Anyone know if there is any real quest to help Rune find out who he really is?

I am trying to find out that too. I found a book somewhere about a baby wrapped in blanket and yadda yadda yadda-I thought that might be him, but I sold or dropped the book(or maybe I didn't pick it up like I thought I did) and now I can't find it! Arrrrggghhh!

Thats about the prisoner in the cell, in riften jail.
He'll give you a key to his strongbox for that info by the way.

I even dove to the bottom of the ocean up north to see if there was info on him in one of the wrecks up there, nada or I missed it.

Welcome to the forums by the way.

I think there is, but I have to check when I get home from work this evening. I think there is a ship wreck up north, east of Winterhold that has details. There's a note in the Thieves Guild Cistern that mentions a shipwreck. I have a marker for this, but now I'm not sure. LOL

if true It might be complete his questline and have him as a follower if you want... Which would be good for a thief/stealth character.

from my understanding that is a negative.. so there may be something there.. If you have a letter example (name) I can look it up in the table of contents in my kindle.

I love that wiki at UESP... here's the note I was referring to: "No Word Yet"

When asked about his name, Rune mentions that he was found by a shipwreck with a rune on a stone.

Can't remember whether it was the note or the conversation leading to getting the miscellaneous quest

On a side note (hehe) that note is not in my Kindle so it looks like I only have all the "books".

It is possible that it's connected to a future DLC but i'm not quite certain yet. Just like in Oblivion there was signs of Sheogorath and The Knights Of The Nine. But i am hoping to find out his real name sometime in the future.

I have scale-itch... Don't ask how I got it.
You can find the info in a shipwreck. I forgot which one exactly I'll look it up in a bit.

The journal TalynJayde was referring to, in a previous post, is Lymdrenn Tenvanni's Journal.

Brandyl,
I hope this text of your father's last words finds its way to your hands. I served House Telvanni as a wet nurse during your first months of life and wanted to repay your father's kindness. I've done all I can to locate you, but I regret that we'll never meet face-to-face.

4E 6 Second Seed, Middas
Is this the end of all things? Are we to die by the cruel barbed blades of the Argonian invasion force? After surviving the Red Year, struggling to dig from the ash and the rubble, and burying the thousands that died, is this to be our epitaph? The irony of our demise glows brighter than Masser on the summer solstice. We brought this upon ourselves; the Argonians simply answering a rallying cry incited by a millennia of suffrage imposed by my kind. And so here I sit, in the crumbling basement of our family home while a thousand thousand booted feet echo above me and the screams of the dying find their way to my ears. So falls House Telvanni.

But then I look into the eyes of this child, this blessing given to us the very year that Vvardenfell spouted its fiery death across the land; this gift I hold my grasp. Is it too much to wish he be given the chance to survive and keep our memories alive? This small boy born in the midst of chaos and destruction must carry on. If nothing else, as a reminder to the other dunmer that the Telvanni were once a proud and noble people.

Since the death of my wife, I haven't been able to bring myself to give my son a proper name. It never felt right without her. But my own life reaches its final hours as the luxury of time is escapes my embrace. I name him now: Brandyl, son of Lymdrenn and sole living heir to House Telvanni. I will wrap him in his t'lonya, his birthing swaddle and leave his fate to Azura's will.
Live with virtue and pride, sera.

The regular entry for Lymdreen Tenvanni on that wiki says:
http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Lymdrenn_Telvanni

His son, Brand-Shei, resides in Riften in Skyrim, and is unaware of who his parents are (note the Argonian sounding name- he was raised by Argonians after they destroyed House Telvanni). The Dragonborn uncovers his history in a miscellaneous quest.

But it doesn't give any specifics about the quest. I have the journal in my inventory, it is a quest item and I can't drop it. I got it before meeting Brand-Shei, aka Rune, so that might be the problem as I've read about other quests that break if you get the quest item before the quest. Though many of those have solutions to the problem that involve using console commands to force the dropping of the item so that you can pick it back up which fixes it. This entry doesn't even mention a specific quest let alone a bug list for it.

Brand-Shei is NOT RUNE. Brand-Shei is a Dunmer vendor in Riften's Marketplace. Rune is a member of the Thieves Guild, he does NOT, to my knowledge, ever appear above ground. House Telvanni is a famous family in Morrowind.

If you initiate conversation with BRAND-SHEI, he will tell you that he is looking for information about his past and starts a Misc. quest to find that book in the wreckage.

Speaking with Rune doesn't initiate any quests that I'm aware of.

This is the contents of the note:
Rune,
I've used every source at my disposal and I still can't find a trace of your parents. Whoever they are, they've completely erased themselves from history. This is quite a feat considering the quality of my sources. If I come up with anything else, I'll be certain to contact you.

It'd be cool if there was a quest, but to be honest I don't think there is. I think they just wanted to give the members of the Thieves Guild interesting backstories. Plus if there was a quest it might seem a little repetitive after Brand-Shei's quest.

I certainly wouldn't mind learning more about Rune, but I think they were just trying to give the Thieves Guild characters some mystery about; make them seem more likely to turn to the life of a thief or something. :p

or it could be an option for a DLC story involvoing the thievies guild later on.

I don't know if anybody has answered this yet or not, but I think Rune is an Easter Egg. There's a scene in the movie Spaceballs where Lone Starr tells basically the same story. There are lots of Easter Eggs in Skyrim; this may be one. I've looked everywhere and haven't found anything else remotely resembling a clue.

i checked multiple forums and nobody can seem to find anything more then the rune rune was talking about i dont know there arent any ships with information about rune near solitude so i gues all we can do is hope they bring out DLC about it
