    A Brute among Beasts
(OOC: Sorry im a bit controlling here but when i get my next post up i think you'll be glad.)

Brendela couldent help but panic when she noticed not all the thralls died with the vampire lord, which indicated that they were under the control of somebody else, possibly the "infiltrator". As Savos's atronach collapsed into a pile of ice, Brendela almost collapsed to the floor, less out of pain but more so out of sorrow. If one pure-blood could cause this much damage, a whole council would be suicidal to fight. The very thought of it was depressing.
"I hope you didn't want to interrogate it more, but I don't think we could have gotten it back in that cage,"

Brendela didnt care, for she had just noticed the remains of J'zargo, a Khajjit mage who had died casting a cloak speel he had created. The thralls hadnt been picky about how they'd gone inhumeing everybody. Not having a speech planned, Brendela heard the nord speak again.

    "So...who wants a drink?"

Trying not to wrinkle her face in disgust, for the mercenary hated alcohol, she looked up and saw one of the man asking about healing the remaining pillars start to crumble. Quickly pointing towards the door that led back to the barracks, She stated the obvious.
    'Run!'
Seeing Savos push his way to his feet, she nudged Ralyx in the direction of the book carrier, he grudgingly picked the man up and began running to the exit along with the two girls, they made it out of the barracks and into the cold air as the entire building collapsed.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

As the dust settled Brendela breathed a sigh of relief. All the people had been led outside by Leo and the human guards. As she turned around, she saw Ralyx, The mace-wielding nord, her fellow archer, the spellsword and his new friend, and the book carrier.

    But somebody hadn't.

    'Savos?...' she whispered.

Brynne blinked awkwardly, trying to clear his eyes and brain enough to look around the area and get his bearings. From the looks of things they'd won the battle but not without losses of their own. Several people around were covered in dust or wounds, and some he just didn't see at all. Among the missing was the very man who'd hauled him to safety. Most likely he was just off helping someone else, but something filled him with an impending sense of dread.

Leo finished treating the wounded, then went to see what was going on inside. As he walked, the stench of blood got stronger. He walked in, only to find a few survivors. He looked around, then started tending to the injuries of these who needed him. He looked at the woman who was in charge with the mage.

Leo: I want a full status report. How many are dead, injured, and how many survivors. I also want a full detailed report on what just happened down there.

Egil sat there on his knees, looking at the dirt. He coughed, then spit out a mouthful of blood. One of thralls got him pretty good in the mouth.

The entire building had collapsed. If someone couldn't make it out, they were surely dead.

He looked over to a delusional man standing at the rubble asking nobody for a status report. He laughed. "Haha. You alright there Leo?" He said with a smile.

Rising to his feet, he began to heal himself and looked around. Others were covered in dust, and some in blood. Some injuries were worse than others. Then a horrifying thought occurred to him.

    "Everyone! Check for bite marks!"

Amy looked around at the remains of the city. She coughed from the dust as the only building that had remained in decent condition after the dragon attack fell. She had tried not to look around on her way in, but now she felt like she didn't have much choice. The tavern, the stables, the forge...all unrecognizable. This was old news to everyone, but this was the first time Amy had returned since she had left when she was 18. She had swore to herself that night she would never return, and it seemed the gods were going to make her stand by her word, in a way. She would never know now what had become of her friends, the townspeople, or her mother even if she wanted to. It was a lot to wrap her head around.

"Everyone! Check for bite marks!" The yell brought her out of her own world. Her head had a few scratches from where the vampire had grabbed her, but no bites. She didn't think it would have mattered anyway. She approached the woman who had been in charge while they were inside. "I'll help wherever you need me," Amy told her absentmindedly.

    "Everyone! Check for bite marks!"

The man named Egil had a panicing look on his face, and this made Ralyx laught silently. The crowd around him were injured and filled with blood. "I would follow Egils tip if I were you." He said with a smile. "Many of you were awfully close to those beasts." Ralyx shaked of the dust from his red hood before he walked over to Che'anni.

"So, you wondered what a man like myself is doing here?" He said as he looked her straight into the eyes. "Well, the world is falling under the control of vampires, and everyone would wish to change that. But wishing doesn't make you a hero, does it? No. I'm here to become that hero." He gave her a gentle wink and smiled with his white teeth.

"Now Brendela. Where's the old gentleman?"

Varian looked towards an exit. It was far off and if he could make it, it would be a close call. Varian's legs started moving as if on their own accord and just as he was about to reach the great outdoors, a heavy stone fell on his leg, crushing it in the process. The stone must've come from the roof itself as Varian hadn't noticed it before. With speed and strength he didn't know he possessed, he flipped the rock over, freeing his crushed limb. Then, using the last ounce of magicka he had left, he started the process of healing the broken leg. However, he realized he didn't have enough time to heal the leg completely. He would have to run with it like it was.

As he ran the rest of the way he noticed one of the college mages. He couldn't see who it was, as chaos was enveloping the building and the few people left in the crumbling building were running, but he did notice the mage's injuries. Whoever it was, was crawling on the floor, the mage had no legs to speak of. Those were under a stone behind the mage. Just as Varian started to limp towards the mage, another stone from the ruined roof fell on the mage's spine. The mage screamed one long wretched howl, and eventually died. Varian could do nothing but watch in horror as he heard the pain and suffering in the mage's voice.

Varian, shocked and appalled, ran out of the keep. He ignored his pain and managed to run at full speed out into the world. The fight against the vampires was no longer about taking a vacation to Elsweyr. Varian vowed that he would avenge that mage's life.

Varian was brought out of his thoughts by a pain in his leg. He remembered what happened and as he remembered the pain grew stronger. Soon he was on the ground nearly screaming in his pain, but the pain grew only more terrible and he soon passed out.

Che'anni looked over at Ralyx and then silently murmured, "At least some people care for the safety of this realm even if he is trying to seek fame."
Che'anni remembered what she heard earlier and started to look at her arms and legs for bite marks but she would have to do another one later, just to be safe. Che'anni looked over at the Entrance and noticed the Imperial spellsword screaming before he passed out and Che'anni ran over to him, "We need help somebody seemed to have been injured and I think its Varian." If she remembered that was his name, she laid Varian on his back before lifting his head and placing her pack under it, his head was now elevated. She looked over at his leg where the injury seemed to originate from, "Wow this kid is lucky to be alive, he seems to have tried to heal himself but instead took all he had to escape but by doing so his wound seems to have gotten worse," Che'anni thought to herself before reaching for some water and bandage, when he awakes he can drink a healing potion that will help. Che'anni carefully cleaned the wound and wrapped it up to stop him from bleeding out and then she felt a tap on her back and then Che'anni said, "Finally, some help," but never turned to look who it was.

Many people were calling out, but she couldent hear them. All she could think about was Savos, and all the others that she had known that the vampires had killed. But now shw knew something.

She had been wrong earlier, Savos hadnt tortured the night spawn enough, and he had suffered for it.
But Brendela wasnt going to make the same mistake. The volkihars were going to suffer for what had happened here, that was to be her vow.

But as her concentration retreated back into the world, she saw lots of people staring at her expectantly. Knowing that order's were to be expected of a leader, she began to swallow the metaphoric butterflies in her stomach and adressed the assembled group.
There was quite a lot of them...
'We need a new base of operations. We- we head to Falkreath, and destroy the minor group of vampires ruling there. undoubtably the survivors there will join our cause. From there we will start taking back the hold capitals'.
That was all she had. Social skills were not her thing, she had always been used to relative seclusion. Not waiting to see if anybody was following her, she walked out of the ruined city, tring to withstand the cold and tears.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

Savos was suffering from internal blood loss. He doubted it would be fatal, but he would suffocte before escaping the collapsed building. Magical suspension could help, but his magical strength was limited. What annoyed him the most was the fact that if he was one of those undead bloodsuckers he could get out of here, no problem.
Little did he know that his falsh wish was to come true...

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

They dare to collapse this pile of rocks on me!
Orthjolf refolded his dented wings, slowly and painfully and shrank back into his human nord form. The illusion copy of himself had drained him a lot, and then the chamber had caved in on itself. That had hurt too. But now, as his torn vampire robes began their magical regeneration, he saw the elf, lying in a corner. Barely conscious, but alive. The one who had tortured him for so long...

Picking up a blade somebody had dropped, he advanced on the man with uncanny speed, resurecting the numerous bodies in the room with the runes on his cloak as he went.

The man saw him coming, and with a loud groan forced himself to his feet. Weakly launching a fireball at the vampire, which was knocked out of the way with a flick of the vampires newfound blade, Savos began a ward spell quickly. With a flick of his sharp instrument orthjolf sliced through the magical barrier as if it was not even there. The dunmer mage fell to the floor, coughing up blood as his ribs broke into pieces from the attack.
Orthjolf was about to descend on his newfound dinner, but a shadowy figure blocked his path. He couldent see who it was, but he could tell it was one of his fellow vampires.

The figure remained in the shadows, but Orthjolf guessed it was the mysterious 'infiltrator' he had heard about. It was strange, he had heard Savos talking about this character before with the mercenary, but Harkon had never offically launched an infiltration of the college.

'Stand back underling, this is my feast!'
The figure replied, and he took into account that the voice sounded feminine.
'Harkon has personally asked for this elf. Would you choose to go against his will?'
Orthjolf didnt believe this for a second, but he remembered the last person who had turned on harkon; his own daughter in fact, had ended up dead and mutilated by the councils hounds. Getting revenge on the elf was tempting, but his own conscious came first. Giving the shadowy figure a murderous glare, he dissapitated into a colony of bats and began to make his way back toi volkihar castle. With a loud thud, the thralls within the room collapsed to the floor, now empty carcasses.

Sensing the pure-bloods presence no more, the figure turned to the wounded man, who gasped; slightly in pain, but more at the sight of Brelyna Maryon.
'We must hurry Savos, Harkon will soon learn of this trickery'.

Brendala didn't bother to see if anyone was following her. Amy looked around at the survivors. There were a few people who couldn't follow her even if they wanted to their injuries were so great. There was a man with a crushed leg, but a woman was taking care of him. There was another man with a hurt arm. They would just have to catch up--Amy wasn't going to wait for them, either.

Out on the road, Amy could sense Brendala's anger, or fear, or whatever sort of upset feeling she had. She knew not everyone had made it out, so she thought Who are we missing? Then it hit her. The arch-mage.

Amy's stomach growled loudly. "Sorry," she apologized, a little embarrassed. Most people would have lost their appetite after a scene like that, but Amy was always hungry. And blood wasn't something she thought was gross. Maybe tonight she would go hunting. She wasn't sure how long it had been since she had hunted. With the sun being gone, it was hard to tell how much time had passed since anything.
Then she heard it--the sing-songy howl of wolves. Three of them. They were running towards them, but just before they pounced, Amy growled back at them. She looked the leader straight in the eyes. He and his pack stopped dead in their tracks. His glare was no less menacing, but they had stopped nonetheless. They looked back at each other, still growling for a few seconds, but it seemed like longer. Eventually it began to back away, and its pack members followed the motion. They were all still growling, but they did not stop moving until they thought they were hidden behind a tree. Amy knew she would be getting some weird looks. She didn't really care, since she was sure that wasn't the scariest thing they had seen all day.

    "Everyone! Check for bite marks!"

Brynne knew better than to take the chance of being cursed lightly, so he obeyed the instructions. He was careful to favor his arm, and not worsen his injury. Satisfied he'd not taken on the curse, he reached into his bag and drew out another volume. this one had the deformed tree he barely recognized, but the name of the spell was simple enough. 'Detect Life'.

Determined to help in anyway he could, Brynne spread the book open and let the magic flow through him. Despite his pain and fatigue, he found the spell was easier to absorb than the previous one. It was still mentally draining, and somehow he knew that the spell would only last a matter of seconds before completely draining him of his remaining strength. If it saved a life, though, it would be well worth it.

He couldn't see the change to his eyes, but the world exploded in a new brilliance of colors and hues. All around him auras of blue milled around asking questions, talking, and giving aide. Within the rubble, though, he was able to see only red outlines; very few and none seemed to move in his brief glimpse. His vision returned to normal, and as predicted his body was shivering from exertion. While helpful, that spell seemed to be beyond his abilities to use well.

'We need a new base of operations. We- we head to Falkreath, and destroy the minor group of vampires ruling there. Undoubtedly the survivors there will join our cause. From there we will start taking back the hold capitals'.

At first Brynne thought to tell the others of the enemies still alive in the fort, but without support from their comrades they'd be dead in ours. As thralls to his enemies, they deserved a slow death and he was determined to give it to them. Instead he pulled a strip of cloth from a nearby body, used it to bind his arm, and rose to follow his new allies.

So far as plans went, killing an entire hold's worth of vampires and claiming it as their own wasn't the worst he'd heard that evening. After all, how did one top heading straight into Oblivion itself?

Varian's eyes slowly lifted, and as they did he saw a beautiful Imperial girl come into focus. She was standing over him, apparently aiding him, as there was a healing potion near him. Varian guzzled the healing potion with gusto, then took out his own. It wasn't a healing potion but a magicka potion. He drank that as well, recovered his magicka, and began to heal himself.

He felt the tingle and dull pain often accompanied with healing a major wound. Not that he was often in such dire straights but it did happen from time to time. Once he was done healing he looked up at the girl in front of him and said, "I know of a few ways to think you, but I'm not sure you'll want the others to watch," He said this with a wink and smile.

He then started walking next to the group. Besides the girl no one had helped him, he would be sure to return the favor. He knew why they were headed to Falkreath but he didn't like it. He hoped that they wouldn't have to put innocent lives on the line like that. He hoped there was another way.

Egil walked, quite a distance from the rest of the group headed to Falkreath. Now what? I headed here to gather some allies to help me get to Solitude, and we're going south rather than north... As much as he hated to admit it, he had come to like this group. The little interaction he had with others was enjoyable, and most of them seemed like good people.

The images of his fallen comrades flashed before his eyes. Curse these vampires. He thought to himself. Comrades? Did he just consider them comrades? And with that he felt a sort of an allegiance to these people. Maybe it was time to forget this quest to find his father. What good would it do anyway? He would meet his father, then what? He couldn't kill him. Yell at him?

He looked up at the sky. It had been a while since anyone had seen sunlight. It was always dark and impossible to tell time. Was it day or night? How much time has passed since this whole thing started? How long before it ended? They had a plan, but it was crazy. Going into Volkihar Castle, crazy. And going into oblivion, insane. The group couldn't split up. It would take the night of everyone together to take on oblivion, no matter how strong everyone though they were.

An imperial walked past Egil and he realized that he had been walking slow. It was the imperial that had tried hitting on him. He laughed. Egil certainly wasn't homosexual or bi, but that doesn't mean he couldn't make a friend. With a short jog he caught up to the imperial. "Hey. Varian right? Sorry we were interrupted earlier. Damn vampires." He smiled.

"Hey. Varian right? Sorry we were interrupted earlier. Damn vampires."

"Yes, I'm sorry too. It was certainly a brutal battle wasn't it? Outnumbered, walls started crumbling, and that smell... terrible," Varian said this in almost a daze, as if he was reliving the battle as he described it. Then, he snapped back to reality and looked the man in the eyes. He asked, "So what was it that you did before you joined this ragtag group of adventurers and heroes?" Varian returned to his normal, cheery, self. As he waited for the reply he looked around. The group was in a forest, it wasn't like they were completely out in the open, but he didn't like it. The vampires could easily have an ambush prepared, the foliage and trees could easily allow it. As if to say, "Don't go any further, you're about to get surrounded," a horrific wind shook the trees and rattled leaves from their homes on their branches.

Egil noticed Varians worried looked. "Don't worry." He said. "We should be safe from any attacks here." That's what he said out loud, just to calm the imperial and anyone else who might have heard. Really he was a bit worried himself. That sort of noise was surely to attract attention and anything that was to arrive at Helgen could easily trace this large group of the resistance.

"I was trying to find someone. I actually I came here in hope to get some allies to get me to Solitude, but I've sorta decided that you guys are going to need all the help you can get it." He looked up at the sky. "It was a lost cause anyway...and what about you?" He said, shaking off the overwhelming sadness that came over him as he though of his failure.

Amy looked around the group. Many of them had found friends to talk to over the short journey to Falkreath. Amy just walked quietly, trying not to attract too much attention. A very different demeanor than she would have been before her three or four years alone in the woods.
But the ordeal with the wolves reminded Amy of something; she could not enter a city run by vampires. They would be able to pick her out as easily as she could them. She wasn't sure how well-guarded the city was, but she knew it wouldn't be long before she was found. It would put the rest of the group in greater danger, too. Amy approached Brendala.
"I'm sorry, but I can't go into the town. I can explain another time, but it would be a big risk for me to just stroll on in there with you. I still want to be a part of this group, and I want to help drive the vampires out of this city. But I can't stay with you until they are driven out. I'll stay nearby, and we can make a signal for when you want me to join you. Otherwise, I'll be out here."
They were not within sight of the town yet, but she knew they were getting close. "Just let me know what you want me to do."

Che'anni looked down at her handy work before being interrupted by Varian waking up, he took out what happened to be a magicka potion and gulped it down, he looked at Che'anni and said.
"I know of a few ways to think you, but I'm not sure you'll want the others to watch,"
Che'anni blushed at that comment but before she could respond Varian then stood up and walked away although he still seemed to be dazed from his loss of blood.

Looking behind her a guard stood motionless and Che'anni wondered if it was the same person that had tapped her on her back, maybe he was maybe he wasn't, "Can I help you with something?" She asked him, the guard quickly snapped out of his dream state and replied,"No, its just I'm rather shocked at whats happened, most of my friends were turned into thanes and were just killed. I sure was lucky to never be down there in that torture chamber before or I would of been a helpless mindless husk doing whatever that vampire commands."
Che'anni picked up her pack and quickly searched and then pulled out a bottle of mead before she gave it to the guard who seemed was shivering, "Here I'm sure this will calm you down and also warm you up," The guard took the bottle and muttered ,"Thanks," before heading off.

Che'anni collected herself before turning to the road of Falkreath and muttered,"Plenty of the dead there," before she walked down the cobble path looking around, she noticed the chilly breeze and that many of the surviving people were quite ahead of her.

Brynne watched his travelling companions closely, trying desperately to block the fatigue and pain from his mind. Trying, and failing.

Everything just hurt. It'd been weeks since he'd slept in a bed, potentially days since he'd slept at all. He had no doubts he was starting to become malnourished, and his blasted arm was actually managing to get worse. The only things going right were his newly found magics, and judging from the pounding of his head learning them had come at a price. Yet he would need more if he was going to survive the trials to come, much less achieve his goals.

Immediately he reached into the back and drew out another book, this one also covered in the strange symbol that had granted him altered vision earlier. 'Equilibrium' the spell was called, and as Brynne studied the pages he saw nothing of particular benefit. Sacrificing his own life for a little more magic seemed counterproductive, but he wasn't in a position to turn down a free spell of any sort, and consuming the magic of the tome would at least reduce the weight in his bag.

Bracing his mind, Brynne absorbed the magic into himself, immediately fighting to the urge to blackout from the in-pour of knowledge. He was forced to drop to his knees, the realization that his body was simply too broken to push any further slowly sinking in. The pain from his arm was weakening his will and making the tomes more costly then he knew the should have been.

As his eyes cleared from the haze of pain at last, he cleared his throat and looked out to his companions.
'My arm... if we're going to be fighting, I'll need it healed to be of any use...'

She heard the moans of her allies, and knew that barely anyone would reach falkreath if they did not rest and recuperate. quickly scaning round for a closed place, hard to find but large enough to set up shop for everybody.
Seeing a light coming from a small house up on a hill, she looked past it and saw a small plot of land; It rested on a slope, and would be a tactical advantage. The nearby lake would help too.

Seeing her fellow fighter stare down a pack of wolves, she smiled. The girl was slightly older than her, but she seemed reliable and strong. There seemed to be a side of her that she was not showing though...

"I'm sorry, but I can't go into the town. I can explain another time, but it would be a big risk for me to just stroll on in there with you. I still want to be a part of this group, and I want to help drive the vampires out of this city. But I can't stay with you until they are driven out. Jitters were to be expected, but the girl seemed to be withholding information. Brendela wasnt too bothered, Now her rage was wearing off she saw the size of taking back the hold. Now she thought about it, the attack might have to be a stealthy one.
"dont worry, we'll plan more in the morning, i think we all need some sleep" She said this to the entire group, and gestured towards the hilltop she had seen moments ago. Checking to make sure nobody was lagging, she saw injured being helped by the more fortunate survivors. Smiling on the inside, for Brendela couldent have asked for a better group, she walked over to a pile of logs fleeing refugees had left behind. Thanking the divines for the wood, she set it alight with a weak fire spell her dad had taught her. Inviting everybody over, she pulled out a bedroll and climbed inside, not bothering to take off her armour.
'Everybody who's not injured get some rest- she gestured towards the few surviving medics- and if you are, these guys & gals will help you. Volunteers are appreciated, but im not one to enforce'.
Then she began to close her eyes and drift off.
