With a high enchanting skill and the right enchantments you can create a suit of armor that will give you the same attributes that a high level robe does. Is there any reason why you would chose a robe over a suit of enchanted armor?

nope. unless you just really want to be in character and not use armor out of principle, I don't see any reason why choose cloth over enchanted armor.

Perhaps if one is into roleplay and wants to stay true to their character, they will choose robes over armor, as tenkesh stated. Some might choose robes purely for aesthetic purposes as well (they might like the way robes look on their particular character over armor).

Playing as a destruction mage I got tired of being one-shotted by anyone with a heavy weapon. If the robes gave a boost to spell power rather than just magicka reserves then I would probably have persevered, but they dont. My mage now has full heavy armour, well enchanted, of course, low health, low stamina and super high magicka reserves. There really is no penalty for a mage in heavy armour as long as you spend the time on the enchanting tree.

How effective is the mage armor perk?

I'm like that, I have another character of khajiit wihich is mage... and he looks awsome in robe without hood! :)

My first character has a glass armor... kinda looks like transformer. Maybe I'll change to elven guilded armor.

I have a Khajiit mage as well that wears robes! ^_^ It just feels "right" to have her wearing them. When I put armor on her in the past, I felt like some sort of bulky gladiator which wasn't what I was going for at all. Robes give her a more wise and scholarly appearance.

If I knew how to make pictures which would have less mb I would post it to show my Khajiit.

I wish there was a way I could clearly take pictures of my characters too. I'm on an xbox so I can't really get pictures unless I use a camera of some sort and those never turn out great. I hope one day in the future you can get some pictures though! I'm sure your Khajiit is awesome :D

Please do! I always love looking at others Khajiit characters. It's hard to find any that look the same because of all the marking and color options available. I tried my hardest to make mine look like a snow leopard. And you're very welcome! :)

I like robes more just because you aren't weighed down by armor, and if you're ninja like me, armor makes a lot of noise when you're sneaking. It also allows you to carry much more. Also the mage armor thing is nice too, but i really havn't had to use that much.

Some mages use robes at low level and then switch later on when they get daedric and all that. I play a battlemage so naturally I use armour.

This will be me im a mage in robes level 29 i don't plan on grinding any skills till alot later. So my 100% magica regen and the destruction boosts on the robes are worth it but as you said,
later when i am i higher level with higher enchanting and smithing i may go this route.

Armor is Overrated; Mage Armor Perk usually shoots up with Ebonyflesh to like 300 armor rating (which is about 45-50% damage reduction towards physical) then if you have Lord Stone then you can further reduce the damage taken. Saving the perk pts. from being wasted in the armor trees. Or if you really went ALL magicka in your level ups; Dragonhide is a nasty Spell, about 300 magicka = 80% physical dmg reduction which IS CAP for 30 secs or 1 min if you dual cast.

As far as robes go, are there any better than Archmage? It looks like crap IMO. Using your own enchant from a robe you only get like 25% reduced cost and 15% mana regen, then another mana regen enchant, it still isn't as good.
I use only robes, 300 armor is fine, I kill giants pretty easily still.

You can gety Master Robes of whatver you specialise in if you want; but if you're an all rounded mage then Arch Mage robes are fine. But you're right though. Enchanting armour doesn't give you the full bonuses that you would get from robes.
