This is a restart of Reforging an Empire. The old thread and OOC can now be archived.

Ulfric and his Stormcloaks have won the Civil War, freeing Skyrim from the Empire and breaking the shackles of the Imperial Legion. The victory was celebrated all over Skyrim as the Empire and the Thalmor were cast out and peace finally returned to the land. Ulfric now sits on the throne as High King of Skyrim with all of the Jarls, old and new, swearing fealty to him. However, all is not well. Non-Nords are subjugated and persecuted in the name of purity. All that do not leave Skyrim are thrown into ghettos across the holds. The Grey Quarter in Windhelm has been put under martial law after a failed uprising. Worst of all, the bodies of General Tullius and Legate Rikke have been shamefully treated. Ulfric turns a blind eye to all of this while maintaining his noble image, dismissing the injustices as necissairy steps to secure his kingdom.

This policy of indiffernce, as well as the shameful treatment of two of the Empire's greatest heroes, has shocked not only imperial loyalists, but many of Ulfric's own soldiers. Many Stormcloaks were men and women who wanted a free, independent Skyrim, not a cruel and bloody regime that violently stamps out all who oppose it. Many now see that they were wrong to follow Ulfric and cannot bear the sight of Tullius and Rikke's headless bodies hanging from Solitude's gates, preserved to last forever and their heads adorning Ulfric's throne wall.

A resistance movement has formed, consisting of both Stormcloaks and Legion soldiers, along with those who fought and followed Ulfric during the war. Their goal is to rescue the bodies of General Tullius and Legate Rikke, return them to Cyrodiil to recieve proper treatment and return to Skyrim to stop the monster they helped create.

    Rules:
    1. No godding. (That means no super-duper Nirn killing powers, character ideas, abilities or anything else that ruins other people's fun. If you're not sure if your idea crosses the line, please ask.)
    2. No Thu'ums (I'm afraid none of us are the Dragonborn and none of us were trained by the Greybeards.)
    3. Master-level skills and spells are fine, but please keep rule number 1 in mind.
    4. Please try and keep cursing and lewd speech to a minimum in the RP itself. I don't care what you guys do in the OOC chat (this thread here).
    5. Make all of your posts at least a paragraph (Five sentences.) and please try to post every other day. More is better. Anyone who does not post for two weeks or more and has not posted a reason why will be considered inactive and have their character suffer a terrible death at the claws of a thousand mudcrabs be parked somewhere for when and if they decide to come back.
    6. If you know you have an upcoming commitment, you get bored with the RP, life hijaks you or you become otherwise unable to post for an extended number of days, please let us know in the OOC chat or PM me. That way the group knows what's going on with you, we can park you somewhere until you get back, and the story can move along smoothly. More importantly, you don't get badgered about where you are and you can do whatever it is you have to do in peace.
    7. I will start this RP when we have 4-6 people, but it will remain open. If you're new and you wish to join, please introduce yourself and submit a character card. You must also provide a generous sample of your own roleplaying along with your character card. This can be something you've written before or something new. Whichever gives you less of a migrane. This includes everyone from the old story in the intererst of fairness. Also, please note which color you want your dialogue to be. Colors are first come first served. NPC's will be standard gray unless Sheogorath deems otherwise.
    8. You may have one or two characters in this RP and any NPC's you feel would add to the story. However, please take note of who is doubling up on characters before doing so yourself and be mindful of how it would affect the group. A 20 man party over 10 members is a bit unwieldy. If you need to drop a character because two is too hard to manage, that's fine. Just let us know.
    9. Have fun! This is the most importaint rule. If you have any questions about anything, plese speak up.
All of the above rules are common sense stuff. I don't think anything is too hard to follow. If I forgot to address anything, please let me know.

    Name: Barnan Frand

    Race: Breton

    Gender: Male

    Class: Ranger

    Age: 35

    Looks:

Personality: Courageous, Cautious, Cunning. He has all the aspects of a ranger that you'd expect, yet...more. No matter what he's been through, there's always been one sure thing on his side.....luck.

Weapons: He is faithful to his Longsword, Gladius, and his Bow, Geldain. He uses both very effectively and very often. He also carries up to four small, but deadly, throwing daggers.

Fighting Style: He fights cautiously yet strategically. He has lead, started, and over all, won, many battles. He mainly prefers the shadows to the direct approach. "Easier, saves on both time and men. Even a blind old man would know this."

Skills: He,as you can guess,is a Master of Archery, Expert of One-Handed, Journeyman of Sneak, and Adept of Light Armor.

Bio: He was born and raised in High Rock,in a village near The City Of Daggerfall. He had a very serious childhood, mostly because his father told him of his future as a soldier. So the days went on,long and brutal, but he endured and sometimes, thrived,in this driving chaos. When he came of age,eight-teen,he was sent to Daggerfall city to serve as a guard. He was trained for two long months, along with twenty other men. Some failed ,and were sent back to their homes, drenched in mud, sweat, and anger. Others, like him, passed all the trials, and rose, victorious.

After serving five years,he received a letter saying that he,and five others, had been selected to join the King's Personal Protection. They arrived in the hall and were immediatly trained further, learning skills they had all never known existed. For another two months,he and the other five trained in the special arts of force. He and the others had only been serving five years, when a group of Rangers attacked the city. Gothryd, the king, Called them to his service, and they arrived shortly before the main hall was breached. They had only time to draw their swords, before they men crowded the throne room and began killing. Barnan could only watch as the others fell and His king was ravagely beheaded. He was taken captive, and trained by the rangers. After his training, which took two years, he was thrown in with other trainee rangers, and they were all forced to fight. "Survive," they said,"And you will complete your training,Die and we throw your body to the wolves." Barnan mad it to the last round, with only him,an Argonian, and an Imperial. They all fought well, but not well enough. Scarred but victorious,Barnan left the arena and hopefully the life of the ranger.

But,his past hunted him,so did the rangers. And when they found him,he made a daring escape and Assassinated their captain. The leader was furious,to say the very, very least, and he routed all his forces to Barnan's location. So with the help of a local village,he raided,or breached at least, the citadel. Many were slaughtered and the rest fell back, but they had bought Barnan enough time to reach the Leader's office. From there,he barley escaped, but he wounded the leader greatly and forced him to flee. So he tracked him,for five years he tracked him,all the way to Skyrim.

He sighed, seeing the vast, chaotic province. He checked his quiver, readied his sword, and crossed the south entrance, into skyrim.

Quote: I am a fighter. I believe in that which is right, and the truth is,i have been the Lone Ranger for the past Five years and i will not give up the fight, not yet.

    Name: Simus Psyrakon
    Race: Imperial
    Gender: Male
    Age: early fifties (Approximately 52)
    Class: Spellsword

Looks: 5' 7" Caucasian with an average build. His body is covered in scars but in excellent shape considering its age. He has shoulder length straight silver hair and a warm smile on his face. His left eye is blind and he has four large scars running from the top of the eye to the bottom of his left cheek. The scars were given to him by a particularly nasty high elf wielding a particularly nasty lightning-enchanted claw during the Great War.

Personality: Simus has all the grace and refinement that would be expected from an Imperial and as such is a persuasive speaker. He's a kind and generous man who deftly mixes the energy of youth and the experience of age. Service in the Legion during the Great War, as well as decades of adventuring have let Simus experience a great many things and he is eager to teach others that seek guidance. Simus feels that the current Empire is not the one he fought for thirty years ago: It's become intolerant, corrupt, and it has allowed Cyrodiil, its heart and his home, to become ravaged with strife. He cannot in good conscience defend this Empire, and he sees the Stormcloaks as a force of renewal, rather than destruction. As such, he himself is an active Stormcloak and has a true desire to help them liberate Skyrim. He, Ulfric Stormcloak and Galmar Stone-fist are all served in the Legion together during the war and have managed to stay in touch over the years. Simus and General Tullius are also old legion friends, but they haven’t spoken much since Ulfric killed High King Torygg and they found each other on opposite sides. Simus is glad to be fighting alongside old friends again, but he’s leery of Ulfric’s motives, and believes the he can be a good High King only with proper guidance. However, Simus still believes Skyrim’s liberation from the Empire to be its salvation, not its damnation. One Skyrim is free, it can help to do away with the old empire and create a new one, just as Tiber Septem did during the second era.

On the battlefield, Simus is fiercely protective of the soldiers under his command. This has earned him their absolute loyalty, and he feels like a father to many of the younger men and women under his command. He grieves for every imperial brother and sister he kills however, seeing it as wasted blood when the Thalmor are the real enemy. He knows that the Stormcloaks and the Legion are going to need each other, regardless of who wins this war, when the second Great War inevitably occurs.

Combat Prefs: Simus has been interested in learning, enchanting and magic since he was a boy, and this interest blossomed into real talent during his teen years. When he joined the Legion, he learned how to smith and how to fight, finding out that the studies of a mage and the drills of a soldier required very similar discipline and focus. During the war, he found he could use both steel and magic to become a cunning and creative warrior. If engaging a ranged or hard to reach enemy, Simus will use lightning spells augmented with both hands to slay his enemies. In melee combat, he uses his two ebony swords Ashes and Cinders and The Chill of Death to quickly and violently slay enemies. His suit of Stormcloak Blue dragonplate armour, supported by magika-augmenting jewelry, keeps him protected. He forges and enchants all of his own equipment and repairs many of his soldiers' gear to keep his skills sharp. His skills in restoration magic are moderate at best, a far cry from those of a dedicated healer, but he's skilled enough to heal most common battlefield wounds and he practices whenever he can.

Skills: One handed (Master), Destruction (Master), Heavy armor (Master) Smithing (Master), Enchanting (Master), restoration (apprentice), illusion (courage, light and volume spells only, apprentice), two handed (adept), speech (adept). All other skills he's just okay at. He's a terrible archer.

Misc: Simus is a devout worshipper of Talos and he and his family took their worship underground when the Great War ended and Thalmor oppression in Cyrodiil began. His wife Amy was a Blade who had outlived her order and left it behind after she married Simus. One year before Alduin’s attack on Helgan he and his family were found out. They escaped their home in the Imperial City with the Thalmor hot on their heels. When they reached Bruma, the contact who was supposed to book passage for them to Skyrim sold them out to the city guards. Rather than be handed over to the elves by his own Imperial brothers, Simus decided to fight his way out. He had made many friends all over Cyrodill during his career as an adventurer and his service in the Legion, so a great many rose up to help him and his family escape. What followed was a bloody street battle that resulted in their escape, but not before the Thalmor caught up with them. On the slopes of the Jerrall Mountains, the Psyrakon family made its last stand. Simus’ wife sacrificed herself so that the rest of her family could cross the border, fighting with the might of a mother and the skill only the Blades could have. After seeing his mother ran through, Simus’s youngest son Titus flew into a rage and attacked the elves. Simus and his older son Stephen tried to hold him back while his two daughters, Alice and Cilla, tried in vain to save their mother, but it was too late. Simus ordered his children to run and hide and Titus, Stephen and Cilla did as their father commanded. Alice however stayed behind and fought beside him. She was not the warrior her father and brothers were, but she fought with courage and rage, buying them all time to escape. The Thalmor easily overtook her and her roars of rage turned to cries for mercy as they ran a sword through her left shoulder, leaving a nasty scar. Simus fought with the rage only a father could feel and killed the rest of their attackers, but he was too wounded to go in. He pleaded with Alice to run and, tears streaming down her face, she did as she was told. She made it several feet before falling face first into the snow.

Alice was found by a dunmer priest of Mara the following morning and taken back to the Imperial City to rest. Simus, being covered in snow, was overlooked and woke up with only his wife’s frozen corpse. He himself was found by old comrades from the Legion, men who were under his command during the Great War. They were able to get him healthy enough to get back to the Imperial City and look for Alice. She was the only one not in Skyrim they told him and she was in danger while alone in the city. Simus spent a week looking for her and became desperate after no progress. He became belligerent with some guards and was thrown in jail to be executed, at the special request of the Thalmor Justiciar Ondolemar (Yes, he is the Thalmor Justiciar from Understone Keep in Markarth). Alice however was able to make some new friends in the city and they were able to break into Simus prison and set him free, foiling the Thalmor’s second attempt to kill them.

The two were overjoyed to be united, and after staying with Alice’s new friends for a while they both headed to Skyrim to join the Stormcloaks, find their family and rebuild their lives as best they could.

    Name: Alice Psyrakon
    Race: Imperial
Age: late teens (Approximately 18, though she's small and young-looking enough to pass for 15 or 16)
Class: Arcane Ranger (Ranger skills augmented with illusion and destruction, rather than healing magic)
    Gender: Female

Looks: 5', 0", pale, cream coloured skin and small but curvy breasts. She has shoulder length ebony hair (think Ysolda's hair but a dark black) and no scars, blemishes or age marks of any kind save for a scar on her right shoulder from a Thalmor sword. She almost always wears a smile and is usually clean and presentable.

Equipment: A fire enchanted yew hunting bow (Mother’s Fire) passed down from her mother and steel arrows that she taught Alice to fletch herself. During the fletching, Alice is able to enchant the arrows to explode in a fireball spell upon contact. Not only is the target damaged by fire and the shock of the explosion, but is showered by splinters of burning wood and steel. The arrowhead itself is designed to explode inside the target, doing severe damage to it's innards. She knows and uses many other enchantments, but this is the most common one. Unfortunately, such arrows are very expensive and time consuming to make, so she doesn't use them very often. She also uses several poisons with her arrows. The poison depends on her target, but damage health and slow are her favorites.

She also wields a shock enchanted imperial sword (Father’s Steel) forged by her father and an unenchanted steel dagger for utilitarian purposes.

Alice wears a very special type of leather armour that her mother taught her to make. It's a form fitting white bodysuit that covers her entire body from her head down, minus her hands but including her feet. It's made from dyed leather and reinforced with frostbite spider silk, producing a light and very strong material: Strong on the order of steel chainmail and with a fraction of the weight. The suit opens in the front via a Dwemer invention called a zipper, a moonstone track starting at the groin and ending at the collar and is opened and closed by a fastener, ending at the collar when closed. The soles of the armor's feet are made of dotted rubber, another Dwemer invention created form an alchemy recipe and provide good traction when walking. The armor is also enchanted with Ebonyflesh and Fortify Stamina for additional protection. (In summary, think leather footy pajamas.)

Over this armour, Alice wears a pair of brown leather knee high boots that also close with a zipper, have rubber soles and are enchanted with Fortify Carry Weight and Fortify Stamina. She has a pair of matching leather gloves with the same enchantments and a blue dress with short sleeves and a mid thigh length skirt. The dress has three brass buttons and a fine collar that goes below her throat that she keeps buttoned up. The dress has the same enchantments as her armour, but is more for style than actual protection. Alice also wears a simple silver band on her right ring finger and a pair of small silver earrings with a tiny sapphire in each. Both have Fortify Magika. (The entire outfit together makes her look something like Link in the Zora Tunic from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.) She also has several pairs of one piece footy pajamas that are of similar style to her leather armor but are made of soft, light mixture of tundra cotton and wool (the closest Elder Scrolls equivalent of fleece). This makes them warm and very comfortable and the resizing and self-cleaning enchantments add to this. Part of the self-cleaning enchantment is a weak heat spell to keep them warm when not in use. Alice and her sister Cilla treasure these pajamas and are able to swap pairs whenever they choose thanks to the resize enchantments. Alice's favorite pair is white with black skulls and black ribbed cuffs and collar. She always has at least this pair when travelling.

Personality: Alice is extremely friendly and outgoing. Her small size and endearing nature make her easy to love and adore. She loves to meet new people, talk to them and get to know them. As a result, she's a friend to most people she meets and leaves a good impression on almost everyone. She also has excellent manners and is very good at addressing those in power. She's very intelligent and has mixed illusion magic with archery and tracking to become a cunning hunter and archer. She's good at moving quietly through both urban and wooded environments and could be a very good thief if she wanted to. However, she sees such behavior as not only grossly dishonorable but extremely unladylike.
She's a devout worshipper of both Talos and Mara, her father teaching her the honourable ways of the former and her mother the kind hearted ways of the latter. She seeks to act honourably in all aspects of life but also has a desire to share her love with everyone.

Alice also has a stranger side to her in the form of a very special gift. Alice is able to see into the future. She was born with this power and has learned how to use it to See things she’s interested in, but she’s never fully understood it or where it came from. She and her family have determined that it’s a gift from either Akatosh or Azura but they’re not sure which one. Indeed, both have helped Alice at different points in her life, both through dreams and direct communion, so she pays homage to both. She’s certainly more comfortable accepting guidance from the Great Dragon than the Daedric Prince of Dusk and Dawn, but is willing to accept either in times of need.

For Alice to see anything more than a passing glimpse takes great concentration on her part and reaching far into the mists of the future requires the assistance of others. Even with proper discipline, the future is always changing so there’s no guarantee that what she sees is the absolute truth, or that she’ll understand it. It could be nonsense, it could be a convincing lie, it could be true but unhelpful or it could be the key to saving the world. It all depends on luck and the will of the gods.

Relavent Backstory: Alice's father's covert worship of Talos was discovered by the Aldmeri Dominon one year before Helgan, as well as her mother's status as a former Blade. Thalmor agents chased her and her entire family out of their home in the Imperial City and burned it down. The fled to Bruma so some of her father's friends could take them to Skyrim, but they were betrayed and captured. Rather than die at the gallows, they all broke out and fought out of the city and into the Jerrall Mountains where more Thalmor agents awaited them. Alice's mother died defending her children, her father was incapacitated and she was separated from her little sister and two brothers as they either fought or fled. Alice suffered grievous wounds herself when she stayed and fought after her father told her to run. She was quickly overwhelmed by the Thalmor but her father killed all of her attackers in an attempt to save her. Afterwards, he begged her to run and this time, with her eyes spilling over with tears, she did so. She hobbled a few feet before succumbing to her wounds and passing out. She was rescued the next day, but her father was separated. She was brought back to the Imperial City and he came back to look for her but was captured during the search. After several days of planning with some new friends she had made, Alice broke Simus out and the two were reunited. After resting for a time, they headed north to Skyrim to join the Stormcloaks, find the rest of their family and rebuild their lives as best they could.

    Name: Shadari

    Age: Twenty (20)

    Sex: Female

    Race: Khajiit

    Class: Assassin

Appearance: About five and a half feet tall (5'4"), the colour of her fur is dark grey, almost black, with lighter fur at the top of her ears and the tip of her tail. Her emerald green eyes are rather expressive, able to make her seem like the most lovable person in the world, or the most dangerous.

Armour: Dark grey, like her fur, the armour is molded to her body almost like a second skin. It is designed not to absorb heavy blows, from a mace, or hammer, but rather to deflect slashes and stabs of her opponents. The only place where the armour can actually take a serious blow is the shoulders, where the armour is slightly ridged, and slightly thicker. Due to the quick movements required by the armour, Shadari wears absolutely nothing under it, believing,(correctly), that any garments under the armour would simply slow her down.

Weapons: A falchion, made out of steel and moonstone, passed down through her clan for over two hundred years. The blade is about two fingers wide, from edge to edge, and a metre long. It has a slashing edge on one side, and is blunt on the other, with a stabbing point, unlike a scimitar. Also, she has six throwing knives in concealed sheathes on her belt, made from steel, and incredibly light weight. Excels in hand to hand combat.

Personality: Shadari likes to play the part of the flirt, but deep down, she doesn't give a damn about others. She will do everything in her power to get her revenge. However, she does have a soft spot for younger people, especially girls, as they remind her of her sisters. Believes that emotions are weakness, and does everything she can to keep them hidden very deep down. Does not like magic users of any kind, seeing them as too weak to use their other attributes to get the job done.

Backstory: Shadari was born in northern Elsweyr, into a clan of Khajiit assassins that killed not for gold, but honour. Due to this, they were widely accepted in the Khajiit homeland, and fought with other Khajiit clans against the Bosmer. Shadari was part of a eight cub litter, and like her sisters, was trained as an assassin by her mother. Her brothers were trained similarly, although with more of a warrior undertone.

One day, a powerful mage, by the name of Jorn BlackStone entered the clan homestead, and offered an enormous amount of gold to kill several important nobles. He was refused, and flew into a rage. Weeks later, on Shadari's seventeenth birthday, Jorn returned, and summoned a horde of Daedra, that wiped out every last member of the clan. To her knowledge, only Shadari was spared, by the dumb luck of having been out on a hunt when the demons attacked.

Returning to her home to be met with the scene of carnage, the Khajiit assassin swore vengeance on the sorcerer. She tracked him from Elsweyr to Skyrim, and has learned that recently, the man sided with Ulfric Stormcloak. Although deadly, she knew that she couldn't kill the man when he was surrounded by Stormcloaks and in a province that had a pronounced hate of everything that isn't a Nord.

    Name: Andre Marek
    Race: Nord
    Class: Bounty Hunter
    Gender: Male
Physical Description: Andre Marek is 6’4” tall and has a lean, muscular build, broad shoulders and a tanned complexion. He has dark brown hair that he keeps cut brutally short. His eyes are a pale grey. Marek sports a long scar on his left cheek, which stretches from the left corner of his mouth to just before his left ear.

Personality: Marek is often described as being stoic, rarely ever allowing others to read his emotions by hiding behind an inscrutable expression of disdain for those around him. He has little patience for anyone, even his employers. Being a bounty hunter by trade, he has no compunctions about violence although he does not always resort to it if an alternative presents itself. Years of negotiating contracts and vying for information from shady underworld associates have sharpened his tongue to the point where he can verbally parry with even the most adept. Marek is very intelligent and enjoys outsmarting his rivals as well as his quarry. There is rarely a situation which he cannot turn in his favour, or in the very least, survive. He has no racial prejudices but he harbours a deep seated hatred and distrust of magic and does not trust those who wield it.

Apparel : Black pants and tunic worn under a light weight black leather vest which is additionally reinforced with darkened steel plates on the chest and stomach areas as well as covering his shoulders, collarbone, and back. On his limbs Marek wears gauntlets and grieves of the same darkened steel. Protecting his upper legs is a heavy black leather kama (A kama is a long skirt-like piece of armor which hangs from the belt down to just below the knees. The front is parted to allow for freedom of movement to the wearer.) In place of a helmet he wears a black hood and often hides his features underneath a close fitting mask on the lower half of his face. (Basically lloks like Mandalorian armor from SW but minus the helmet, jetpack, and tech.)

Combat Preference: Andre Marek is a master of hand to hand combat and is often able to engage and defeat several opponents at once even if they happen to be armed. Often times Marek will forego his sword In favour of simple hands and feet. Although his preferred style is unarmed, he is also skilled with his long, bastard sword which he took from the corpse of an ex bounty. He prefers to wear light armor and clothing but will make use of heavier armors if the situation demands it. Marek is also very skilled at remaining undetected in the both the wilderness as well as in towns and cities.

Biography: Andre Marek was born into a Nordic family living in Cyrodiil before the Great War. During his childhood his father who was a member of the Imperial Legion, taught him how to handle a sword as well as started him hunting. He was in fact out hunting on the day that his family was killed by the elves and has since harboured a bitter resentment of the Dominion. During the war he saw firsthand the kind of destruction that magic users could unleash, having witnessed Thalmor Agents slaughter whole villages. He vowed that he would never become tainted by what he saw as unnatural and wholly evil powers. After the fighting died down and the Empire signed the White Gold Concordat, he took to traveling between the cities of Cyrodiil and offering his services as a bounty hunter to track down and return fleeing fugitives. During this time he discovered the identities of the Thalmor who had killed his parents. After tracking the agents for several days they became aware of his presence, captured Marek and subjected him to cruel tortures both magical and otherwise. The agents decided that he knew nothing of value and left him for dead. After stumbling through the woods for a whole night barely alive he collapsed in a farmer’s field. When the farmer discovered him he offered him a place to stay and recover. When he was recovered enough to continue his job as a bounty hunter, he set out to become strong enough to one day kill the Agents responsible. Marek abilities quickly earned him many contracts with several members of the Imperial courts. Many of the contracts were capture only, forcing Marek to learn new ways to apprehend his quarry. After hearing of the impending war in Skyrim he decided to travel north in the hopes of making his fortune capturing fugitives and hopefully discover the whereabouts of his parents killers. After several years of searching the province he eventually discovered the whereabouts of the Thalmor agents. This time he showed no quarter. Marek killed the agents during the final hours of Skyrim’s civil war, thus ending his crusade.

We won't do anything major until we have a few more people but I don't see why you couldn't make an intro now. We'll all be shooting the breeze until Vignar and Simus want to start anyway.

Nice opening post Baroth, but it's nearly midnight and you described a scene in the middle of the day. Unless you got into town earlier in the day?
