Death knight (shadow knight) build suggestions

My fav all time rpg char was my troll shadow knight in old old old school EQ and so I am at some point going to try to (as i do in all rpgs) to make one. They usually fail due to game mechanics warrior casters sucking or summons being useless. So I was wondering if anyone has tried this and also wondering what the undead summons are like specifically the high level ones where you can perma raise 2 dead chars. I was thinking you could find some really badass lvl 40 enemies to revive as your pets and then do some fire spells fear spells shield sword armor = death knight
