Pinemoon Cave Side Quest.(Help!!!!)

I am doing the quest for Solitude's court wizard. She asks me to kill the vampires and their leader inside Pinemoon cave. I had already cleared the cave before initiating the quest, and when I go inside, there is a quest marker on the ground(presumably where I killed the leader before). But there are no people inside. Usually if you try to initiate a side quest, such as this, where I previously cleared out the cave, there would have been an option to tell the court wizard that I already took care of it. What's going on here?

Also, is this a quest that must be done before I can purchase a home in Solitude?

ok firstly that quest is a miscellaneous one and shouldn't interfere with you purchasing a home in solitude! so dont worry!. Secondly i havent heard of this bug before and yes you should of had the option to say you have already killed them/ the cave should of respawned the vampires. Right now i can suggest reloading to an older save before you killed the pinemoon cave vampires if possible. This would be a definite fix. otherwise i can look around for other ways to solve this problem. Hope i helped

Thanks for the speedy response. I'm afraid I can't revert to a previous save, because I have played a significant amount between then and now.

Ah that's unfortunate. I did some more research but no one else has had the same problem/they haven't made it known. Perhaps you might just need to forget about the quest? as its only a miscellaneous one and not important. Another idea might be to come back in a few weeks in-game and see if the vampires re spawned. That's all the suggestions I have and sorry I couldn't find a direct fix. Maybe someone else will see this and know how to. Also welcome to the forums! I hope you like it here if you decide to stay.

A lot of times, when you get the side quests like that, the cave will repopulate a little bit so you can kill the bandit leader/vampire/boogy man... I've cleaned out caves before and then gone to get more work or get a side quest for the jarl or their mage and gone back to the same cave and cleared it out again.

So, if you cleared it previously and the court wizard says to go back and kill another leader, you can wait a day or two and go back and you should find another leader to kill. Usually there won't be an option to tell the wizard you've done the job until you do the job.

I'd wait a few days and then go back to the cave and clear it again.

Thats what i thought about purchasing the home in riften, i was given a misc quest to disrupt the skooma operation in craigslan cavern, from the jarl of riften, but sice i already cleared it, i have to do what"Gemini Sierra" said, kill the inhabitants, go back later, etc till completed. i remeber doing that, and mabey a second side quest (given after pine moon) and when i got back to solitude, they offerd me the 25000 gold house

I just finished this quest and went back to the Court Wizard and she had no response for me to tell her I had killed all the vampires either. I cleared the cave after receiving the quest so that's not my problem. Sounds like a glitch. Does this mean I need to go back and redo this quest and see if I can get it to work??
