With the number of fans Final Fantasy 9 has, one would assume it's on Steam already if they haven't looked -- but it isn't. This absence will be corrected soon: Square put out a trailer today announcing a port of FFIX for PC, iOS and Android.
After what happened with the "makeover" Square gave Final Fantasy 6, the question on everybody's mind is "DID THEY MESS WITH THIS?" The answer, blessedly, is no. Footage from the actual port is in the trailer and indicates it should remain largely untouched. Similar to FF7's port, the game will have up-rezzed polygonal characters running around on fuzzy 480i backgrounds. The trailer footage is also in widescreen, which makes one wonder if the actual game will be zoomed in and cropped the way this video is, but hopefully not.
Square did not provide a release date with this trailer, just the promise that it was coming "soon."
