Once you reach about level 20, and have a healing spell, you should be able to utilize this method. Approach a giant (without a companion) and try to coax him away from any other giants or mammoths that might be near him. Do this by approaching him until he raises his club, and then slowly take a few steps backwards until you have him isolated from the rest of his friends. Use your shield to block his blows and heal yourself as necessary. Do not strike him back, just protect yourself. You may have to run away occasionally, to regenerate stamina and then immediately return and allow him to pummel you. Once you have the perk to heal health AND stamina, this process will go quickly. Your block level with rise quickly, as well as your overall level. (Restoration will also rise, although slowly.) Once you reach 100 block, make the ability legendary, and repeat the process. You will rise in levels very quickly, as well as obtain a lot of perks, that you can apply anywhere you want!

it is the easiest perk to level up on, because each time the giant hits you, you go up one block level, until around level 40, then it slows down a bit, but you can typically reach a new overall level every 20 minutes or so! Great for when you need perk points!

Plus, it lets you go higher than the level 81 limit you would get if you never made anything legendary. I'm level 106 right now. Plus I'm invisible! :D

Can a branded iron shield block a giant's hit? And if not, if you're in god mode, does your block skill go up?

Just turn the difficulty to novice and take giant hits, with a decently powerful shield like Dwarven or something.

Do this at your own peril, because enemies level with your overall level, and I don't advise power levelling...as a more focused, low level build is much more effective if you limit your skill trees to about 6.

I did this with my character though, because I needed block, as he's a pure melee build....don't power level skills your not going to use at all.

Harder enemies replace those that were weaker, so Master mages replace apprentices etc.

Power level too much and you won't be able to handle the casuals you face, becoming a damage sponge.

Balance is crucial for a fun, challenging experience.

I am in God mode now, but wasn't when I first started using this method. You definitely want the best armor and shield that's available to you around level 20, but I think your actual level is what's important. Make sure you save just prior to the fight, and of course, if you go flying a 1000 feet in the air, then you're not ready...lol...It will only take one hit from him to know. If you can tolerate that first hit, then you should be fine...just watch your health and stamina, and make sure you run away before your stamina gets too low to run. Once you have the healing restoration and stamina regain, you shouldn't have to run away much at all. I don't know if I'm in God mode like I've heard people mention, but I have enchanted my armor to give me HUGE amounts of health, stamina, and magic...so it's so high that I can even take a few bites from a dragon, with no repercussions. So yes, all your levels for block and restoration, etc..., will still rise as usual. Let me know if you need any additional help!!! Have fun!!

I have never set the difficulty to novice, or needed an upgraded shield to do this, but I also would just use this method in spurts, to get a much needed perk point, or raise my block and restoration skills. I wouldn't recommend doing this non-stop, just to raise your overall level, at least until you get much higher. You are right, you need need to keep a balance. There is no point in stocking up a bunch of perk points if you don't have the skill level to apply perks to...Just use this as needed to gain a perk you qualify for, and then go play some more!

Hmm, not much for power leveling but good to know.

For more perk points I prefer the "Spend Dragon Souls for Perks" mod. Which honestly seems like something that should have been included in vanilla.
