Currently, Skyrim is quite laggy in some places, and almost never runs smoothly. My computer's Ram is pathetic right now (3 gigs) so that might be the case.

What is the most crucial thing to upgrade in order to play Skyrim? Is it the processor?

Laggy probably means your CPU is the limiting factor. How fast is it?

Just post your computer specs, easier to check.

Most important part would be the screen, so you can see what the hell you are doing.

I'm not asking for why it runs bad. I know that I'm going to need to upgrade. I'm getting an extra 3 gigs of RAM tomorrow so that should help.

I'm really just asking which part of the computer affects performance the most. My GPU is phenomenal (7.1 on the rating scale) but that's worthless without an equally good processor (etc.).

If you have a good GPU then definitely the CPU and RAM, but you already know that, lol.
