Is it weird to RP as a woman if you are a man?

I have recently started a new Skyrim RP, based on Alice Pleasance Liddell (yes, the girl from Alice in Wonderland.)

I based the RP on:

Her insanity she goes through in the American McGee's Alice games, and the fact that she is the first RP I've done that has actually slain a dragon prior to her appearance in Skyrim (in the most recent movie based on the story, Alice slays the Jabberwock in the end.)

I've been looking for a character who could actually "main" a sword and "secondary" the Wabbajack, and Alice is her!

I don't think that's weird at all. Alice is an awesome character. And besides that, role playing IMHO is about getting out of your own skin. So why not? I've considered making a male character myself and I'm female. I don't think there is anything weird about the opposite.

^^ What ecozombie said. I'm female as well and I've had a bunch of male characters. Never found it weird as I don't identify myself with who I play as. They're all completely different people with different personalities/views/thoughts etc. It's called role-playing for a reason

Currently, she's working her way through the College of Winterhold (to gain skill in Restoration and Illusion.)

Next, she'll join the Thieves' Guild (stealth is her friend, as are bows.)

After that, the Dark Brotherhood (time to really become an Alchemy ace!)

Dawnguard next - time to upgrade that bow and arrow into a crossbow!

Dragonborn after - imagine what she could with a Dragonbone bow...

After all that, it's time to stuff the Vorpal blade down the Jabberwock's throat - I mean terminate Alduin!

Find games with two genders refreshing, esp considering the ammount of male only bs...

Well... Most (if not all) of us have already been inside a coffin with a decayed old lady as her pet clown whispered sweet nothings in the chamber, while not having even heard her voice.

I am pretty sure roleplaying as an opposite gender character is really normal by now.

I RP a woman quite a lot. Though they're tied to my other stories and I still RP as them as in what they would do in these situations if they were given the opportunity to do so. Not to say they don't have their on trials and tribulations but it's nice to put them through different situations and see what happens.

I don't find it weird at all. My first and most played character is a female. And while I don't rp, I don't think it's weird to create a story which is based on someone different from yourself.

Even if you are for example a man, and you want to play as yourself as a woman, that should be okay too! There are people in real life that are male and feel like a woman and vice versa.

Why would that be weird? If you want to play as a chick then play as a chick. Heck any game I've ever played that lets you play as a male or a female I've done two playthroughs of: one as a guy and one as a girl. All that matters is that you have fun with it and if anyone has a problem with it then ignore them and do you.

I have yet to make a female character in Skryim. I may do this soon. And yet despite what all are saying in this thread thus far, it IS going to feel a bit weird when my female character begins courting males for marriage, (I could do what my brother does with his female characters, which is: marry another female, but this defeats the purpose, I think). I wish there was an option to brawl with prospective mates in the Uthgerd the Unbroken tradition.

but on a more serious note this is a great idea. I hope you've executed it in the month since this thread began. And there's not a thing wierd about RP'ing as a woman when you're a man. I do it all the time! My Alice, my second Skyrim character, is a ported version of my RP writing character of the same name on this site. And to be fair her original conception was based on Mary Alice Bradon from the Twilight series and was gradually changed to be closer to Alice Liddell when I became aware of the Alice series and did just enough research to weave it into her character. I should probably play those games at some point but I'm having fun making up my own stuff off of the basic premise. My Alice even wears the standard Wonderland outfit as a change of clothes in most RP's I write in lol.

Anyway, just saw this topic and had to berate the guy...er...respond to it. Enjoy your in-game RP'ing Jake!

I've had my Alice in:

Necromancer's Robes (man, she looked GOOD in that, considering the "Goth Alice" character.)
Arch-Mage's Robes

and she currently wears Guild Master's Armor (I thought I'd give her something with an armor rating and begin smithing until I get her able to upgrade the Guild Master's Armor set.)
