Dr.Madness

Overlord of the Void
I just finished Unearthed and decided to forgive the poor guy and I have to say he makes for a excellent follower. I have him equipped in:

Helmet: Deathbrand Helmet (Legendary)
Cuirass: Deathbrand Armor (Legendary)
Gauntlets: Deathbrand Gauntlets (Legendary)
Boots: Deathbrand Boots (Legendary)
Gold Necklace (Resist Magic 20% and Resist Fire 46%)
Azhidal's Ring of Arcana

He dual wields:
Stalhrim Sword (Legendary: Absorb Health and Frost Damage)
Stalhrim Dagger (Legendary: Absorb Stamina and Frost Damage)

I have to say, he is by far one of the best followers I've encountered, if not the best.

He seems to have many of the dual wielding perks (if not all)as his power attacks are fast and devastating. He starts out a battle by equipping Ignite and dual casting it at the opposition; he seems to have the Impact perk from the Destruction Skill Constellation (from what I've seen). Once his magicka runs out he switches to dual wielding, I have not seen him use a bow yet, but he is armed with Ebony Arrows in case the need arises.

I took him on a test drive and he single handedly took on the entire Markarth City Guard ( not once was he knocked down) and we went to a few Forsworn Camps and we then returned to Helijarchen Hall (my vacation home for Mages) and after dispatching the random Giant (with the death of my cow) for fun I put him in a bout against my entire household. He took on my Steward and Wife singlehandedly (Brelyna Maryon and Lydia). My Housecarl (Gregor) and my Bard were late to the party and were slain quickly. I had to reload a save but I can't wait to see if he can fight Karstaag one on one.

What are your thoughts on Ralis or any of the other new followers introduced in Dragonborn? Besides Ralis I adventure with Talvas very often as well. One of the best mages I've seen, He has the summoning powers of Brelyna and the offensive capabilities of Marcurio.

That's a shame as I can't have the chance to try him out, I couldn't help but to kill him, he stole a lot of money from me, I couldn't, I just couldn't, I wish I didn't though, his ghost is still chasing my dreams till this moment :)

Yeah I was tempted to do it, but from reading his Journals I came to the conclusion the Dragon Acolyte had possessed him so I forgave him. In case you haven't done it yet, do the "Deathbrand" quest. You can start it by going to the Retching Netch and asking the Inn Keeper for rumors. (You need to be level 36 to start). You get the Deathbrand Armor set (which I mentioned before) it is similar to Dragonscale I believe and the Helmet enchantment gives you +100 armor rating if you wear the full set. You also get 10,000 gold (to help you get your money back) and get two unique Scimitars. They are great for dual wielding specialists; if you dual wield them they have the following enchatments:

One has:
Absorb 15 Health, and lower armor rating (random chance of occurring per strike)

The counterpart has:

Absorb 15 Magicka and dispel Magical Defenses (Elemental Cloaks and Flesh Spells, Random chance per strike)

They have the base damage of a ebony sword and require the Ebony Smithing perk to improve to Legendary and a Ebony Ingot.

I haven't actually had the opportunity to use Ralis, but Teldryn Sero, the mercenary from The Retching Netch is simply fantastic, he's a spellsword and I have to say he's one of the best followers I've used.

Teldryn Sero is one of my favorite followers, I usually only use spellswords (They are equipped for
both Ranged and Close Combat and can heal themselves) before the DLC's I used only Belrand as a follower (sometimes Cicero) and I feel Teldryn Sero is a huge improvement compared to Belrand. I had to stop using him due to two reasons:

1. My game will freeze a lot when he is my follower.
2. He complains about EVERY place we visit. (You want to go to Skyrim Teldryn? The second we arrive in Windhelm he complains about his life in the Gray Quarter and made my Dark Elf even more depressed about the Dark Elf situation in Windhelm, in Nordic Crypts he warns me about the dangers within every five minutes)

Good follower, another one I like is Frea; her dual wielding is nothing like Ralis or the Falkreath Housecarl but the Alteration and Restoration spells are a nice bonus.

If you were to give the same equipment to the people you had Ralis slaughter, then perhaps he'd have a tougher time with them. But yeah, the followers in this dlc are good, since they all have perks. From what I remember, Ralis and Teldryn max out at level 60 and have extra damage perks, Frea has no max level, and Talvis maxes out at... level 25. Still a really good mage. The only thing I do not like about him is he and freakin Neloth turn on you if you have a really high bounty in Raven Rock or you kill someone there in front of him when he follows you and get a bounty for it. Oh yeah, besides Jenassa, Frea and Ralis seem to be the only permanent followers who can properly dual wield.

I like him--he doesn't talk much, the first time I went to battle with him he decapitated a Thalmor with a PICKAXE (not hoarfrost), he's exellent in battle, and I just like his "backstory" (events of Unearthed, posession, Azhital, killing, ect)
EDIT: you can have Frea as a follower? I think I might have pissed her off when I mentioned the death of her father...

You can, after you complete the final mission talk to her in SKaal Village. You can ask her to follow you, just pass a Speech Check or Bribe her. She is like Ralis but will cast :Ebonyflesh, Ironflesh, and CLose Wounds.
