the group.
