    Have you tried reloading a save? I've had a couple instances where pillars or switches didn't work and was able to get them to respond by doing so.

    They'll only put on clothes you give them if they're an upgrade from the clothes they're wearing. Perhaps you can enchant the stuff you want them to wear before giving it to them.     You could always sacrifice her to Boethiah, that's what I did with the Solitude housecarl when she got mouthy about my character being in his own house.
