In a new interview with the website Examiner, Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata revealed the influences that inspired some parts of the upcoming game. For example, the car that Prince Noctis drives throughout the world is based on Tabata's father's car. On this he added the bond between father and son would be a theme. He also admitted The Last Of Us was an influence in the manner through which the story will be told.

"It's important that the story progresses through the gameplay in a very unforced way, in a similar way that it was done with The Last of Us, for example," Tabata said.

Any Final Fantasy fan might smell something off about this story -- namely, the fact that FFXV began life as a spinoff of FFXIII ten years ago, while The Last Of Us wasn't released until 2012. However, it's a safe assumption that the storyline has changed a lot between the game's birth and its present form. It's completely plausible they were still rewriting it in 2012.

It's also a good sign that Tabata has apparently played The Last Of Us! Too may Japanese games are produced in a vacuum independent of any outside influences, especially Western ones. We've learned a lot from the Japanese style of game-making....it's really time they started picking up some of our tricks too.
