Hubris follows victory, lawlessness follows reform, riots follow peace. We seem destined to repeatedly poison, and then heal, ourselves.

It is said that Prometheus took pity upon man and offered him an escape from struggle: offering a present that would, inevitably, only further mankind's annihilation. He granted observers the spark of inspiration and manipulation so that they might mold their surroundings and never defile nature; to philosophers, He created the endless flames beyond reach so that the heavenly bodies might never be forgotten; to nobles, He admitted the burden that all templars must bear: the strength to end all fires, in case a blight were to arise seeking life and leaving death in its wake.

It is also said that, in ancient times, men crossed paths with holy magics that enhanced their natural abilities. They were shards from heaven, giving light to abilities never possessed by a mortal. We buried these heavenly secrets, for despite their virtues, they were prophesied by new cultures to bring about our destruction. Royals kept them in small safes and buried them in gardens. Greed influenced one noble to keep one of these boxes. Through time, it made its way to an unidentified time and person who, shortly after receiving it, disappeared. In time, we forgot the the secret magics, which slipped out of our history books and into legend.

Last year, unusual cases began to erupt in the genes of random humans worldwide. Scientists were baffled and struggled to understand these superhumans at a genetic level, to discover what made them tick. Governments tore at the roots, struggling to cooperate with other governments to properly document what was happening. A man named Joshua Brown self-combusted, ending hundreds of lives and leveling a six-story mall in Washington D.C.

The governor stepped forward and announced that the governments had created a temporary alliance known as the International Anomaly Coalition. The superhumans, gaining in population as affected individuals reached maturity, came to be known as Anomalies. The Coalition, naturally on edge from the Brown case, boasts teams that are capable of apprehending Anomalies for study or, should the action be necessary, imprisonment. Anomalies are considered dangerous and, in some extreme cases, terrorists. The superhumans have begun to revolt and openly accept their abilities, whilst some keep them secret from the rest of the world.

Before coming to the Skyrim Forums, I spent most of my time participating in superhuman roleplays. EpicVakarian's decision to reboot The Channels has influenced me to create this thread. The website that I used to roleplay at no longer has a superhuman forum, so posting here is my only option.

    Rules:
Keep irreverent conversations and comments out of OOC. That's what PM conversations are for.
This is an 18+ roleplay thread, so be aware that there may be violence, mature language, and light adult themes.
No godmoding. Let the characters drive the plot. Fight fair in combat/be willing to be beaten once in a while.
Before you can join the roleplay, I will examine your character profile and alert you via PM conversation if it is or isn't acceptable. Do not take offense if I find something unacceptable; like you, I want your character to live up to his or her full potential, and I am not afraid to speak up about things that keep him or her from that goal.
I recommend using a white dialogue color, as I do. It stands out but does not hurt the eyes.
The CC format is a basic guideline, so please alter it to your liking if need be.
Less of a rule but more of a note for us all: the RP will start on June 5th 2015.

    Character profile guide:
    • IMAGE -
You are not required to include an image. Please avoid using anime images.
    • NAME - When asked for a name, give the characters full name (given, middle, surname). Do not include aliases unless they actually apply be used by other characters.
    • AGE - Any age is acceptable, though I recommend sifting through the list of accepted characters to avoid repeating common age groups.
    • GENDER - If the character does not identify as male or female, then include the character's current physical gender and gender identity.
    • RACE - Any race is acceptable, regardless of the number of common races. Just keep in mind that all characters must eventually meet.
    • ID - A unique four-digit ID number is required for every character in the case of imprisonment or similar scenarios.
    • POWERS - Non-mutated characters and/or IAC members are acceptable. If applicable, list up to three related anomalies/abilities and give a description of what your character can currently do with it. List vertically by copying and pasting the provided bullet for each anomaly/ability. To avoid Mary Sues and cliche powers, each anomaly/ability must be unique and include weaknesses. Explore the Superpower Wiki for inspiration.
    • APPEARANCE - Required even if you have an image for the character. Include appearance details like height, physical build, skin/iris/hair color, facial hair, distinguishing marks, tattoos, etc.
    • PERSONALITY - The personality section is optional. You may describe how your character acts and interacts here.
    • HISTORY - How were they raised? How did they get to where they are? This section should keep to the important facts, so it should not be excessively lengthy or detailed. Do not include details that do not further the story or significantly affect the character or roleplay.
    • WRITING SAMPLE - Include a short snippet of your original creative writing in the writing sample field. This is not required for your 2nd+ character.

FULL NAME, AGE IN YEARS, DATE OF BIRTH, GENDER, RACE: Sylvia Jane Morsten is an 11 year-old female American with traces of English, Italian, and Jewish lineage. She was born on January 19th 1997 in Portspouth VA.
    ID NUMBER: 2697
    ANOMALY:
All living beings possess gamakinetic energy, also known as life force. Sylvia's gamakinetic energy manifests outside of her body as an additional layer of protection over her skin. The anomaly is entirely defensive in nature and acts as a natural passive psychic shield.
This energy can be expanded into a local field or aura, or released as an omnidirectional burst of low-level psychic energy that can temporarily stun nearby entities. When in contact with pure gamakinetic energy, Sylvia may be able to discover other applications of her anomaly.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: At over 4'7", Sylvia is at the average height for a child her age. She has slightly curly shoulder-length dark brown hair with bangs across her forehead. Her hooded dark brown eyes have a curved squint when she smiles. She has a fair complexion, laugh lines, dimples, and freckles across her nose and cheeks that show up in the sunlight. Sylvia's cheekbones are high-set and narrow, and she has a stout pointed chin on a square-shaped face. Her nose is long, straight, and slightly protruding from her face, with a thin tip. She has a pear-shaped body with narrow shoulders and wide hips. She has double-jointed elbows and is significantly thin and flexible.
PERSONALITY: Although brave, Sylvia's low self-confidence often has her wondering if she's all talk. She is selfless, ultimately fixed in the well-being of others. She is withdrawn and prefers to spend her time alone; despite this introversion, she enjoys being around others. Sylvia prefers to do things her way even if it means admitting being wrong. She is a spirited leader, often suggesting that there is more to a situation than meets the eye. She claims to have no sense of humor. She is observative, analytical, and compassionate.
HISTORY: Sylvia was born in a naval hospital to a post-navy father and a mother escaping a history of home abuse. She lived in Portsmouth VA for a year. Camden ME is the only home she has ever known, and she is bored of it. Since first grade, she had been exceptionally gifted in the literary arts. She is a strong and meticulous student. She learned of her anomaly three years ago (third grade) and has shared it with her parents in detail and has spent most of her leisure time researching it and trying to learn more about it on her own. When the existence of anomalies was announced, she considered if joining the IAC would help her understand her power. She is currently enrolled in sixth grade and will travel with her parents to D.C. for the IAC memorial event.
WRITING SAMPLE: The Suthay had never seen the plain gate from the other side. She had seen it from outside with its plain oak panels and rusted iron hinges. She had stood before its unimpressive worksmanship, guards standing on either side like gargoyles with ugly glares and angular faces. As a Khajiit, she could only see the plain gate from this plain view, and she was certain that it must be just as plain on the other side. And although she was as unique a Khajiit can be, no Khajiit could see what the citizens saw without explicit permission.

    Name: Mason Avery Vaughan

    Gender: Male, cisgendered.

Race: Human, with predominantly Irish and German heritage.

Age and Date of Birth: July 29, 1994. Approximately 21 years of age.

Place of Birth: Landstuhl, Germany; later moved to Dover, Delaware.

    ID: 3195

Powers: Mason’s anomaly is best described as a form of the practice of hemomancy – that is, the ability to manipulate blood flow and properties of human blood at will. It bears the following perks:

    · Mason is able to sense the flow of human blood by closing his eyes and focusing on a nearby target for a couple of seconds. This reflex is extrasensory, and not at all auditory; he cannot hear blood flow, only sense it.

    · After successfully “locking on” to a target’s bloodstream, Mason is then able to control the target’s circulation via chemical resonation. He can halt blood flow, cause the blood to boil or freeze, or create clots in the target’s vessels.

    · Alternatively, he can also treat wounds this way. By redirecting blood, he is able to heal his own injuries (and those of others) much more quickly.

However, his powers also contain disadvantages:

    · He cannot see while manipulating a target since his eyes must remain shut.

    · He cannot manipulate animal blood, only human blood. He is actively trying to rectify this.

    · Extended usage of his anomaly fatigues him, and he requires occasional rest.

Appearance: Mason is of a fairly average height and stature (5’10”, approximately 150 pounds), though some would describe his frame as lean. His dark brown hair is often slicked back, and part of it is buzzed short on both sides; not out of place among typical haircuts for modern young men. His brown eyes often showcase an intense gaze that implies an heir of caring and loyalty. His nose is pointed and his chin protrudes slightly from the bottom of his face. He is able to sport facial hair, though it takes a while for him to grow it, so he generally remains clean-shaven or stubbly at the most.

Ailments/Health: Mason is in good physical health. He does not smoke and he only drinks occasionally. However, he does suffer from clinical depression and ADHD, though he manages this well by himself. He greatly dislikes the heat and his pale complexion is prone to sunburns.

Personality: Those who know Mason well or knew him at some point in their lives often portray him as an introspective yet caring individual. He dislikes people as a whole, but is fascinated by the individual and is not opposed to forming close bonds. He is intelligent, quick-witted, occasionally sarcastic, and possesses a great capacity for loyalty and friendship. When alone, he is generally lost in deep thought, and sometimes becomes irritable when disturbed due to an innate reflex. He possesses a seldom-seen temper as well; it takes a lot to get him riled up, but when he does, he becomes ruthless and unreasonable. However, he is apologetic; Mason is his own worst critic, and he judges his behavior constantly. His dislike for conflict reflects this, and his anger is more often than not tethered and isolated. In summary, he is intelligent, witty, caring, and eager to help those he becomes close to. He is also a self-professed hopeless romantic.

Education: Four-year undergraduate university (ongoing). He is majoring in biochemistry and minoring in psychology, with eventual hopes of being admitted to medical school.

    Occupation: Student, later medical student

History: Mason was born on an air force base to American parents in Landstuhl, Germany; his father served in the armed forces. At the age of three, his family was relocated to another base in Dover, Delaware. Though he was not a typical military brat in the traditional sense (he never moved again, and he was not treated with stern discipline at home), his upbringing sowed the seeds for his personal character. Throughout his childhood, Mason’s father took him to visit the base he was stationed at frequently. While there, Mason often glimpsed soldiers bound in casts and crutches, and wondered if he could assist people like them someday. This spurred his interest in medicine.

Mason bore no knowledge of his anomaly until he was fourteen years of age, when he closed his eyes one evening and noticed that he could sense his own radial (wrist) pulse without feeling it. Focusing more, he realized that he could slow it down or speed it up at will. His powers evolved rapidly since then through diligent silent practice. To this day, he has not told a single soul about his anomaly, even after their existence was made public.

He currently studies at a fairly prestigious university in Washington, D.C., where he routinely makes the Dean’s List. His other hobbies include reading, writing, playing guitar, playing video games, looking at old medical records and lab reports, traveling, watching movies, and hiking.

    Writing Sample: Thunk.

The deer cried out in panic as the arrow quickly burrowed into its left flank. Orvar’s aim was off by a bit; if the beast hadn’t jolted in place a split-second before the hungry Nord let the projectile slip, it would have instead found the heart, the original intended target. Cursing silently, Orvar remained in a squatted position, determined not to let his prey get away even though it was already scampering off as a direct result of pain and confusion.

In its wounded state, however, the deer was experiencing difficulty. Its hooves met the ground with ease, but the steps were labored and uneven, and the animal’s respiration rate had nearly doubled. Orvar seized the opportunity and withdrew another steel arrow from his quiver. He took aim at one of the mobile hind legs and inhaled sharply.

    Thunk.

Orvar’s meal cried out as its knees buckled and gave way in unison. It crumpled to the muddy ground in a heap, paralyzed and helpless. Satisfied, Orvar withdrew one of his short axes and approached the fallen deer.

    FULL NAME

AGE IN YEARS, DATE OF BIRTH, PLACE OF BIRTH
25, born September 8th in 1989, in Toftlun, Denmark

    GENDER, RACE
    Male with dominant Irish-American roots

    RESIDENCE
An apartment complex in Madison, Wisconsin.

    CURRENT OCCUPATION
Currently employed as a clerk at Hilldale Shopping Center.
Also enrolled at the College of Engineering, completing his final semester for a bachelor's degree in Architecture.
He's aspiring to become an Architect practitioner at the Destree Design Architects firm.

    ANOMALY
(I apologize in advance for the word-wall in this section as well as the others. I kinda got carried away, but I like it nonetheless. Lemme know what needs changing, or if you need additional information.)

Henry, to be blunt, has the ability to arrange the particles in his body in order to phase through and, in some experiments, remain in certain stable solid/liquefied matter for extended periods of time; he's discovered he can also travel. He can also encase himself in a second skin of that matter for a certain amount of time and even travel through the matter in multiple directions.

    • However, this heavily depends on the material and causes Henry a great strain. Mediums such as water or glass are very difficult for him to travel through and any medium with electrical wiring or outlets are even more so difficult to navigate, being he's developed a sensitivity to them.

    • By that same coin, he can also sense these electrical currents to map out rooms in buildings, and even their plugged-in counterparts. While passing through or interacting with these currents undoubtedly causes him immense pain, and depletes him of strength, it also disrupts the flow of electricity. While prolonged interaction is fatal, the threat is only present while phasing.

    • Mediums with hollow spaces are also a painful and complicated matter, and if the medium was to be destroyed or its particles scatter, it would literally kill Henry.

    • Although consistent solid/liquids are smoother to traverse, any materials stacked or bound together can be phased through and adapted to. Additionally, he can also collapse certain areas depending on the density and material.

    • Materials that he can pass through include: Brick, stone, plaster, wood, sheetrock, ceramic, glass, silver, copper, lead, steel, rubber, cotton, earth (dirt/mud/soil), hard plastic, cardboard, and cement.

    • Alternatively, there's another list of materials he absolutely cant phase through, or in some cases, cause him an uncomfortable pain even while not attempting to phase. This includes: Iron, wool, titanium, brass, diamond, sand, aluminum foil.

    PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
Weighing in at two-hundred sixty-five pounds and sporting a slim mustache/ patchy stubble combo, Henry stands at five-foot nine inches and maintains a lean loose demeanor. Pale-skinned with contrasting neck-length hickory-brown hair, his physique is nimble and his reflexes follow suit. Although lacking in terms of muscle, Henry makes visits to the gym when he has the time and is currently trying a juice cleanse (which he now greatly regrets).

He usually keeps his hair combed back, occasionally tied back in a ponytail, but it always some how gets ruffled. Yielding cloud-grey eyes that paralyze (not literally) and an inherited strong jawline, Henry has overall good health and doesn't suffer from any medical conditions or registered diseases, aside from asthma for which he has a prescribed inhaler (which he only needs in case of emergency).

    PERSONALITY
Deep down, Henry is an honest and fun-loving person who welcomes new opportunities yet is hesitant himself in taking them, due to self-doubt and fear of judgment. While he can be a loyal friend who offers advice from the heart, he often has his own personal problems he was no idea how to solve. He's not the spectacle of the social spectrum, but he's conquered his anti-social condition and that's all he can ask for.

Though fair and considerate, Henry rarely assumes the role of leader unless called upon or forced, despite his confident and charismatic nature. His love life isn't too glamorous either, taking a turn for one night stands and discreet affairs, due to complications with his last girlfriend. Once engaging, however, Henry is consistent and jealous of his "partner" and will often break it off once he's had his fill or if the partner finds another play-toy.

He's not all that bad though, and more than likely, he'll hide his inner problems from even his closest friends, especially strangers, opting to subtly shut them out if they encroach on the subject.

If caught in a conflict or an argument, Henry often considers the other person's side, and occasionally lets them win, but ultimately tries reason before fist, even if his Irish heritage disagrees with him. If he is forced to fight, however, Henry won't relent until he's sure the other person(s) won't be getting back up, often using a hateful memory to fuel himself. When he does get angry, accident or no, he's reserved enough to simply leave and take some alone time, unless the situation/person promotes otherwise.

All in all, Henry is a person who doesn't pass judgment idly and only asks that you be yourself and refrain from lying to him or about him. He's rather bitter to a person that starts rumors about him or his family/friends that simply aren't true. He's often found to be rather stubborn on certain subjects and protective of those whom he considers his friends, especially his mother and little sister, passionately so but not obsessively.

Once opted to be the leader of something, he uses his better judgment and witty comebacks to the best of his ability, taking concern and consideration for his peers and their opinions. He knows when to keep his distance and give his friends/family alone time, or alternatively he can comfort them with the same soothing tone his own father had once used.

    HOBBIES, DIS-/LIKES
Writing, cooking, reading (online mostly), playing video/pc games, sleeping when he can, going for short walks through his neighborhood, visiting/ hanging out with his friends, exercising (at home mostly).
Racists, contradictions that make no sense, needless hate/violence, losing those he loves, failing, arrogance, hot beer, falling asleep after making plans, getting bailed on, senseless arguments.
Rain, books, a cold drink, a good laugh, falling asleep on the weekend, (secretly) watching cartoons with his sister, hot showers, grape juice, fresh laundry, air fresheners, warm cinnamon rolls, New Zealand, tatertot casserole.

    HISTORY
Born in Toftlun, Denmark with an absent father and a mother who worked overtime as an account manager for Nordea bank. His father, known then as a struggling business owner, was in and out of Henry's life, the patterns growing more and more irregular after they'd fled Ireland. Henry moved several times: Denmark to Norway, Norway to Sweden, Sweden to UK, UK to Nebraska. His mother overworked herself often, juggling a newborn sister and two jobs, leaving Henry to care for said newborn and hold off college for three years.

When he was sixteen, he took a bath at night before his seven-thirty bedtime, as he usually did, but fell asleep and woke in mid-air, falling from his living room ceiling on to the couch. Terrified and not wanting to add more stress to his mother, he kept quiet about the incident and has been experimenting with it little by little ever since. He thought it was cool, having that ability, it reminded him of the superheroes from his comic books. He even bought a vintage stretchy costume. Then anomalies, super humans, were discovered and made a public spectacle when Henry was twenty four.

That same year, Henry's father appeared again, begging his son to come with him out of the country, to China. His father wasn't a man to beg, if anything, he'd fight to have his way, which ever way that was. He realized his father was trying to protect him, but that meant him leaving his family, on the run again with a man he barely knew. He wouldn't have that. Henry declined aggressively, saying he'd never leave his mother and sister behind, caught in a haze storm of his inner feelings. A fight. His father came at his mother, hurting her. Henry accidently used his ability and wounded his father, sending him through the wall of their house and hurling into a nearby river. He never saw him again. They moved the same day, to Wisconsin.

Henry now works as a part-time clerk at Hilldale Shopping, enrolled at the College of Engineering, and lives in an apartment complex between the two. He has seven friends he hangs out with every few weekends or so, the pattern is patchy, but he spends as much time helping his mom out as he can. He heard, from somewhere, there'd be an IAC memorial event in Washington D.C.. He doesn't plan on going.

    WRITING SAMPLE
Baroth couldn't help but chuckle at the kinsman's suggestion, though he did key the thought for a moment. He realized he'd never told anyone his story. Not one person he'd crossed. Then he remembered why.

They'd think he was plum out insane or just needy.

'Immortal? Ha! The only thing 'round here that has eternal life is the dirt under a giant's toenails.'

Yea, he'd get an earful on that farce. Baroth had come to terms with his past, and he had no intentions of rehashing it. Even with good friends. Chorrol nearly burnt him at the stake, last time he tried revealing his 'condition'. The words still rang in his head, how the crowd titled him. Labeled him in rage and fear.

    Nightspawn. Demon. Monster.
