I know, he's evil and wants to enslave practically everyone, but I can't help but feel bad for the guy. He's been trapped in a realm of oblivion for centuries and is using whatever means he can to escape. I feel like my goody-two-shoes Dovahkiin would do the same. I was disappointed that there was no option to help him. Thoughts?

To some point, I feel for him on that front. However he's the perfect example of what the greybeards said, the biggest downfall of the Dragonborn is their arrogance when they let their power outstrip their wisdom. Miraak was the first, both of the Dragon Blood and as an example of what the arrogance of such power can wrought. Even Tiber Septim himself was a victim to this when he dropped his guard and got his throat slit.

It's certainly true that Miraak is arrogant. But I was very surprised at how little interaction we got with him before the fight to kill him (I don't count the dragon soul stealing). I felt that there was a lot of missed opportunity for Miraak to at least try to tempt the dragonborn to his side. Especially since Hermaous Mora seems to consider you to be Miraak's replacement as his servant.

I agree with you, it was very disappointing on the interaction front. All things considered, this is one of the less notable DLCs I have bought in a very long time. Also, the shout to control dragons was very disappointing, but back to the main point, I was thinking about that yesterday as I was killing a few bandits, and now I have been wondering if someone has/is going to create a mod that allows you to sympathize with him.

Did it occur to anyone that if you are a vampire when you fight Miraak, By Technicality Miraak would be the first and Last Living Dragonborn because as a vampire you would technically be dead.

A vampire is undead, neither dead, nor alive. Though, yes technically, he would be the last living dragonborn, and first.

Actually they are full on dead they are detected with the Detect Dead spell after all, Undead is something that is Dead but still walking around or animated dead, it is not another state of existence, they are as dead as a skeleton is, the only difference is a vampire does not decay thus they appear as they did the second they died and remain that way forever, the most likely explanation for that could be due to the Immortal Blood within them first originating from an Immortal Daedra named Molag Bal.

("Tamriel was still young, and filled with danger and wondrous magicka when Bal walked in the aspect of a man and took a virgin, Lamae Beolfag, from the Nedic Peoples. Savage and loveless, Bal profaned her body, and her screams became the Shrieking Winds, which still haunt certain winding fjords of Skyrim. Shedding a lone droplet of blood on her brow, Bal left Nirn, having sown his wrath.)

See...that's probably why they don't decay and so many people think Vampire's are not dead because they look and act so alive when they are.

Arrogance seems like a common trait in the Dragonborn. This might explain why the Greybeards are extremely careful on what they teach the Dragonborn as far as new shouts goes. Miraak confirms this when he tells you: "I know things the Greybeards will never teach you."

    http://cs.uesp.net/index.php?game=sr&formid=0x0003c57c
"Dov wahlaan fah rel. We were made to dominate. The will to power is in our blood. You feel it in yourself, do you not?" This quote was directly taken by Paarthurnax himself.

Why do you think Hermaeus Mora stalks down new Dragonborns with promise of knowledge? Because the Dragonborns are easy prey for him. He's an equivalent of a child predator luring children into his van with promise of candy and ice cream. Almost all of my Dragonborns falls prey to this Prince. because they crave knowledge to further advancements their Dragonborn powers that the Greybeards otherwise wouldn't teach them.

Why should I? The guy betrayed his brothers and sisters for power and when he was on the verge of being poundcaked into oblivion by said brothers and sisters he took a deal with Mora to save his own ass. He deserved everything he had coming to him.

Miraak lived in the time of the Dragon Cult when Alduin ruled, back then the Dragon Priests and the dragons were Evil Tyrannical Overlord's and Miraak did not want to serve the Evil tyrannical Overlords so that would have made him the good guy by comparison and you might say but he says he did not want to kill Alduin, Well not everyone wants to be a hero now do they and what about the one who Miraak sided with is that not evil siding with Mora? well no it is not because Hermaues Mora is not Evil, He is a daedra and lacks the sense or right and wrong.

It's not that Mora lacks the sense. All the daedra understand Good and Evil, they just think themselves above mortals to a point where our concepts of good or evil make no difference to them. Like a human squishing an ant or spider. While it doesn't seem evil to us, it could seem evil to the spider.

Even undead could see Meridia as evil for murdering their kind. Some undead throughout the lore are good, but probably would be seen as vile and needing to be purged by Meridia, like someone who loves and takes care of bunnies (Mortals) but kills Foxes or snakes (Undead).

I could understand why Miraak was so frantic to get out of Apocrypha and go back home no matter what it took. I had more sympathy for him than I did Alduin, Harkon, Ancano, the Silver Hand, the Thalmor and Mercer Frey. But ultimately the fact he was trying to enslave the entire population of Solstheim meant this sympathy could not be acted on.

Also, the fact that he decided he was going to kill me outright did not do much to engender sympathy.

Personally, I feel that he got what he wanted. His soul is in the mortal realm, his dragon servant souls are with him. You'll probably find a way to screw Mora cause that's the type of thing an Elder Scrolls protagonist would do. Miraak could take any path he wants to regain a body, if it's possible. If not, then his soul would probably be freed when the last dragon born dies.
So yah...looks like things may have worked out for him. No pity from me.

Just curious, but what is your reasoning that his soul would be free when the last dragonborn dies?
