M'aiq can be found all over Skyrim. He wonders. I've even seen him in the middle of the wilderness.

Agree. I see him all the time. On my first playthrough I even tried to kill him (I thought he was an enemy!). Fortunately he didn't hold it against me. He just told me he was tired and for me to go away.

Agree. I've encountered him in the most interesting places. Some I never would have suspected. He is, however, limited to the outdoors (never seen him in a city) and apparently he's not much of a fan of the caravaneers either.

He is very random, I'd not seen him for a long time and then, after crossing a bridge, there he was to the side of the road looking at the river. I had to get off my horse to hear what he had to say.

M'aiq is not kidding when he tells you that he "can travel very fast across the land". He makes better time than I do!
After chatting with him about calipers near Ivarstead, I jumped to The Reach to clear Lost Valley Redoubt (shudder) and ran into M'aiq again. This time rambling about having burnt sweetroll. The horror!

When I was playing my Khajit girl, I swore he was stalking her. Every single location she went to, there he was, mumbling away about one thing or another.
I even had him turn hostile once. I don't remember why, but it was over by the witch's cabin near Riverwood. He didn't attack or anything, he just was an insistent red dot for ages.
