I don't really think followers would benefit a thief build. Dogs, maybe. But not followers as they make a lot of noise and sometimes, even when you have to stay stealthy, they charge ahead. Also, their blank faces are irritating :p.

That's true if the OP wants to have a follower and the most fitting ones would be the ones you mentioned above, but other than that, they actually put you in a disadvantage and are a nuisance. Just stating my opinion :).

I usually take a follower that kind of complements my own build. For my reckless berserker, I take a steadfast, sturdy guardian. Heavy armor. Shield. Steely eyes and a grim set lantern jaw. A big slow target for the slings and arrows that my lightly armored crazy-person can't absorb.

For my vampire mage, I bring an archer. Strong arms and sturdy legs to carry all the things an aristocrat of the night may need, but is far too dignified to carry herself. Someone with enough good sense to stay well and clear of explosions. Someone discreet enough to turn a blind eye to her nocturnal habits, but dim enough to never realize that on more than one occasion she's stolen his blood.

Thieves are special, in that I find they're the only thing that compliments themselves. They're specialists. They don't mesh well with other play styles. But for a thief, I'd bring a thief. An explosion flinging mage, or an iron clad giant would only serve to blow the thief's cover. A light-footed archer may serve.

Annekke or Derkeethus might work. They are my go tos for stealth builds.

If your an argo, Deerkethus. If you're a Dunmer, Janessa. If you're a Khajit, J'Zeera (sic), if you're human - there's no-one.
Anneke maybe. I think she has almost the same skill set as Deerkethus.

How do you backstab a Dragon?

That is true, but she tops out at level 30 so she gets a pass from me. I actually prefer one of the DB Initiates on my thieves since they can actually sneak, at least for my human thieves. Wish there was an Altmer or a Bosmer one though.

I just thought of something: If you're a thief, why would you want a follower? Isn't the whole point to get in and get out quickly and quietly with a minimum of fuss? I mean, honestly, aren't two people crouched down and following you so they can pick-pocket you a little obvious?

That's exactly my point ;).

Anyways, like Daelon stated, if you are Argo, go for Anneke or Deerkethus but Deerkethus is also better out of the two because he can dual-wield :D!

I've used followers as door guards. Just have them wait somewhere conveniently out of the way.

My issue with the initiates is that they have a tendency to bump into you a ruin some sweet archery shots.
