Hey, I had a few questions on the whole pets thing.
    1. How many pets can your kids have?
    2. Can deathhounds be pets?
    3. Can your kid have a pet if he/she lives in a major city such as solitude? I keep coming home and they comment on my animal follower but that's it.
    4. If your kid had a pet before you orphaned him, will it affect him getting a pet when you adopt him? Or will it stay his pet? For example, will Clinton have his goat following him around inside the house?
    5. And last, if your pet is killed by a giant or dragon, will your kid ask or get a new one?

I only know the first two.
    1) I think each kid can only have one, although I'm not sure if you have two children, BOTH can have one. In my house, my daughter has a fox, and I brought home a dog, so I'm not sure if my son would have found one eventually.
    2) No, they can't be pets. That would be cool though :D

How do you get them to have pets. Spend ALOT of time at home while they play and wander? Or just come home and they ask you all of a sudden?

Pretty sure it's just a random thing, which means if you go away and come back home later eventually they'll have a pet and ask to adopt it. Other random things - being asked for an allowance, being asked for a present, coming home and finding your 2 kids quarreling. That's all I've seen so far.

    3. Yes, they can still find pets and bring them home. My daughter Sofie found a bunny and brought it home, and we live in Solitude.
    4. He should, but sometimes the game glitches and the pet will disappear.
    5. Your child will most likely find a new one, or become excited and ask you if they can keep your companion pet.

I agreed to let Lucia keep her fox friend, but after listening to it's heavy breathing for a while I punched it to death. At which point the little brat said she would never speak to me again so I decided to RELOAD since I'm supposed to be "good", damn roleplaying...

I'm still waiting for Runa to bring back a pet . Samuel kept bringing back mudcrabs and skeevers after the stray dog got killed trying to protect my chickens from a giant (i know right!) so i let him keep the skeever. Can she still bring a pet back even though he has one?? i've been going back every in game day for 2 in game months!! on the brightside i got a lot of money from vilkas ^^. I REALLY WANT A FOX OR BUNNY!

I brought home a dog and my daughter asked if we could keep him. I said "hell, why not. When I'm not using him you can play with him." So I assumed that his new home was my house so I told him to go home and he walked away. How do I get him to stay in my house? And I came home and my daughter had a bunny. I've never seen any other possible pets in the games. Are there more?

Runa asked me if I could adopt one of the Dawnguard huskies and I said she could when I was done with him. I sent him home and he ran of into the woods. I went back inside and the Husky was playing around in the kitchen. You can still use them as a follower.
