i believe that they do disappear after a certain period of time.

I started a thief/assassin playthrough yesterday, and the strangest bug happened to me..
Soon after defeating the first dragon with the Jarl's Dark Elf housecarl, I fast traveled back to Dragonsreach to complete the quest. Once that business was done, I walked out the gates of whiterun to find the dragon's corpse at my feet.

Yeah, WTF. Same thing happened with me. I killed the dragon by the western watch tower, and he now is half inside the WALL of whiterun, having an epic seizure infinitely. Such weirdness.

He also went from being a skeleton to having flesh. What a n00b.

The only really odd glitch I've had with a dead dragon is one time I killed a dragon out in the wilderness and ran up to it to loot but for whatever reason i did not consume it's soul. The corpse didn't burn up, no CONGRATULATIONS or anything like that. Just a dead dragon.....bein a dead dragon.
