Hi, and welcome! Skyrim is a great RPG - the best, in my opinion!

There are several good resources for character builds. IGN is just one example:

Generally, it comes down to race, and the type of gameplay you want to do. If you like sneaking past foes, using a bow and slitting throats silently with one-hit kills, these races are good:

• Wood Elf
• Khajiit

If you like playing the tank, rushing headlong into battle and drawing first blood before foes can draw their weapons, these races make good tanks:

• Nord
• Orc
• Redguard

If you want to focus on magic - with a spell in both hands or a spell in one hand and a weapon in the other - these races specialize in it:

• Dark Elf - Destruction magic
• Breton - Conjuration magic
• High Elf - any magic

Argonians and Imperials can work for any of the three. According to lore, Argonians traditionally made the best assassins and Imperials the best soldiers, but the stats of the game don’t necessarily reflect this.

Truth is, Skyrim is extremely flexible and forgiving. You can play any character “class” with any race and switch classes any time. So, don’t worry about later changing your mind!
