Sven, how do I get rid of this jackass?!

I rescued Sven from bandits and have regretted it ever since. I went to Riverwood to the spot where the quest arrow is hovering in the air, but Sven won't leave. Can you command NPC's on PC so I can just get him to stop following me?

I think that if he is travelling with you as a companion you should be able to just talk to him, and tell him that it's time that the two of you part ways.

Couldn't talk to him because he was waiting to be returned to Riverwood. He just kept saying Please take me home! like a helpless child. After trying the Companions again in Whiterun, I returned to Riverwood during the day (the first time was at night), and then he decided to leave.

If I killed him I wouldn't have gotten the reward from the Companions. Otherwise, yeah.
