Getting to Level 50 and beyond. Is it Worth It?

Thanks everyone! Good answers. I suspected it's pointless. I too noticed the crawling progress at levels 48-49. I finally made it to 50, but that's after going to my Alchemy sachel, pulling all the stuff out, and just making tons of potions. And then I went around with a bow and shot enemies...

    Pure Mage Guide

crimsonblade2k, I'm curious, did you go that route while doing missions and combat. I mean, was it a path that you would learn as you combat, or did you have to go into hiding and just make a bunch of daggers, enchant and make potions before even stepping out into the field. And then it would...

    You know you're addicted when...

When you refer to criminals as "bandits" in your everyday speech. I actually did this today. I can't remember the exact circumstance, but I said something to the effect, "it's not like they are a loose collection of bandits". I said this to my wife, who, of course, had a slightly puzzled look...

Building a Mage. What do y'all do?

Once you have the impact perk, and master destruction, Thunderbolt is my favorite because it doesn't harm your conjured Dremora Lord like Fireball and can do a massive amount of damage when dual-wielded. The effects are much better than the Icy Spear too. And it's instantaneous too. Sometime you...

Getting to Level 50 and beyond. Is it Worth It?

I'm a Mage character and pretty much finished nearly every quest and side-quest, but still want to get a few remaining perks and level my character. But man is it hard when my most used skills are already mastered. So I've started trying to level-up my Archery, One-Handed, Alchemy, and Smithing...

    Are Mages Fun?

With Master Perk (-50%) + Archmage Robes (-15%) + Vokun Mask (-20%) you have an 85% reduction in magika cost. I have nearly 700 magika. So it's usually not an issue for me to dual-cast dragon-hide.

Funny aside, illusion was helpful at the end of one of the quests. The guy at the end was supposed to be friendly to me, but I guess I must have killed one of his family or friends because he started attacking me. I dual-cast a calm spell on him and he started congratulating me for finishing the...

    Pure Mage Guide

I don't need armor or enchanting. I had only the first enchanting perk until I was level 46. The only reason I spent a my 6 saved perks in enchanting is because I didn't go the illusion route and I wanted to take advantage of dual skill enchanting (20% destruction / +50 Magika is pretty nice on...

    Are Mages Fun?

The mage is interesting because the strategy can change as you level and gain perks in different schools. Currently I can have a Thunderbolt in one hand, Greater-Ward in another, Dragon-Hide spell as armor, and go right up against someone slashing at me. My alteration, destruction, conjuration...

The surpise attacks are when I find myself running backwards, point my crosshairs at the ground right in front of me (while running backwards) and lay down a Dremora Lord in front of the enemy. This often stops them and gives me a chance to armor-up, etc.

Dual-Casting a Greater-Ward with Dragon-Hide on and you can stand in front of an Ancient Dragon blasting at you and take ZERO damage. The Ward doesn't break either. I'll have to check, but I've been doing this without the dual-perk in the restoration tree.

I agree, Highborn is amazing in difficult battles, like against an Ancient Dragon, or Dragon Priest, etc. You can have 600 magika and it will quickly regenerate in battles. Dual-Cast a Expert Destruction Spell, wait a moment as your enemy is staggering, and your magika recuperates. Very effective.

    Your "wow" moments.

My wow moment was taking on Windhelm. I called called Odahviing the Dragon to help with this final battle. A blood Dragon happened to also join the battle. I was fighting Stormcloaks and Odahviing would ocassionally land and toast a bunch of Storkcloacks and other times I would look up to see...

    Destruction Mage tips

Oren74, FYI, this thread is for Destruction Mage Tips, Not "Why you shouldn't be a Destruction Mage". The guy wants to know how to succesfully be a destruction mage in Skyrim. There are many here that have succesfully done it, including me. I've also enjoyed the various spell strategies that...

    Destruction Mage tips

Oren74, you don't have to use mage-armor. You can use real armor. But I just prefer to have a lighter setup and I've preferred to use the Archmage robes. Dual-Casting and Stability Perk are helpful. Dragon-Hide will last 99 seconds. Sometimes it wears out in battle, but in most battles I can...

    Destruction Mage tips

I'll restate what I said in another thread since this progression worked well for me as a pure mage. I'm now level 48 high elf, with over 600 magika, only 230 health and less than 200 stamina. Pure mage has been a lot of fun for me. I started mainly relying on my follower Lydia to do the melee...

The most fun class you've played?

Clarification: With a ring and an amulet each having +50 magika / 20% less for desctruction spell, I can now cast expert->master level destruction consistently throughout most battles without need to drink magika potions, etc.

The most fun class you've played?

Pure mage has been a lot of fun for me. I started mainly relying on my follower Lydia to do the melee combat, distract the enemies and I would stand afar and cast fire or ice spells. Soon, I had the Impact perk and that really made things progress. I still needed a follower to destract the...
