I had Marcurio as a follower and husband.... We were fighting some enemies and I climbed down a mountain, he followed me half way and I ended up going down the mountain the rest of the way. He didn't follow. I went back to the spot he was in and he was gone. Vanished! I've waited many days both in game and real life and he does NOT go to our home or back to his spot in the bee&barb.

He didn't die and I have not received a letter. Now this wouldn't bother me, but he had one of the priest masks in his items.

How in the world do you get lost followers back?

(also, seems many people are having the problem of losing followers, are they ever going to fix that?)

I dont know how to get lost followers back, sorry, but I do know that if you make a bunch of jumps up onto platforms, or jump from high up areas, or walk around a large obstacle and then sprint, that sometimes the followers have a hard time "thinking" their way to follow you. Basically when you have a follower, from my experience, you have to take a somewhat dumbed downed approach to any area.

Well, there's a chance that a glitch has caused him to disappear from the game.. which is likely to happen when he's attempting to follow you up a mountain. Or, he may be stuck?
If you are using the PC version of Skyrim there should be a console command you can use to spawn him by you.. not sure what that command is though..

Yeah, i think the programmers should have used an icon for followers so you know exactly where the follower is, but they didn't so we have to deal with it.

If you have pc, you can try to use console command player.moveto and whatever the code is for the follower you're using (series of numbers and letters <000A2C94>is lydia's code).

If you are on a console, try to wait a few hours, for Mjoll, I have waited five hours sometimes for her to show up. Or, try to look around. there's a bug/glitch where the follower can be stuck either on a ledge or even partially inside a rock. If he is stuck on a ledge, he will move to you if he sees you. If he's inside a rock part ways, tap the unrelenting force shout. Just tap it, you don't want him flying off to his actual death.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Well, I just couldn't stand not being able to finish the dragon mask set, so I went back to a load game that I still had my follower that went missing. I was level 50 or 51, now back to level 41  Not to mention all the time I spent running around doing stuff and killing things. Ugh, it's almost like starting over again. Oh well, learn the hard way - NEVER GIVE YOUR FOLLOWERS IMPORTANT STUFF! ;)

    hehe... yeah

did you try fast traveling? that often times gets them to you. sometimes just transitioning into a place will help them catch up too.

I had done everything I could think of. I fast traveled, I went to our home and waited using the wait function, went back to where he was and looked for him, and looked back in his original spot where I hired him.... nothing. So now I have to redo about 10-15 quests, and hope I get the loot back that I found after continuing without him. (I decided to continue without him because I didn't realize he had the mask, and just got a different follower instead.. BIG MISTAKE, I never should have continued!)

ah there's something you didn't mention before. you took another follower.
That means... he's either dead and the courier with your letter is still looking for you, or the waiting time frame expired and he's heading home. Since they just walk when they leave your employ, they may have encountered enemies and gotten killed somewhere between where you lost him and Riften or your home.

You don't mention whether you're on a pc or a console, if it is the former, open command (console) window and type: prid 000B9986 <enter> then type moveto.player <enter> . the first command selects the base reference ID of the character and the second one moves that selected person to you.
If he's still alive he should now be next to you.

You could try to move to the person: player.moveto 000B9980 and you should be moved to his location.
If he got killed, then you just have to wait for the paperwork.

Seems Skyrim bugs a lot, PC version looks to be the best since you can fix some stuff with codes. Should have went with that instead. Not to mention I've had to redo fights because the game freezes up entirely on my xbox from time to time.
