So, are the Vigilan of Stendarr skooma addicts or just complete idiots?

How do you backstab a Dragon?
On my new warrior build Ulv, he keeps running in to the strangest things when dealing with the Vigilan. Understand that he hates them all and is making quite a haul off their robes and hoods.

"When I find whoever did this..." Uhm... I'm right here. I just chopped your friends head off right in front of you, were you not paying attention (note that there was no bounty either).

What did I do? All the sudden, up the road come running a pack of Vigilan as hostiles ready to attack me. Sheesh guys, go find a vampire or something.

Kill all daedra worshippers & daedra? Uhm dudes, I'm standing here with either a Dremora or an antronach with me right now. Why don't you do something. Oh wait, now your dead. Apparently Dremora don't care for the Vigilan either.

So, you're Vampire Hunters, eh? Well, you just walked past 3 of them right over there - what, you didn't recognize them because their wearing the same robes as you? Didn't the bodies of your friends stripped clean right there in front of them give you a clue? Also, they called y'all "travelers" and the vampire you were just chasing when you ignored them is now standing next to you, apparently listening to our conversation and you're not doing anything.

Honestly guys, you hunt vampires and werewolves, yes? Well, I am now standing in front of you in full were form and there are two vampires trying to steal my lifeforce and hitting me with their puny maces. Don't you think you should intervene, or at least attack us like your supposed to rather than just standing there staring at that boulder?

Weird, weird, weird. Profitable, but weird.

Anyone else had similar experiences?

Yes. Yes and yes! I like them conceptually (and really wish they had been a faction we could join) but they do suffer from lousy AI or scripting or whatever. Very often I will have a Flame Atronach floating along next to me and they do nothing at all about my blasphemous ways.

It is another example of shallow work by Bethesda I suppose, much like how you can stroll around Windhelm as a Dunmer or Argonian and receive no grief at all.

I too thought Bethesda dropped the ball by not fleshing out more of a story for this faction. I've thought about going into there little hideout and turning into a werewolf just to see what would happen.

Absolutely nothing unless you attack them. I've done it. BTW, you won't be able to get back out again until you return to human form if you do (the door is too small). I changed right there in front of them and they practically yawned. I think on guy made some comment, but no-one attacked me at all. So guess what, I attacked them (you'd be surprised how many are apparently essential there until the vampires wipe them out - it would have been funny if they were all already dead when the vampires came - pointless trip by the vamps).

I too, was hoping with the Dawnguard DLC the "Vigilants" would become something more special. Alas, nope.

and yes... I stopped by their place before I downloaded Dawnguard. Transformed right in front of them... yeah, they freaked out, and attacked me... but it was the same as with anyone. No unique scripts or anything.

When I first came across the Vigil, I actually wanted to join them. They seemed cool, kind of like an Inquisition faction, my hopes were lost when I traveled all the way to their Hall to join.

I liked the idea of them, especially with Stendarr, cause the Chapel of Stendarr was located in my favorite city in Oblivion. I will make a Witchhunter character based on one of them.

I think they're quite interesting.

Im creating an undead hunter that uses restoration as a main force of offense (iv never really used restoration) and his 1st point of call will be to go visit the vigilants. Of course I will have to go before he is level 10 and the vampires destroy the place...

They attack me when im in my VL form... but so does everyone.... stupid mortals :p

My character has glowing eyes, he has a death hound following him
he wears armor with a signia of molag bal on it (you know the VL royal armor) dumb Vigilants can't even tell the diffrence between a vampire and a Mortal

I really wish Bethesda had done a better job with factions. Especially with adding new ones. Like you guys said, it would be so cool to join the Vigil, and I would try it for sure. Likewise, I wish you could join a necromancer cult or something, that's a great opportunity for a new faction. I wish that you could join a pack of werewolves if you were one too, and you could go to a special place where all of them would meet and you could have a werewolf like you follow as your companion.

this is why I'm now a fan of PC gaming again. All these issues may be taken care of with just one mod! :D

I don't even own a PC yet, let alone play skyrim on it, I'm on xBox360 and just as disappointed in the "man that is hands down one of the best games, EVER. But it still could be so much better!" feeling. The Vigilants are an excellent example of this.

imagine joining the group? Meeting Isran before he started the Dawnguard? Choosing to go with Isran out the bat, or stay a Vigilant. Then fighting for your life, or just coming home to see the place destroyed? It'd be a wicked mod!

Why is the alto wine always gone?
the vigil was basicly made into a meat sheild for the dawn guard, I mean the vampire come and raid the place and slaughter all vigils, I cant remember if i run into them after that or not, never noticed. Now the vigil should of been like fort dawnguard but alas it was left in smoldering ruins. I was disapointed with both factions, dawnguard and the vampire lord. the quest line just seemed to be to short and choppy at times, though I like the vampire radiant quests better than the dawn guard quests, but the rewards for the dawnguard quests were pretty nice, i mean A cross bow that shoots electric bolts how awsome ( or was it frost bolts).

yeah, I agree. Btw, I see Vigilants still ;)

it's just another example of how I think Bethesda tries too many things, and gets spread too thin. Things are so chopping and buggy sometimes. For example, one of my characters right now can't seem to get his next mission from Rikke (a known BUG) in the Rift. *sigh*

my werewolf character, when the Vigilants get in his way... is entertaining to say the least! :D

so why do they fight daedra anyway what are they hoping to acomplish? daedra are immortal and can not die so they were in a losing battle before the battle began at best they could banish them back to oblivion but thats just gonna piss them off and they will probably then come after them for doing it.

Obviously the intelligence of Stendarr does not extend to Daedra hunters.

Vigilants are pretty stupid. Oh, look, a Werepyre that clearly is beyond my level of skill, let me get my two mediocre friends and attack him!

That said, at least they make good sustenance for becoming a stronger Vampire and werebeast. Rip out their heart, drink their blood and then eat their heart via beast form.

Mods are awesome.
