Alice listened intently as the taller breton woman talked, voicing "mhmm"'s and "okay"'s when appropriate and nodding her head to show that she was paying attention. She was talking very quickly but Alice had no trouble keeping up with her. It was clear this woman had a keen mind and was passionate about conjuration as a subject and it was a refreshing change from the slow and dreary lessons with Alice's teachers. They had to go slow enough and repeat themselves enough so the other students could understand but Alice just got bored. Finally, here was a woman as smart as she was and who was willing to let her passion for her subject guide her lesson without having to hold back. It was a very refreshing change.
Where Alice got lost however was exactly how to apply this explanation. Confidence, power and intent weren't things you could just teach; they had to come from the self. That just wasn't happening for her and she couldn't understand why.
"Hmm..." She mused, stroking her chin with her left hand. "I understand what you're saying but I'm not sure where exactly my problem is. I'm trying to cast a soul trap on a spectral rabbit, then use a flames spell to force it back to Oblivion and trap its soul but I always hesitate. I know I'm holding back and that means I can't summon the appropriate confidence or power to back my intent and my spell fails, but why? Why do I always hesitate when trapping a rabbit. A sweet, cute little bunny rabbit...Wait a minute..."
Suddenly it hit her. The rabbit itself was the problem. She had been approaching things from entirely the wrong angle! Her eyes lit up with inspiration.
"By Talos, of course!" She exclaimed to the woman. "The problem isn't with my spell at all! The problem is the rabbit! When I summon the rabbit I imagine a cute fuzzy bunny and spectral creatures appear as their summoner imagines them to be so of course I'll have reservations about roasting it alive with fire!"
She practically tore her bag open and pulled out a pencil and piece of parchment, slamming it against the wall and furiously scribbling on it while muttering to herself. She could feel the older woman watching her with a mixture of amusement and endearment but she really didn't care at the moment. "Okay...raise right hand for 2.9 seconds, swish left hand for 3.1 in a semicircular pattern, bring both hands together after 4.2 seconds and imagine my brother's room on an average saturday after a night of drinking and we have....a nasty little goblin that I have no problem turning into a burnt pot roast! Yes...yes...that will work!"
She triumphantly stuffed the parchment in her front pocket and dropped the pencil into her bag before throwing it over her shoulder again. "You're name's Dabiene right? I'm Alice, thank you so much for the help! You just may have saved my entire future in Conjuration! I really don't mean to just rush off like this but I absolutely must test out this theory before the idea escapes my head! I'm sure you understand, than you so very much for your help! Have a wonderful rest of your day!" She said loudly, practically running to her room to try this new breakthrough. There was no running in the halls and new students weren't allowed to practice magic without supervision but she didn't care right now. She had a discovery to prove!
