Staying interested after Level 50

I don't think I have ever gone beyond level 52, but now I plan to tackle the only Quest left, the Ebony Warrior, which means I have to get to Level 81.

In the past I have done the main quest, Archmage, Thieves, Dark Brotherhood, Companions, Miraak and the Vampires, and still barely broke Level 40. So now I have to get another 40 levels with no real challenges. Any advice on how to keep it interesting as I kill countless bandits, dragons giants etc. just to keep leveling up?

Well I don't even start questing until about level 70 so I guess I'm not much help but imo the game plays much, much better at high levels. I'll run the main quest just enough to unlock dragons and then power level/collect equipment/roam the earth/craft my butt off/grind magic/etc, just to hit a high level and then start seriously questing and RP'ing. Makes for a much more fun and challenging playthrough when all the draugrs are deathlords and all the mages are a major threat.

As far as a challenge, do the Crimson Nirnroot quest in Blackreach and clear it out completely.

I find I can kill a good 20 or 30 levels doing all the sidequests for the TG or DB. Sure it's boring, but, it does kill time. I've also killed a good 20 levels just wandering east to west from the northern coast and then down entering every cave, ruin or dwelling I run across. I still get surprised at what I find. Still, I've never made it to 81, although this time I'm going to try. Maybe my little RP Khajit can get that high. Since I can only play him once a week and he's only at level 16 (just checked) after 6 months, maybe I'll be able to get him there by, say... 2023?

Why is the alto wine always gone?
the only non boring way to level fast is imo snchant some gear with free alteration and then go into a town and mass paralyze people, once alteration is 100 reset it and repeat, or you could use telikensis and pick up a random object outsude white run and while holding the odject fast trave to riften, though i never did that personaly but others say it lvls fast. so unless you hate grinding out 40 levels, you may need to resort to exploiting lol. also go to dwemer ruins and collect metal, go toa wood block, preferably near a smithing station and chop alot of wood, alot of fluffing wood, then make dwarven arrows, this will level BS and give you an endless supply of arrows to either keep and go pew pew to enemines, or sell for coin. also try making a weapon with soul trap and just charge gems to enctant a bunch of iron daggers or leather peices, that will lvl enchanting and bring in coin and you can reset enchanting to keep leveling up.

Why? What possible RP justification could there be for such behaviour?
In your "Paralyze" scenario, I suppose you could just a total a-hole and want to mess with people.
I suppose the "Telekinesis" thing could be justified if you wanted to get that thing from one location to another, but, since I don't use fast-travel as there is no "teleport" spell, it seems kind of pointless.

At least with the arrows and the soul gem/enchanting thing I can work it in to RP, but the other two?????

Lol... Why does he have to justify anything? Low level Skyrim is BORING after you've played a bunch of hours.

But if justification is necessary, he could just craft his butt off, grind spells, whatever and pretend that he took time off from adventuring to go to some college somewhere for some intense education. Or, like me, my builds are basically drones until I get them up to at least lv50. You can level and not gather so by the time I hit 50, I'm basically broke and my inventory is basically empty.

Then I 'arrive' in Skyrim. Why do we always have to start Skyrim as a useless grunt? Why can't you leave Helgen and just train, train, train until you are ready to quest? Just because the Jarl wants me to go kill a dragon doesn't mean I'm ready to do it. I mean, if you can't find a way to work training into RP I don't know what to tell ya.

I like that. Grind to 50 and then REALLY start RPing once you can hold your own. I'll have to try that! :) Thanks!

Have you collected all of the daedric artifacts? If you eschew fast travel you should be able to level up several times by working through all of those quests. Especially if you marry a follower and sleep daily to get the "lovers comfort" bonus to level skills more quickly.

Yeah, done that, all the dragon priest masks,, the stones of Berenziah, Bards College, Aetherium crown…………..

Bad to the Dragonbone.
Do you want to do this legitimately? If you haven't already done so, switch from your preferred armor and weapon to the other. For example, if you normally use heavy armor, go to light. Not only will it help your leveling but it'll probably increase the challenge. Craft potions and smith. Enchant stuff. Sell it all one at a time. Spam cast spells whenever possible. With this method, some amount of grinding is unavoidable.

If you don't mind exploits, then that is the fastest way to get to where you want to be. Use the Restoration Potion Glitch to create something insanely powerful like a Ring of Ultimate Alchemy with 20000000000%. Make Alchemy legendary. Craft a potion and go from 15 to 100 just like that. Rinse and repeat.

You've really done all of it by level 50? Good gravy! When I get to level 50 I've barely scratched the surface! How on Nirn did you manage it? I'm at level 30 now and have only done Dragon Rising and barely started the College (and a couple of small side quests). I'll be at level 50 or thereabouts by the time I finish the College and then the fun can really begin! I know on my first runthrough I just did the main questlines and no sidequests at all (including Solstheim) and was at level 63 and still had innumerable side-quests that hadn't been touched. I could have gone on forever, but he bored me so much (I'm getting that way on warriors lately - hack & slash can get really dull after a while).

Here's For Your Trouble
Yea, I often hit the mid or high 40s without doing any of the quest lines. Just random jobs for the Jarls and various people I come across. In fact in 6 or 7 play throughs I've only done the main quest more than once, and almost finished the College story a second time but I was only doing it for the dragon mask. I'm level 60 in my current game and I finished the Companions story for the first time but only just found the Elder Scroll in the main questline. I'm thinking of doing the Stormcloaks again, then DB. I did both in my very first game of Skyrim so maybe they'll be interesting again. This game I've mostly been occupied with the Oblivion Walker achievement; I only have Mehrun's Razor and the Ogma Infinium to find now.

I like the idea of making a couple of skills legendary and changing armour type and your primary style of attack. I'm going to take daedric smithing soon while I level archery back up to 100, but once that's done I may take dragon smithing, put together a suit of dragonscale armour and start running around with Volendrung. I have no ability with light armour or two handed weapons so it could be a fun way to make the game more challenging

I also like the idea of running from one end of Skyrim to another hitting every cave or fortress you pass! How long do you have to wait for everything to reset? 30 days? Sleep for 30 days then do the entire north coastline from Winterhold to as far west as you can go, then do it back the other way but slightly south of the coast so you pass through places like Dragon Bridge and Morthal and end up in Windhelm. Then... do it again! That could be done at least four times, and maybe even five, where you'd be hugging the mountains at the bottom of Skyrim. The Twilight Sepulcur, Helgen, that place where a dragon fights a load of draugr, Lorgashbur... all the way to whatever is on the extreme south-east! It would have to be about leveling skills you've made legendary or never used though. Far too boring otherwise.

Partly because I like to see how low I can keep my level and still complete quests: I have done the main quest at level 7, probably others could better that.

This is how I have been playing my heavy roleplayed character, Grobenjii lately. He is currently Lv29 with no dragons. I plan to unlock the dragons around Lv50. I dont want to become leader of any faction until Lv50-60 either...

  • No fast Travel (except carraiges/boats in emergency). I level up and get lots of pelts for smithing doing this.
  • I have my wife, Borgakh travel with me. She is a fantastic follower, gives me gold, feeds me and does nice things to me when I sleep so that Im ready to tackle the world the next day (I still have no idea what she does, so dont ask).
  • I pick a faction (currently dawnguard, which is the 1st faction Iv joined) and do a LOT of odd jobs for them. Its easy with the dawnguard because of the awesome weapons you unlock.
  • Including travel, it usually takes me about 2-4 days to finish a job. I wake up at 5 every morning (refreshed from the missus;)) and start running towards my destination, if its still early and Im closish, I'll do a random dungeon dive. after that, I go get my (eg) Rune Axe than head to the closest town to drink at the pub and sleep.
  • Sometimes Benjii wakes up and feels like wandering around Fort Dawnguard or Markarth (he is thane) and just sell/smith/enchant and socialise all day. After a week of adventuring, its usually those days that I level up the most... I'll be lost when he maxes Speech/Smithing/Enchant!!
  • He wears a mixture of heavy and light armour. They level slower but in the end his overall level will be higher.
  • He is a weaponmaster. He uses Two-handed, Sword&board, Dual-wield and archery roughly the same amount as eachother.
This is the character that will take on the Ebony Warrior, which im yet to face as well.

FYI. I hate early levels. I have reverse Re-rollitis. A new charcter is lucky to make it to level 5 b4 I delete them and keep playing an established character.

How do you keep from leveling? Do you just not go in and level? What about perks? Mine just levels and levels without even really trying.

Let followers do most of the fighting, don't smith, sneak etc. I Level and take perks when they become available (obviously not too often)

Okay. WAAAAYYYY too boring for me. Good thought though. I HAVE to smith and enchant, it's in my DNA and I LOATHE followers. Oh well, I guess I'll just keep leveling quickly.

You've created quite a challenge for yourself, now trying to reach level 81 after having g previously tried to complete everything at the lowest level you could. Any particular reason to do it on the same character rather than a new one? Also, I don't see if you've addressed crafting - have you boogied through those skills too? Anything eligible for be made legendary?
