Today during the Playstation Experience keynote address, a brand-new trailer for Square-Enix's Final Fantasy VII trailer was unveiled.

We went in expecting a selection of sparse clips, but instead got the entire opening sequence from the original game. Cloud hopped off the train, we heard him talk with Biggs, Wedge, Jessie and Barret, we saw them infiltrate Reactor #5 and fight against the robot scorpion thing, and we saw them escape as the reactor blew up. We got to see Cloud run down the streets of Upper Midgar before being stopped by an army of Shinra troops, which he escaped by jumping back on the train -- but not before we saw our first fight.

It's hard to tell exactly how it'll control. There's a menu in the lower left corner of the screen, but Cloud leaps around so much that he suggests players will be able to move him around in battle freely. If it's some kind of action-turn-based hybrid, Square isn't speaking yet.

Everyone also has English voices. I don't know if they're temporary tracks or permanent, but they sound great and, most importantly, unlike the dub for FFVII: Advent Children, Barret DOESN'T sound like Mr. T.

You can watch the whole thing embedded below. Square's FFVII remake is currently in development without a release date.
