So it's been quite some time since I've played Skyrim (or been on these forums for that matter), and I just can't seem too get back into it. I first played it on xbox, and sunk hundreds of hours into multiple characters, and I didn't get close to finish alot of the content. I mean, I did the main quest, all the guild quests, and the DLCs. Loved those. And I recently got it on PC, and well.............I cant play it. Ill hop on for a while, then get bored extremely quickly. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and if they have, what did they do (if anything) to make the game enjoyable again. Because, let's be honest, Skyrim is great, and I love it. I just can't seem to get in a groove with it.

I went through a stage like that. Id start a new character with the end goal in mind and really hook through levelling everything whilst fast travelling everywhere. Id very quickly get bored and not go back to that character.

Iv recently started a new character with a heavy Rp approach in mind... eg. no fast travel, has his own agenda (is an orc so he is visiting all the strongholds first), stops and drinks a lot at taverns, is nice but weary of others....etc.

The Rp, and the general slowing down of the game has really helped me get back into it. Also just trying things or visiting places Iv never been to. Iv played Skyrim a lot but there are places Iv still not discovered and yet I seem to always go back to the places I know. Its a big game so take it easy, try something new and approach it with a different mindset :)

ps. Its good to see an old face on the Forums, Iv seen older stuff that you have posted and hope you stick around :p

I guess it helps to "think outside the box." Do you still do the same things, go to the same places, etc?

I'm sure most of us have seen the early stages of the main quest often enough to gag at the thought of going through it again. With my current character I'm deliberately avoiding quests if at all possible. I did the Thieves' Guild just far enough to get a fence to sell my goods. I have yet to report back to Balgruuf to let him know we killed the dragon. He'd figure it out if Irileth would go back to Dragonsreach instead of waiting for me to do it.

I enjoy playing all the main archtypes: warrior, thief and mage. But some styles get played more than others. Maybe you should try a less used way to play or try out something completely different. I've never played as a necromancer.

And last but not least, you have the PC version. There's no doubt in my mind that a mod or 2 could spice up your experience. Back when I had Oblivion, I got the Oblivion Overhaul mod and it was a completely different game.

I hope you regain your interest in this awesome game. I'm back into it for the 3rd time with over 1000 hours under my belt and areas that I still haven't seen much.

I actually went through the exact same scenario, putting 100s of hours into the Xbox version before jumping to PC. Of course it was the first game I got, but I just found it so difficult to get back into.

The first thing I did was mod the game (Check the nexus, they have everything you could want) and I downloaded loads of game changing mods. Heck, my Skyrim barely looks like Skyrim anymore :p It's still the core game, but with some overhauls, (Skyre, highly recommended), a nice ENB (Realvision), and of course some roleplaying mods. (Realistic hunger and disease, Frostfall)

All of this dragged me right back into the beautiful world of Skyrim, and made roleplaying in the game so much fun. Discovering locations always feels special with appearance mods installed, as Skyrim looks beautiful and new once again :) Meanwhile, the rp mods and overhaul force you to adapt in order to play the game, which I also find enjoyable :)
