Shalidor's Writing Quest in High Gate Ruins

Urag gro-Shub from the College of Winterhold asked me to find one of Shalidor's
Writings in the High Gate Ruins. I have already cleared out that location and when I
try and go to the chest that has the book, it is in an area that has been sealed off
by a metal door. In order to open the door you have to kill Vokun, but i have already
done that before, so I don't know how to open the door and get the book from the
chest.
Does anyone know if there is another way to get to the chest?

I am having the same problem, but I am playing on the XBOX 360 version. Does anyone know how to fix this?

without looking at a map of the place, isn't the shortcut back enterance behind those gates? so you could go back to the beginning and take the shortcut back to that room.
I'm not sure so I could be wrong

shouldn't the place also respawn in 30 ingame days. If so wait that long and go back to it again.

At least you got a location. When I got this quest, it didn't give me a map location and I had to go to the wiki to see what was going on. Apparently it's a random place between three locations and one of them just so happens to be on the Emperor's ship, so you can't get to it until the quest comes along.
Which, I'm screwed on because I was playing a goodie guy and killed Astrid and have to wipe out the DB. Which means I'll have to console fix this quest.

couldn't you just sneak on the ship anyway and not kill the emporer? Besides why would the guards be hostile if you are not there to kill him?

The ship doesn't show up until you get the "Hail Sithis" quest (I think that's the one)

From the first room where Anska is, there is a balcony that Vokun's Throne Room leads out from. The passageway there is blocked by a gate just like in the Throne Room. This is a problem, because "Shalidor's Insight" is a repeatable Quest for some decent magic upgrades.

Ah, I read the wiki on this place after I posted and found that there is a bug with that short cut back door.

although it seemed to indicate if you hav a follower, and run really quickly down to the inner door and get close to it the follower will magically get through the other door and meet you on th other side of the gate. then you can command them to open it. not sur though
