I didn't do Viking style, but that's generally good advice for sword&board. They didn't do some of the more dangerous stuff, like shield hooking, and thrusts, and those are really light swords (For safety.) My specialty was Targe, and Claymore (Baskethilt, not "Braveheart" bastard) in the melee, Hanger, and Cinquedea, or Estoq for duels.

It may look silly but that's how real medieval warriors would fight. It's not pretty, but as the video shows that fighting to look pretty usually ends with one's arm being lobbed off

You can see that they're not actively trying to kill each other. Good thing that they don't but it detracts just a little bit from the realism when they're up close.
It would be really awesome to see a fight like this done to the death... except for the death part of course.
