Open 18+ Dead Man's Drink (Fall of the Dragonborn)

"Truer words have never been spoken." Adelius said, closing his journal and putting it and his charcoal away in his bag.

 

[Chef Umaril]

"And that, my friend, is why we must gather to end this menace, but must be selective in our recruiting," Shallow Waters agreed in a slight whisper. He stands from his seat, and moves to an empty table; he doesn't seem to be spooked, but rather concentrated on one of the patrons that entered since the beginning of the conversation between Adelius and himself. At first glance, they seem to be acting like a usual patron, but closer examination reveals a small, strange ethereal-esque marking on his gloves. The origin doesn't seem to be anything well-known, unfortunately, but familiar to both the Mage and Argonian.

 

[Torok]

Adelius saw the all too familiar patron. He recognized him, recognized those gloves. A dark purple aura appeared in the Breton's hand. He was about ready to summon something.

 

[Chef Umaril]

Shallow Waters nods his head "no" as if saying to wait for the right moment. Being a mercenary whose days started as a mere hunter have taught him how to size up his targets, and know when the prey is most vulnerable.

 

[Torok]

The conjuration magic disappeared, Adelius continued to watch the strange man.

 

[Chef Umaril]

The man with strange gloves continues walking around the bar, getting drunk (or what it would appear to be) when he stumbles over toward Adelius. He leans over his shoulder and slurs something you can't quite understand. "Yoush go-na dish furr nigh 's ver," he says.

 

[Torok]

Adelius looks repulsed by the drunkard getting close to him and leans away from him. "Pardon me?" He asks, trying to understand what he said.

 

[Chef Umaril]

The man repeats the phrase once again, in the same slurred speech pattern before suddenly sobering up at the drop of a hat, saying "you and your friend will die before the night is over." He turns and proceeds to walk out the tavern stumbling once again as if he was drunk, trying to shout something at another patron. Like a shadow, Shallow Waters is now behind one of the pillars next to the door, watching both Adelius and the man who threatened him.

 

[Torok]

Adelius panics and gets up. He summons a flame atronach and casts stone flesh on himself. He gets a large fireball ready in both hands, aiming it at the patron.

 

[Chef Umaril]

The man turns in surprise at the sudden hostility from Adelius; he draws a dagger he had hidden beneath his coat and attempts to attack. The flame atronach attacks first, hurling a pair of fire bolts, both striking an arm and leg. With that, the man recoils in pain from the burns, leaving him wide open for another attack.

 

[Torok]

Adelius releases a fireball at the man's torso.

 

[Chef Umaril]

The fireball strikes its target, hurling the man violently to the ground. He doesn't attempt to stand, breathing heavily as the other patrons of the bar begin to panic. Shallow Waters steps out from his hiding spot and lifts the man by his collar. "Why are your people trying to kill us!?" He shouts. The man's only answe is an exhasperated laugh, followed by, "just following orders..." He then takes one final gasp before breathing his last.

 

[Torok]

Adelius' blood was pumping, adrenaline coursing through his veins, he was frantically looking for anymore danger.

 

[Chef Umaril]

Moments later, a pair of guards burst into the tavern, attempting to arrest Adelius for murder. Their swords drawn and flashing in the dim bonfire light of the tavern hall. "You have committed crimes against Skyrim and her people, what say you?" The guard demanded, his thick accent only adding to the intimidation factor.

 

[Torok]

"He threatened to kill us, I'm sorry, I panicked." Adelius said. The fire in his hands disappeared.

 

[Chef Umaril]

Shallow Waters steps in from behind the guards, next to Adelius. "It's true, the man drew a dagger and moved to try attacking the Mage, it was an act of self-defense," he explains. The guards look to one another momentarily, then sheathe their weapons.

"All right, I'm going to let you off with a warning this time, Mage, but I don't want to hear about this happening again," the larger of the guards says, "we don't like your kind around here, especially if you're trying to start trouble."

 

[Torok]

Adelius nodded. "Of course, sir."

 

[Chef Umaril]

The guards walk out of the bar, and Shallow Waters rests a hand on Adelius' shoulder. "You did good," he says, "but I do believe we'll need to leave soon. How soon, I'm unsure of, but soon."

 

[Torok]

"Where will we go?" Adelius asked, still shaken up.

 

[Chef Umaril]

"We will find somewhere," Shallow Waters answered, "there are no doubt some hunter cabins in the area, we could see about staying with them for a few days. At least until we gather more allies, or this mess is cleared up. We will at least stay the night, unless it gets to be too much for us."
